There is no such thing as an admissions lock. All admissions to Stanford (and other schools) are conditional on the student completing satisfactorily his or her remaining high school coursework.
It's a perfectly feasible scenario that a high school commit doesn't perform well academically in the fall or spring semester of his senior year, and an offer of admissions is rescinded. In fact, for some students it's a harsh reality, including at the UC campus (Santa Barbara) at which I am employed.

Ranked by 247Sports as the nation's No. 8 safety, Reid is also considering Oklahoma and Notre Dame, however an offer from LSU could change everything for the Geismar (La.) Dutchtown standout.
...however the kid tweeted on December 5 that he had an offer in hand from LSU.Â
And on 247's page for him, LSU shows as having offered him:

So I'm not sure what's going on there. Am I to infer this kid is 49ers (and former LSU) safety Eric Reid's brother? If so, I could see the draw to Stanford.

Apparently what's all the rage these days are noncommitable offers. I'm guessing LSU have said they'll take him if they have space for him on national signing day, but they're still holding out for some more highly ranked recruits.

The flip side of getting bummed out about negative admission stories is when stuff like this happens:

How hard did @Ben_Edwards_ work to get accepted to #Stanford? He retook the SAT/ACT a combined 7 or 8 times.
I gotta say, while I'm certainly proud of our admissions standards and think we should make sure student athletes are taking rigorous coursework to prepare themselves for Stanford, I think having students retake the SAT/ACT multiple times is a waste of everyone's time. Getting a higher SAT score after a month of "test prep" does not mean you are any smarter or better informed.

He is. Presumably it makes the "distance" issue much less of a factor than it otherwise would be.
We may get a QB after all this year -
JohnR34231 - 01-16-2015
After all the screaming and yelling about not offering Josh Rosen and not getting a QB in this class, we may get one after all.
It's T.J. Green, the son of the former pro QB Trent. He will be on campus this weekend as part of the big visit. Interesting that he has gotten very little interest despite being the Gatorade POY from Missouri and throwing for nearly 3,000 yards in leading his HS to the finals of the state playoffs. I would have to guess this is due to his size as he is listed as 6'1" and 185 lbs.
I would assume he would come as a recruited walk on.

Justin Reid got a bump in rating on Scout. He's now a 4-star and in the top 300. The Stanford commits/targets rated 4-star on at least 2 of Rivals, Scout, ESPN, and 247 are: Irwin, Buncom, Love, Scarlett, Wilson, Edwards, Meeks, Barton, Reid, and Chaffin. That's almost half of the projected incoming freshmen. Not bad. Now Shaw just has to land all of them.Â

Which is, of course, contingent upon admissions accepting all of them.
Edit: I just noticed that Reagan Williams, through most of the recruiting cycle identified by th scouting services as a LB but by Stanford as a FB is now listed at Rivals as a FB (who was just offered by Harbaugh). It will be interesting to hear what Shaw has to say, once he is allowed to speak about recruits. Could he make the Toby Gerhart move from LB to big RB? I thought after seeing some film on Barton a couple of years ago that he might be a candidate for the switch.

He definitely doesn't have Toby's speed - looks a lot more like Marecic. Definitely a FB.

Yes, Reid will serve a two year mission.

OK, last month David Shaw said the class would be 17-18. Looking the the Publius admissions tracker, there are several more than this number in some combination of committed and admitted. Does this mean there is a possibility of a class of say 20-22 rather than the original projection of 17-18?Â

Yes.
[However, not sure it has crossed over to the realm of likely yet.]

Irwin gets his 5th star from Rivals. Highest recruit we've gotten since the Peat / Murphy / Shittu days of yore?

I know that modern technology has changed our perception of time, making things seem out of date when they are only a few years old. But can the Murphy/Shittu year be "days of yore" when they are still on the team? ;)
