For some reason I thought Gaffney threw that ball.

Newman's Jay Tyler - son of former #LSU QB - commits to 'dream school' in Stanford http://www.nola.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2015/01/newman_senior_jay_tyler_commit.html …

Have we done a WR pass recently? We've definitely done halfback passes a few times, I think with Gaffney throwing it.

Shaw said, at the same time he was discussing Andrew's spectacular one-handed reception, that Gaffney couldn't throw a football well.  See link below.

Good to see a quick commit from Jay Tyler, and his statement that he has been admitted to Stanford.  I do wonder what this means about the status of some of our other commits.  Maybe Newman is the replacement for Donnelly.  But it also leads me to believe we will end up accepting around 22-23 students, once all is said and done.

Re: Class of 2015 - OutsiderFan - 01-25-2015

In the interview on the main board, Shaw now says the class will be 18-20.  That's up from his 17-18 a few weeks ago, and after Farrar and Donnelly were denied admission.  Perhaps Shaw wants to under promise and over deliver WRT recruiting class size?

Re: Class of 2015 - BobK - 01-25-2015

With 21 admitted and 2-3 apps in or silent admits, less than 20 would be disappointing

Re: Class of 2015 - TrumpCard - 01-25-2015

FYI, there are reports on Scout and 247 about Reid's visit to USB.

Those reports are similar to what Terrence Alexander said on his visit. Not too concerned but I have my fingers crossed.

This is such good news!! Outside of Wilkins, I was really hoping we would land Jackson. He is Henry Anderson's twin in my opinion - 6'6" 250 lbs.

LSU apparently was after Jackson fairly hard: https://twitter.com/Sheadixon/status/541724141607727105

Very happy to get any player LSU wants. (Unless...he's a QB.)

Re: Class of 2015 - BostonCard - 01-25-2015

I had a feeling.  Stanford football dropped a big hint...

Love the pursuit instincts and quicks - Redrum - 01-25-2015

It's pretty hard to tell on the highlight reel what kind of blocking opposition he was up against.  Most of the plays made him look like superman.  But the pursuit speed and ability to make plays against QBs and backs on the move shows the basics are there.

Re: Class of 2015 - socalstanfan1 - 01-25-2015

Just curious everyone. Fill in the following chart:

Jackson --- Committed

Love --- ? (My opinion: Likely, given that he cancelled his OV to Tenn)

Buncom --- ? (Likely Commit.  His enthusiasm for Stanford Medicine is Unknown to Mankind)

Meeks --- ? (Really not sure, but went through the process and now admitted)

Reid --- ? (Has he received news from admissions?)

Fox --- ? (No idea really, but in the same boat as Meeks, through from the other side of the country so geography  may play a factor)

A clean sweep would give us 21 in the class, just about what Shaw mentioned as likely in his recent radio interview.  But, as has been speculated, maybe Shaw is just underselling so as not to get everyone's hopes up.  Or he has a feeling about a few of these guys going elsewhere, or Reagan Williams' level of interest in Harbaugh and UM.  Any insights? Anyone I left off the list?

Re: Class of 2015 - pcgoode - 01-25-2015

Jackson sounds like he will be a great fit. Here's a story on his commitment from a Knoxville paper. A couple of nice quotes:

"Me, mom and dad kind of talked," Jackson said. "We're all on the same page. We know this isn't a four-year decision, it's a lifetime decision. It will open up thousands of opportunities for me in whatever I decide to study. Obviously it's a top 5 academic school. The guys on campus are great. The coaches are really personable, and will help me progress with my football skills, along with in the classroom."

"There's nothing better than chasing someone down and hitting them."

My read is based on Twitter tea leaves and multiple articles:

Love -- commits. Accepted by admissions. He really enjoyed the OV weekend. Real threat was Tennessee and they are out. UNC is in shambles.

Buncom -- commits. Accepted by admissions. Everything about this young man screams Stanford.

Meeks -- commits. Accepted by admissions. Really admires Richard Sherman.

Fox -- commits. Accepted by admissions. Fox's cousin is freshman safety Brandon Simmons and really enjoyed the OV weekend.

Gabe Reid -- commits. Accepted by admissions.

Justin Reid -- This one is tricky because there isn't much out on his twitter. His brother, 49ers safety Eric Reid, wants him to go to Stanford so that is positive. If admissions accepts him which I think they will (ACT score 30), we will probably land him too.

Clean sweep hopefully :)

Re: Class of 2015 - BobK - 01-25-2015

Fox admitted a couple of weeks ago.  We could close big. I think you nailed it Prince

Re: Class of 2015 - socalstanfan1 - 01-25-2015

Ah, I knew I forgot someone...I should have said "Reids".

But the good news in terms of figuring out the roster is that Gabe Reid would head out on his two year mission, so we would have him stored away for the future (just as we are getting 4* prospect Sean Barton this year).  So I guess the overall number with a clean sweep would still be 21, with a bunch of excellent prospects adding late and another top prospect, Barton, stepping onto the practice field for the first time.  Really nice haul if this works out.
