Damn, how about Iceland in the Euro Cup! Guess England took the Brexit thing literally.

The immediate fall out in England was the resignation of their coach. Guess who is currently the leading favorite of the bookies for his replacement? Hint: his first name is Jurgen.........
[/quote]
What?!?! But how can that be??? We all know Jurgen is some schlub who's an inferior coach to half the people on this board. Stunning that he'd even come up as a possible candidate to coach a country with as rich a soccer history as England.
For some reason, though, it sounds all too familiar...
Shaw is too stubborn. Shaw is too conservative. Meanwhile, Shaw is routinely atop the list of NFL teams looking for coaches. ::) ::) ::)

Being considered as England's next head coach is hardly a sterling achievement. The only real qualification is an ability to fail in a simultaneously stodgy and spectacular way.
(sorry Yvonne)
That being said, plenty of coaches aren't necessarily bad or good, just bad or good for a certain situation.

Right -- no one in the history of ever has accused England's governing body of being terribly savvy. (At soccer. At marketing, they're pretty darn good.)
Meanwhile, we have enough of a sample size to conclude David Shaw is, well, good at his job. It's a little tougher with respect to international soccer managers, who have a ton of confounding variables to deal with.

I really really really wish Italy had a shot at those guys.
Stupid moneygrubbing UEFA and their 24 team tournament.

And also penalty kicks to decide a knock-out match (Italy lost in PK's in the quarterfinal to Germany).
Still, the crazy tournament brought you some pretty fun runs: Iceland and Wales to the quarterfinals.

Little suprise that France, as host, made the final. They were automatically the seeded team in Group A.
Also, Iceland and Wales would have qualified from the prior, better Euro format. Portugal as a team that didn't win a single game in their group advanced, and won a terrible bracket to make the final. My thoughts echo Jonathan Wilson's -

Yo, BC
Donnez le Pays des Galles some proper props. They made the semis, played a game that they could have one (given a fewe breaks) and their fans were the most civilised of any of the teams who made it that far.

France has an incredible amount of talent -- home field advantage counts for a ton, of course, but Pogba is one of the ten or so best players in the world, and I could go on and on. I'd put them roughly even with Germany, to be honest, so it's no surprise they won.

Didn't mean to knock the French National team. Though making it to the semis ought to have been a given (then again, ask England how it feels about "favorable" draws), the team gets credit for executing, and for beating a very good German team. The FMNT is immensely talented. Pogba is great; Griezmann is a machine, and Lloris had an amazing game - any merely human performance would have let at least one if not two goals. But it'd say that they are succeeding despite Deschamps, not because of him.
The game was a lot closer than the 2-0 score indicated.Â

With another goal last night, Morris is in pretty solid company:

It's a stat with a few asterisks and caveats, but still nice.
