RE: WBB: The Race to the Summitt - petersalas - 12-08-2020

I’m glad they were able to reschedule this game since the UC Davis game was cancelled.

Why did they cancel their original games and then reschedule Stanford into the 15th slot?  Was it a travel issue for the 15th (so it changed from flying to Utah to hosting at home?)  Or was their opponent having Covid issues?

That info is at the pacifictigers.com link that I included below the tweet. Quoting here:
Quote:The Pacific women's basketball team has officially canceled Sunday's game, slated as the season opener on Dec. 13 at 2:00 pm, has officially been canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test result with the San Jose State program. There are currently no plans for the contest to be rescheduled this season.

Additionally, the Tigers will also not be making their first road trip to Weber State on Tuesday, Dec. 15 due to current travel advisements and incongruent COVID testing protocols. There are currently no plans for the contest to be rescheduled this season as well.

Rescheduling their Nov. 29 contest, the Tigers will now face No. 1 Stanford in Stockton next Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 6:00 pm in the Alex G. Spanos Center.

8-hour bus ride for the Cardinal from UNLV to UOP?  That would be my guess.  Be nice if they could get a game in before that somewhere . . .

RE: WBB: The Race to the Summitt - BobK - 12-09-2020

CAl vs Stanford on tv Sunday teejers
Bus ride is from cal to stockton to someplace near by.

Just to elaborate.  This is from the PAC-12.com website:

Stanford takes on California in Women's Basketball. Tune in on Pac-12 Network or Pac-12 Bay Area at 7:00pm on December 13, 2020 or get tickets here. Live Stream on pac-12.com or on the Pac-12 Now app.

Are they really letting fans into watch?

RE: WBB: The Race to the Summitt - BobK - 12-09-2020

No fans. Canned release. However the next three Stanford league games all on the Pac 12 channel. I just set up recordings.

RE: WBB: The Race to the Summitt - petersalas - 12-09-2020

Time to put this Sling TV subscription to use! Looking to these games...

RE: WBB: The Race to the Summitt - WBB fan - 12-09-2020

If Stanford is playing Cal this weekend, I guess that means they are coming back to California. But how does that work? No need for a quarantine coming back from Nevada? The rules on this are unclear to me. I know they would have to if they were going back to Palo Alto, but not elsewhere in the state?

And if no need for quarantine so they can play Cal, where are they going to stay (and practice) after that. I assume they will not go back to Las Vegas between Cal and Pacific -- but what about after that? I certainly don't envy the WBB staff trying to stay on top of all this.

RE: WBB: The Race to the Summitt - petersalas - 12-09-2020

I believe it varies by county.. since sports are allowed in most other counties... crossing my fingers it doesn’t change.. they can play.. guessing team may just travel to away game locations for practice and games since the next 6 games are all away games... hopefully after those games they can return home and the ban is lifted...

Nice!  Man . . . the WBB team is traveling a lot through infected communities (stats unseen, I'd have to guess that Vegas and Stockton have higher prevalence than Palo Alto).
And talk about living out of your car/bus . . .
Maybe the Stanford women, after the UOP game, just hop on the 5 south and find a relatively quiet place . . . somewhere closer to LA.

RE: WBB: The Race to the Summitt - Phogge - 12-09-2020

I’d pick Harris Ranch. Steak and eggs for breakfast. Double cheeseburger, fries and two milkshakes for lunch. Gigantic rib eye, baked potato for dinner. Bloody Mary in the morning, two drafts at lunch and a Paso Robles red at dinner. Protein high.

Spike - Spike - 12-10-2020

Harris Ranch: great steak, and to remind you where you are, an ungodly smell of thousands of cattle penned into a small space. Nauseating.

RE: WBB: The Race to the Summitt - Papa John - 12-10-2020

Can't smell the stockyard from inside the Harris Ranch restaurant, Spike. Just put on a gas mask for the walk to the car/airplane. Unless you are talking about Harris Ranch Express BBQ down the street, where the seating is outdoors but I get used to the smell after a short while.

Phogge, you can get a double cheeseburger for lunch anywhere. Order the Tri-Tip sandwich next time.

RE: WBB: The Race to the Summitt - Mick - 12-10-2020

If you find yourself on the 101 instead of the 5, make sure you stop at the Firestone Grill in San Luis Obispo.  Superb tri-tip, ribs, etc.

Thanks for the tip on the tri-tip.  I will check it out the next time I'm driving down 101 instead of 5.  There is no needless, wordy "the" when heading South.  ;-)

Cheers,
Pete F.

If you go south from SLO about 20 miles, to Nipomo, there is a legendary steak house called "Jocko's."
