First scrimmage in Turkey. Francis looks ok. Kurt hitting from the left side. Oglivie and Beaven wearing libero jerseys.

Team in Prague. Kipp, Vicini, and Baird now with the team. Also Xu and Berty even though they recently graduated and will not be playing in August. Koko not in group picture, maybe sick?

Nebraska WVB is playing a match in their outdoor football stadium August 30. The school's regents are considering selling alcohol at the game.

"The two outdoor games slated to be played before 90,000-plus fans were announced in February by Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts, volleyball Coach John Cook and Gov. Jim Pillen."

I've heard about six names bandied around for 2024 and 2025 MB. I haven't heard of Duncan. I saw some video; I'll let others give an evaluation.

I’m not on highlight videos. But I can’t find anything about her. However I’m sure Hambly and staff know her well
That’s three commits two MBers
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 06-22-2023
There's almost nothing about Duncan on the Internet. No mention of USA volleyball program participation. No articles about her playing volleyball. I hope Hambly has found a hidden gem along the lines of Tami Alade.
The only thing I could find is her high school is a rather unique, small private school (29 seniors).
"Recognized as The Most Challenging Private High School in the U.S. (2015) by the Washington Post."

Maybe a walk on then. I don’t find much either. Still good to have another MBer

We need more than 3 MBs on the roster. If there isn't a top MB that can get in then taking a walk on makes a lot of sense. Good idea from the staff.

We had three MBers on the team last season and almost F4 within 2 points
Hmm when is the last time we had 4 MBers ?
Next season 2024 as of now 3 unless Smith takes a covid year
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball -

Well one 2025 MBer gone as Hazel Alevok just committed to the Big 10 and UCLA
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 06-23-2023
I agree having a walkon MB is definitely helpful. As I understand it Stanford has these three MBs for 2024.
1.)Francis: someone you want playing for your team in a Final Four match. However her track record on staying healthy has been a roller coaster at times.
2.) A freshman with potential to eventually be very good but probably won't be a dominant middle her freshman year.
3.) A player who probably is a walk-on with unknown skill set, at least to me.
Correct me if I'm wrong about this. If there was an elite 2024 MB committing to Stanford it would be public knowledge by now.
Bummer about 2025 MB Alevok. She had dozens of schools recruiting her so it was a long shot.
As far as I know these 2025 MBs are still not committed:
6'4" Kenna Cogill; I heard Nebraska might be her first choice but also interested in Stanford.
6'2" Taylor Harvey; Jordyn's little sister. I heard she wants to play both VB and BB. If so Stanford is out of the running. Taylor is my first choice for MB. Hopefully her sister enjoys freshman year with Stanford and says good things about Hambly and team.
Zoe Gillen-Malveaux; attends a top rated, private high school if that means anything?

I'm getting pumped up for the season to start. Who is the player sitting down in street clothes 16 seconds into the video?

The answer is 2021.
We currently have 7 pins for 3 spots and 3 MBs for 2 spots. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Particularly given Smith is probably the type of player you want as your fourth option.
I have seen Hazel play a lot and love her potential. But realistically she has been tweeting her offers. She camped at Texas and didn't tweet an offer. She camped at U$C and didn't tweet an offer. She tweeted a PSU offer but that isn't what it was 5 years ago. Other than that she tweet Miami and FSU. Seems to me that the top schools were taking a wait and see approach.
Taylor Harvey looks like a beast to me. And we should have pretty good insight into her process.....

We have 4 highly talented pins across the 2022 and 2023 classes that will overlap for 3 years (assuming that some of the 2023’s don’t redshirt). Could one of the 2023’s play in the middle for a few years?

Not a bad question. If say Francis or Vincini goes down would Blyashov or Kurt be better than Smith? I think the answer is maybe.
And the 7th pin is Line Anderson.
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 06-24-2023
Thanks for the video link mbdude. I did a google translate of the title: "Czech women's under-19 volleyball team - friendly match with Stranford University."
My biggest concern by far is no Kipp. I hope it's not an injury.
I like Hambly let Oglivie cover close to 50% of the court in serve receive.
Kurt was being tried out at OH. In most of the videos from Turkey I watched Kurt played OPP.
Vicini and Francis looked pretty good.
Rubin nearly served the opponent off the court in the second half of set 2. Her serves had a wicked curve. I don't think I could get a decent pass against her serving.
Players were constantly being rotated in and out so not really a match any long-term conclusions can be drawn from.
I heard Alevok's parents hired a professional videographer to film and edit some of her youtube VB highlight videos. I don't know if it's true or not but she did seem to be very active on social media. After her first season with UCLA I'm going to ask on one of her videos how she likes traveling from Westwood to Rutgers/Maryland/Wisconsin in late fall.
