He speaks well of other schools, but speaks glowingly about Stanford. I think we will all be very happy this week and next week.

After Long and Butler, to fill out the class, I would like to see:
(1) Rand, Schaffer, Kemp or another high quality DE. Can't whiff on this.
(2) Stewart plus one more WR. Robertson, Crawford or Burton would be brobdingnagian, but I have my doubts.Â
(3) Hattis plus maybe one more high quality OL, such as Dickerson, Farniok, Braun, Niang, or Tatum. No need to stretch for a Plan B though if Hattis is on board.Â
(4) Ulloa, Okeke, Fuller, Pryts or another high quality Safety.
(5) Simms, McCulloch, Jones, or another high quality LB. If two really good ones want to come, that's fine.
(6) Maybe another RB if Speights or Stephens wants to come, but otherwise, hold pat with Bisharat assuming he passes admissions.
(7) Possibly a kicker.

We didn't offer Josh Rosen, and I doubt if there has been a more discussed topic in 2015 than why we didn't. The general consensus seems to be that Shaw didn't think Rosen was coachablete

Scott Schrader, SC's site writer for 247, and Tom Loy, ND's site writer for same, changed their picks to Stanford last night...which I think we can take as confirmation that Long is, indeed, Stanford-bound.

It has seemed Long was going to be Farm-bound for a while now. Though he is projected as a CB, he sure looks like someone who could play both ways.

My take includes the caveat that the academics of each player reach the admissible standard.

Yes on Rand.
Yes on Schaffer.
Kemp wants to play the stand-up OLB role instead of a DE role with a hand on the ground. The knock is he doesn't have the athleticism for a OLB and perhaps lacks the toughness of a DL. Tweener; I do not see us extending an offer. He is Michigan or ND bound.

Yes on Robertson.
We may be the best option for Crawford. Oregon's WR board is full.
Burton's dad loves Stanford. Does Brandon? Safety is more likely but two-way is a possibility.

Dickerson is too new an offer an offer, so there is no read yet on whether we can make up ground and build a relationship. His hudl tape is full of run blocking where he just decimates opponents, but I didn't see one pass blocking situation. It might be the reason he is considered an OG at the next level instead of an OT even though he has the length to be an OT. Perhaps the concern is that he doesn't have the flexibility for OT from some scouts?
Farniok sounds like he wants to remain in the Midwest but we'll see.
Plan B TBD.

Ulloa probably finds the depth chart at ND more favorable than Stanford. Perhaps he really enjoyed the Junior day this weekend. This will be a battle with the Irish.
Okeke is in a similar situation as Ulloa. Strong academics here.
No on Fuller.
Pryts is a legacy Penn State kid. Distance an issue here. Do not see this happening.
Brandon Burton looks like the best possibility to fill safety position.

No on Simms.
McCulloch has strong academics, but doesn't seem interested in leaving region. Maybe with a strong push and an OV.

Speights was expected to commit to aTm after his visit a few weeks ago, but he didn't. Instead he said he would commit after the season and no longer plans to enroll early. Both are very Stanford favorable moves. He also tweeted his official offer letter from Stanford a couple of days ago.
No info on Stephens.

I appreciate your input, PrinceLightfoot. If I can generalize, I'd say that I am less certain than you are about what will happen with some of the issues you raised. Kemp and Simms come to mind. Also, I am not sure the staff is so set on the 3 OT/1 OG split. I can imagine the staff might be thrilled to take Dickerson over a middling OT, even if Dickerson is destined for OG. FYI, I subscribe, so I am aware of the issues you raised, but let's not discuss the details here so as to avoid giving away Andy's info.Â

Hard to say what position Dickerson's billeted for. Rivals and Scout call him an OG while ESPN and 247 think he's an OT. I don't believe Dickerson, himself, has indicated either way.

Movement between OT and OG, DE and NT, ILB and OLB, or CB and S is certainly possible for many recruits. Although less common, some of the premier athletes on the board -- such as Robertson, Burton, Bisharat, Stephens, and Long -- even have been recruited on offense and defense by various schools. At least from the public information I've read, it seems like the staff is good about letting players initiate such moves if/when the depth chart looks appealing to the player. Especially the elite guys may have a vision of playing a particular position in the pros and may have no desire to switch. So it's not like we can count on such moves just because we see a need. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.Â

To answer TrumpCard's question at the bottom of page 70, I am not 100% sure but think he is right: Highly-sought but academically borderline recruits do not get negative news in August. In some other sports, yes, as there are fewer spots (like tennis, soccer) and if a more highly sought recruit is admitted and accepts then the next ones in line get the news and move on. But in football, most 4 and 5 stars on the border academically can earn credibility with admissions by either achieving good grades in tough classes (AP or Honors) in Autumn quarter/semester or improving their ACT or SAT's. Here's to many of them doing the work and getting admitted this year, it could be a 2012-like year!!

KJ Costello has to earn his 5th star and Stanford has to land Demetris Robinson for it to be a 2012-type class (Top 5), but the class may actually have more 4-star recruits than any Stanford has ever had?

Some one who's more clever than I am can embed this properly, but the main thing to know is that David Long has committed to CardClass16. 24/7 now puts our class ahead of Oregon's for second in the Pac-12. Long's commitment isn't a brobdingnagian surprise, but it certainly keeps the momentum going, doesn't it?

Hulk, what's your opinion on Long? IIRC you had prognosticated that Terrence Alexander was the player to watch out for last year and sure enough he had a great season as a true Frosh.

Anybody can watch Long's highlights and see he is a difference maker player. Looks like the kind of athlete Oregon and USC always have that Stanford has rarely has. Though it looks more and more like Stanford is going to have its share of them for a while now.

Long is a brobdingnagian pick up. His highlights jump off the screen when you watch. It's worth a minute to check him out on hudl.
Overall, Stanford is getting more traction than I can ever remember with the elite Wr/db types. Burton just visited. Crawford claims interest. Robertson suggested Stanford leads. I have my doubts about actually landing any of the remaining elite guys after Butler, but it's exciting to have Stanford in the mix for now. A big playmaker at WR would be a key addition for this class. Two would be unprecedented.
