Perhaps I am just being an optimist, but for those recruits who show a serious interest but say they will visit in January, I assume they are waiting to A) get official admittance, and (B) attend the big get-together with all the commits just before NSD

I'll excerpt their Butler evaluation:

Hattis is a three-star, but with some very solid offers -- UCLA, Missouri, Arizona State.

Hattis is already 6'7" and still may be growing. He and Dreyer are true giants. The most exciting part is that both of them are athletic enough to stay low and move their feet instead of merely relying on their size. Neither of these guys received a 4-star rating, but both of them have big upside. My bet is that one of these two bets will pay off in a big way. It'll be a couple of years until we really know, but the potential is there already.
If the Card can land Schaffer, together with Jackson last year, we're looking at a duo of giants at DE as well. They both need to fill out a bit, but they have the frame to do it, if they put in the work.

Check out Hattis' skills at the opening. https://youtu.be/EIqdhnDto0Q  Starting at about the 50 sec. mark you'll see both Hattis and Farniok, another guy we hope we can get. But Hattis comes off looking the the best He looks almost skinny compared to some of the guys who were rushing, but he just had all the elements: balance, footwork, using his arms...and tenacity.  I hope his academics hold up in Montag's scrutiny.

2 items of note:
(1) This was published before Hattis' commitment and Hattis says that he really likes the quote about moving a man from point A to point B against his will. That is a Stanford football thing, no? If I remember correctly, then he tipped his hand a bit.
(2) Teton Saltes, a 3-star, 6'6" DE with offers from Oregon and Washington claims that he also has an offer from Stanford. (That offer has not been reported on any of the major sites and there are some other discrepancies in his claimed offers, so take it with a grain of salt. But if the offer is real, that's noteworthy.)

Hattis was IMO the best OT prospect left for Stanford to land, and I'm including guys who are ranked higher in that group. He's clearly a very good athlete with quick feet, balance, long arms, and quick hands, plus a big frame. Hard to want anything more in an OT, unless you are looking for guys to step in and play as True Frosh.

Has Stanford ever had a guy this highly rated as a football prospect submit an application?Â
To put a finer point on it, what's the highest rated applicant who was denied admission after submitting an application? It sure would be brutal for Stanford to deny admission to a 5 star recruit.Â

The 247 composite had Kyle Murphy as the #11 player in the country that year. I'm guessing that's the highest we've ever had, at least any time recently.

Back in 2012, 4* OLB Ifeadi Odinigbo appeared to have chosen NW because of admissions issues. Don't know if he actually filled out an application. Two years ago 4* WR Jordan Cunningham appeared to be an admission casualty after an application. After a promising start, he left Vandy for personal reasons and has transferred to Cincinnati. Last year 4* S Arrington Farrar, the first recruit to commit to the class and a Watkins Award finalist was an all but confirmed admissions casualty.

I remember Obindigo... I think he's done pretty well at NW. I think we will play against him unless he went to the NFL (he got a medical redshirt his freshman year after breaking a wrist in the first game of the season).

Don't forget Nifae Lealao, who was a highly ranked DE/DT in 2014 who didn't make it through admissions (and he was committed). But Odenigbo was the highest rated by 247 Composite who got dinged by admissions (though he wasn't committed).

I suppose, but he never led the Stanford team to a winning record. He refused to play for the NFL team that drafted him. He tried professional baseball, but never got past 'A' ball.

For those of us thinking Henry Hattis is under-rated at 3*, we have support from at least one recruiting analyst, Greg Biggins

Regarding Demetris Robinson, I'd love to think that it is just a matter of getting passed through admissions, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that he doesn't balk at the distance from family, possible separation from his twin sister (there was a report at one point that they wanted to go to school together, and maybe her grades are better than his and she would sail through admissions; or, maybe they have reconsidered that plan).Â
I still think there is a long way to go with him, particularly since he can basically choose his landing spot.
