Irwin gets his 5th star from Rivals. Highest recruit we've gotten since the Peat / Murphy / Shittu days of yore?

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Trent-Irwin-129745

I know that modern technology has changed our perception of time, making things seem out of date when they are only a few years old.  But can the Murphy/Shittu year be "days of yore" when they are still on the team?  ;)

Yes!  Remember the bad old days of HD TV before 4K?  Ancient history.
[/quote]

LOL, well one of those three is already off to the NFL and other two are non-RS seniors. And while time is starting to move much faster for this dude in late 20s (my 6.5-years-younger than me sister graduates from the farm in June, which terrifies me because it seems as though Anthony Kennedy's terrible graduation speech was yesterday), 3 years is still a chunk of time :P.

Remarkably 3 of the 5 stars that we've ever landed were in the 2012 class. Trent Edwards and Trent Irwin (maybe we should just go after 5 start Trents) were/are the two others.

Re: Class of 2015 - TrumpCard - 01-19-2015

StanforFB twitter has a post indiciating that Shaw was in home tonight with Dylan Jackson. The coordinators were visiting Toohill and Chaffin.  It's going to be a grueling two weeks.  Time to close the deal.

Re: Class of 2015 - socalstanfan1 - 01-20-2015

I'm somehow very optimistic that we end up with a very good signing day.  Not quite 2012 quality which included two of the best OL in the country, as well as a to DL, but very good nonetheless.  Hopefully, after the angst of a slow-developing class, we end up with another class in the top 20 (maybe top 15?)

Re: Class of 2015 - StannyBoy - 01-20-2015

I'd say pretty good rather than very good. We needed one of Wilkins, Green, Donelly and struck out.

Re: Class of 2015 - Papa John - 01-20-2015

Ross Donelly has committed elsewhere?

There's a post titled "Bad News re: Ross Donnelly" from Andy Drukarev on the rivals forum.

Thanks, BC. So the assumption is that Donelly is an admissions casualty then.

Re: Class of 2015 - socalstanfan1 - 01-20-2015

Hulk, if you read this: you mentioned in a post on "who's visiting for the big weekend" that there was concern about one recruit. Can you tell us: was this the guy you had in mind? Or is there, potentially, yet another shoe to drop?

Re: Class of 2015 - BigEasyCard - 01-20-2015

Article on Justin Reid's signing decision:

His brother Eric wants him to play at a school 2,100 miles from home.

Re: Class of 2015 - TrumpCard - 01-20-2015

As in prior years, the geographic diversity of the recruits is impressive.  Five of the 14 current commits are from California, but the rest are spread around in IL, OH, SC, NC, FL, GA, UT, WA, and OR.  Only 2 of the 9 scholarship offerees who were on the most recent list live in California.  The rest are spread around in NC, LA, TX, GA, NJ, TN and UT.  Of the 2 walk on candidates we've heard about recently, one lives in California and the other in MO.

I bet the kids from far away places get additional comfort from being around other guys from their region or state who they might have known from football camps and statewide playoffs.  And I bet the process of matching current players with recruits for the "profro" visits is cool.

Re: Class of 2015 - BigEasyCard - 01-21-2015

Have been waiting all year for news of this offer to Jabiari "Jay" Tyler.  Though he won't play QB at Stanford, he broke Payton Manning's passing record at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans by throwing six TD's in one game.  He ran for three more that day.

Coincidentally, Jay's father and Terrence Alexander's father were high school teammates.

Re: Class of 2015 - Spiny_Norman - 01-21-2015

As BigEasyCard noted, Tyler had a storied high school career.  From this article I also learned that his father is Herb Tyler who played QB for LSU in the 90s - http://theadvocate.com/sports/10527209-32/a-few-minutes-with-

I hope that he chooses the Cardinal.  Sounds like the coaches envision him in a Kelsey Young-type role.  Maybe run the Wildcat too.

Re: Class of 2015 - Bruce Wang - 01-21-2015

We should add that Edelman to Amendola pass play to the playbook. Chryst to Tyler to Irwin/McCaffrey.

I hear you!  Like many, I cringe when I see a RB or Montgomery ready to take a direct snap.  But I might feel differently with someone like Tyler who would add a needed option to what has become a very predictable play.

A defense that forgets that Tyler excelled as a high school quarterback will pay for it on plays as you guys have described.

Does anyone know if Abercrumbia is still in play? Should we assume he is not given that he has not taken an official visit? Really need 3 DL...

Have we done a WR pass recently? We've definitely done halfback passes a few times, I think with Gaffney throwing it.

Here's a link to the New Orleans announcement of Jay Tyler's offer from Stanford:

The senior highlights video shows his versatility.  They don't show his character and commitment to academics, but he'll bring those to The Farm as well.
