Something isn't adding up. Tatis Jr. put out a statement owning up to the mistake, saying it wasn't intentional, etc. The Padres GM reaction was that the team expects him to show more maturity, demonstrating some real lack of trust between team and player. I thought the apology showed maturity, so I'm going to guess the Padres aren't quite buying his apology and they are tired of his selfish behavior after making such a gigantic commitment to him.

Since the Padres signed Tatis Jr. to a 14-year $340M contract extension, he hasn't lived up to it. I would have thought a contract like his would have prohibited him from doing something like ride a motorcycle. And it should have had a clause to void his contract if he got hurt and missed a certain amount of games as a result. So he breaks his wrist in offseason motorcycle accident, doesn't get surgery, it doesn't heal and he has to get it so late he must miss 115+ games of season. Then when on the verge of returning, he gets an 80 game PED suspension. I don't know if I buy the ringworm medication story given he was trying to get back to playing and probably trying to speed it along with something that turned out to be illegal.

When does the clock start ticking on the suspension given he isn't even cleared to play yet? He's going to miss at least 33 games in 2023.

LOL on the ringworm medicine.  OF, I think your speculation is correct.  Tatis was looking to get back in playing shape ASAP, and took a banned substance to help him recover.  Whether he took it knowingly or was willfully ignorant doesn’t matter much.

I hope he learns from his mistake because he is immensely talented.  But the Padres theory for going after Soto was that if they could nab a wild card, the combination of Soto plus a recovered Tatis Jr, plus their other pieces would make them dangerous in the playoffs.  Alas, they better hope next year is the year, or that they have another $400 million in the couch cushions to resign him.

Tight pants in the crotch made him alter his mechanics. Just like when Dizzy Dean was hit on the big toe in the All Star Game in D.C. Basically finished him as he came back too soon and altered his delivery.

Dodgers rotation:  Julio Urias, Ryan Pepiot, Tony Gonsolin, Andrew Heaney and Tyler Anderson. Yet, they just keep winning. 

Dustin May (aka Bozo) back soon.  Unsure on Kershaw.  Buehler loss hurts them in playoffs.  Could be vulnerable as that is an untested group beyond Urias and Kershaw.

Don’t look now, but the Giants are back over .500.  Crazily enough, ESPN gives the Giants a better than even chance of making the playoffs (I’m guessing because their remaining schedule is easy?)

I made a post a few weeks ago pointing out how Joey Bart seemed to have righted himself. Well a few weeks later, Bart is crushing it. After his 3 hit game last night, Bart is now slashing:  .233/.318/.409 with a .727 OPS in 2022. His OPS+ is now 103, so slightly better than league average.

In August, he's raking, with a .452/.469/.677 and 1.129 OPS.

It seems to me it's time to move Bart up the lineup so he can be a better run producer. A guy putting up these numbers needs to drive in more runs. He should b 4th or 5th in the lineup, IMO.

BC, I can’t believe that is correct. The number I’ve seen is 5%. They were over 50% prior to ASB.  Giants have, I believe, tougher schedule than Milwaukee, Phillies or Cardinals.  Unsure bout Pads.

ESPN is nuts. 

SOS for remainder of season (according to Tankathon). Pads (8th). Giants (9th) Brewers (14th). Phillies (26th). Cardinals (29)

Giants play Pads 6 more times and have a 3 game series at home vs Phillies.  They will need to go at least 4-2 vs Pads and 2-1 vs Phillies.  They also play a 1 game “series” in Milwaukee after a tough 9 game stretch - 3 game series vs Pads and Phils at home followed by 3 at Dodgers.

Giants starting pitching is very good. And Doval is beginning to look like a big time closer. But getting through the 7th and 8th with their bullpen is, to put it mildly, an adventure.

Team is healthiest it’s been all season. That helps. Wade has been coming on along with Bart. Estrada and Flores have been their most consistent hitters. Gonzalez is in a big slump.

To get going on all cylinders they need Belt, Crawford Pederson Longoria to get hot. Pederson hasn’t hit an HR since late June.

According to this site, with 47 games left, the Giants have the ninth most difficult remaining schedule in MLB (51.3%).

ESPN has both the Phillies and Cardinals with lower odds than the Giants of making it. Current odds:

Mets, Dodgers, 99.9%.  Braves, 99.7%. Those three are virtual locks.
Padres, Phillies and Cardinals are 80.2%, 80.1% and 78%, respectively.  

Cardinals, Mets and Dodgers are the likely division winners.  Braves, Padres and Phillies would be wild cards.

The rest?  Brewers are at 54.6%.  Giants are only at 6.5%, 5.5 back of the Padres with just 47 games to go.  Could happen.  Giants have six remaining against the Padres.  Unlikely, though.

5th win in a row and second walkoff in three games. Giants gained ground on both the Dodgers and Padres. 

ESPN increased Giants odds of making the playoffs from 6.5% yesterday to 7.5% today.

As of this a.m., Giants offense has scored the 8th highest runs per game in MLB, but has 13th highest OPS. Giants have 16th lowest ERA and 17th lowest WHIP in MLB. And Giants are now the 2nd worst fielding team in MLB, according to their -52 Rtot (Total Zone Total Fielding Runs Above Average) rating.

It would take a miracle to get to that sixth playoff slot, especially having to surmount both the Brewers (3.5 ahead of the Giants) and the Padres (4.5 ahead of the Giants).

What in the hell is wrong with the New York Yankees?!??!!?

They are reminding me of the 2016 Giants a bit. Had best record in MLB at the All-Star Break but were one of the worst in MLB after. The Yankees are now 8-17 since the All-Star Break, and have a lot of guys really struggling to produce.

In their last 7 games, they have been held to 2 or less in 6 of them, including 4 shutouts! They even managed to lose 1-0 in 13 innings over this stretch. This isn't historic 13 inning shutout, this is you get to start the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th innings with a guy on second!

Giancarlo Stanton and Matt Carpenter being out has no doubt hurt, but something else seems wrong.
