I think the tourney team per UCLA website is:
M. Oyenwere (UCLA)
L. Hull
C. Brink
A. McDonald (ARIZ)
A. Goodman (OSU)
I’m assuming that Kiana got named Most Outstanding Player, but no confirmation.

I can confirm on Kiana. I switched to Pac-12 Network after ESPN2 turned off the coverage, just in time for her award and the team trophy.

Thx. That team makes sense, though McDonald was 8-24 with 5 turnovers I think, so eh on that.

Even if many of the fouls called were questionable, a team has to adjust to how the game is being called.
That being said, our margins of victory in this tourney were 39, 34, and 20. That's an average margin of victory of 31. Pretty impressive.
If you look at our last 6 games, we have won by an average of, again, 31 points. Consistent and solid.
This observation underscores how much we are capable of; we are winning by double digits, yet we can still easily identify issues where we can still improve. The team will get some much deserved time off before the NCAA tournament starts, but Tara and the staff will have a list of items they can work on before the first game.
And keep in mind we’re are talking about style points in a game where we dispatched the #9 team in the country by 20 points!

- Anna played superb. The D on Osborne, the charges, the loose balls and rebounds...tremendous.
- 24 points for Lexi on 17 shots. Fantastic.
- 13 boards for Haley, doing lots of the dirty work.
The only head scratcher for me is how we guarded Onyenwere. She got 30 against us! Haley just isn't quick enough and we also had Prechtel and Bilibi on her. I just don't get that. Why not Lexie and Lacie who can matchup with both size and speed? Is it the "she's gonna get hers anyway, so let's clamp down on everyone else" strategy? Unless it's a small guard who Anna can take, we struggle to stop the other team's best player.

my guess is that onyenwere is so beefy and strong that you need a big on her. the twins are quick but not as strong as haley. they often get knocked to the ground. i didn't see onyenwere run by haley too often. she hit a bunch of step back jumpers and turn around jumpers.

Wow, great win, even if I was about to throw a shoe at the TV when that big lead got cut down to 10 or 11. Agree with those above who suggested maybe trying Lacie or Lexie on Onyenwere. I'm not sure she is all that stoppable when she plays like she did today. Williams has been fantastic. Mid-way through the season I posted that she was just not that great because she had too many way off games compared to the "on" games. Well that is not tru now - she is a star lately, the best version of herself on court with great shooting, few TOs for how much she has the ball, great leadership, all that good stuff.
Great game from Lexie too. When things got close she was assertive on drives, made a few and got to the FT line. Hayley did not score that much but her rebounding was key, so good game for her to except a few TOs.
Agree with those who say that "intentional" foul on Brink was bogus. That was fairly ridiculous. I thought the refs did not have their best game. We did foul too much, no doubt, but there were also a few that given what they allowed UCLA to do should not have been called.
I'm glad Osborne was able to return. Did Wilson crowd her too much or did she kick her feet forward hoping to draw a foul call and ended up landing on Wilson???? Unfortunate in any case and I hope it does not limit her in the NCAAs.
Anyone know the all-tourney team?

Refs really screwed Brink tonight. And the 5th foul was a typical Missy special - calling a touch foul for no reason in a fairly physical game. Brink has “Tim Young” disease - getting called for being in the general vicinity.

Missy is probably envious because Cameron is everything that Missy is not. She is young, tall, thin, pretty, intelligent, talented, and nice.

Yeah, she is strong and that makes total sense. Still, I'm not a fan of ever letting another team's player go off on you without at least trying to adjust and make it harder on her. Lexie and Lacie are so tough and competitive and would have made her work for every bucket. She created space pretty easily against Haley. The Hulls also could have denied her the ball, or made her work much harder to get it.
It worked out tonight against UCLA because they just don't have enough firepower with the players other than Osborne and maybe Chou to score enough to beat us when we put up 70+. But that's not the case with other teams, especially UConn. If we happen to meet them in the finals, which I think is looking more and more probable, we can't let Bueckers go off on us or it puts the game in jeopardy (unlike tonight). It will be tough to score 70 against UConn, so if Bueckers gets 30 we will be in trouble. They have 4 other players who can score.
Certainly not taking anything away from the tourney championship or anyone's play. What an awesome run!

Maybe the strategy was to prevent Onyenwere from driving to the hoop. The midrange stepback isn't easy. Credit to her for hitting them, as well as some other even more difficult shots.

Yes you are exactly right. I thought pregame, Jones should got her because they are similar body types and O is strong, She would have put Hulls in foul trouble quickly and gone to the hoop often. Jones forced her to mainly make mid range jumpers and O is a good shooter and you can't defend her fall back jumper unless you double team. But O doing so much on offense also hurt ucla overall, took the other players out of the game.Tara was smart.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves just quite yet, I will worry about a potential national title game against UConn if it comes to that.
We will have to win 5 games before we get to that stage and there are teams out there who can beat us if we are not playing well. I loved Tara's response to a question in the post game presser about how confident she was about the team heading into the tournament and she said that she's a worrier and there are things that need to be worked on. I'm glad she's not resting on our laurels and she knows that we still have some things to clean up before the tournament.
The goal is near but it is also still far away at the same time. There's no longer room for error, one bad game like we had against UCLA or Colorado in the regular season, come tournament time and our season is done.
I am sure Tara will put us in the best position, we will just need to execute. I think we have the talent and the firepower to take it all the way, but we will have to play well, especially in the latter stages.
If we used Creme's bracket as an example, a potential Sweet 16 opponent Kentucky with Rhyne Howard who averages 21 points a game, would present us with the challenge of another superstar player we'll have to defend. Onyenwere just went off on us for 30 points. Louisville or Georgia, the runner ups in their respective conference tournaments would be our Elite 8 opponent. Even a second round match against Marquette (presumably the runner ups to UConn tomorrow) won't be a cakewalk. And those are games just to get to the Final Four.
Our victories and the way we won them this last week has given me confidence, but like Tara and 81alum, I am a worrier. :)

+1. Seeing complaints that we left Onyenwere open to take step back and step aside jumpers is funny because if you have to leave someone open, those are about as low efficiency shots at they come, and very little risk of giving a shooting foul on d. The fact that Onyenwere hit them is a testament to how great she has become. She's really developing her shooting guard repertoire for the pro game.
Have loved what we've seen from Ki. I predicted it back when they first announced the San Antonio site: she will be a woman on a mission for the rest of the season because the championship game will be in her hometown.
Missy was doing her Missy things. When she's a ref, she makes the game about the reffing. It's so predictable and frustrating, although I don't think it always cuts fully against us. (it mostly did this game, especially in the third and w/ that ludicrous intentional on brink).
What I love so much about this team versus those of the past half decade is the motion on offense - they are constantly cutting or looking to take it to the rim - even Jump now! So, so much less "pass around the perimeter and hope someone gets open." Our D has generally been stellar the past few years but the team offense is smoother than I can ever remember. The triangle was brutally effective, but this is much more fun to watch.
Hats off to our ladies - enjoy the next week off and then go hook 'em in Texas!

I think this may be correct.
I noticed during the game that when Jones was guarding Onyenwere and Onyenwere tried the mid range jumper--usually on a step back or spin move--Jones backed up half a step and never raised her arms. I kept thinking that was odd--everyone else defends by at least raising arms straight up, but Haley just watched O shoot. That had to be coaching and intentional. So long as O took the kind of shots we wanted her to take, we just let her have them. It was so odd to see the defender's arms not going up.

Hmm, that's an interesting thought. I was wondering why Haley's arms didn't go up too. I didn't connect it as being part of the strategy to encourage O to take the midrange instead of driving or doing something else more efficient.
