Difficult question:

OK, good trivia question, curtesy of NFL Films.

Which current NFL head coach had more career rushing yards (in the NFL) than Bo Jackson?

Sensing a question "rooted" in Tree-related lore, and because he had a long NFL career as a QB - going out on a limb and guessing, Harbs?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Mick - 01-02-2026

Bo rushed for 2,782 yards. He never had a 1,000 yard season and only played four years. I don't think any of the other NFL coaches carried the ball in an NFL game.

It stumped the coaches who were interviewed for it… even Harbaugh’s brother!

It was a great question.

Here's a twist...which current NFL head coach had more receptions and receiving yardage than Bo Jackson?

Detroit Lion Coach Dan Campbell, long-time tight end in the NFL for the Giants, Cowboys and Lions. 91 catches, 934 yards in his career compared with Bo Jackson at 40 receptions, 352 yards.

1) Those are the Top 25 in lifetime NCAA FCS football victories (Stanford is #45). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_football_teams_by_wins
2) None of them are in the CFP semifinals.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Giants - 01-04-2026

The power of the portal - in the past, players would sign with a Blueblood and might never get a chance to show their stuff.  Now, a player can simply move on if they feel they are being overlooked.

The “Era of Share the Wealth” is upon us.  The rich can no longer hoard their spoils.  The middle class is rising up.

Quite frankly, I think the portal is the best thing to happen to college football.  It has leveled competition to the point where even Indiana (historically a terrible football program) can compete for a title.

After due consideration, I'd have to agree.

Only thirteen MLB players have done these three things in the same game:

1. Hit a home run.
2. Stolen a base.
3. Pitched a strikeout.

Only two of the thirteen were position players (the rest were pitchers), both the only two to achieve that feat in the last sixty years. One was Shohei Ohtani. One was a Giant.

Which Giant?

Bonus question: Of the eleven pitchers, two were Giants. Which two?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 01-07-2026

Bumgarner and Robinson the pitchers
The Giant position player I think this past season. But who?

Giants position player was Pablo Sandoval.

Giants pitchers were Christy Mathewson and Bill Walker. By coincidence, both pitchers led the league in ERA as well.

Two Stanford alum QBs are tied with the most seasons having at least one win as an NFL starter - who are they and how many seasons?

There were two seasons where four Stanford alum QBs had at least one win as a starter. What years and which four? (hint: it was the same four in both years)

83’ and 84’?
1. Plunkett
2. Elway
3.?
4.?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Leftcoast - 01-10-2026

Maybe Dils and Schonert? (Alongside Plunkett and Elway)

I thought about Benjamin but I believe he was a pure back-up at this point and Montana’s back-up wasn’t starting!

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 01-10-2026

Most seasons one win Brodie and Elway

You got it! This foursome won at least one start in 1983 and then again in 1986. Benjamin indeed was a back-up in 1983. Bonus question: Who was the other Stanford alum QB in 1986?

(01-10-2026, 06:56 AM)BobK Wrote:  Most seasons one win Brodie and Elway

On the nose! Each had 16 seasons with at least one win. But a wrinkle - Elway did it in 16 seasons, Brodie in 17 seasons. Bonus question - in which year did Brodie have at least one start but no wins? Easier bonus question - who was runner up?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 01-10-2026

runner up Jim Plunkett
Brodie was out maybe 1960??
