1968 for the Giants both both starters and overall

Hey Phogge what former Seal was on the 1968 staff ?
I looked just now bet I’m right. The team had no 300 hitters and only three had double digit HRs.
Hey time to lower the mound

They had Christy Mathewson (1.43 ERA), Red Ames (1.81), Hooks Wiltse (2.24), Iron Man Joe McGinnity (2.27), Luther Taylor (2.33), Bill Malarkey (2.57) and Doc Crandall (2.94).  They even had a 21 year old Rube Marquard (only pitched/started one game) and -- no typo -- a pitcher named Bull Durham. Team ERA was 2.14, best the Giants franchise ever saw.

What year was the best year, statistically speaking, for the San Francisco Giants' starting rotation? For the pitching staff overall?

Overall - 1968 because the entire league was at a modern era low that year.

Correct, 1968 for the staff overall (2.71 ERA for the season) and for the starting rotation only. In 1967, Giants had four main starters:

Perry, 2.61
Marichal, 2.76
Sadecki, 2.78
McCormick, 2.85

but they had three other starters who started 36 games collectively with about a 3.60 ERA.

What is the largest private American university as measured by collective in-person (not online) undergraduate and graduate student populations?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 07-24-2022

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - BobK - 07-24-2022

SORRY Bobbbb.... Nope. Monbo never pitched for the Seals.

Monbouquette: 1955 Bluefield Class D, Corning Class D
1956 Corning D
1957 Greensboro B, Albany A. Boston transfers franchise as Giants move to SF at end of season.
1958 Minneapolis AAA, Was first year of SF Giants and he was a Giant in 1968. 0-1 in seven games.

Bill Henry: 1956 Seals, 5-6 in 29 games. San Francisco Giants 1968 0-1 in seven games.

Funny I recall him Exhibition maybe?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 07-24-2022

Nope. The Indians played in '55 and the Red Sox in '56 and maybe '57 but he never rose above A until 1958. I doubt that he was in their camp in '56-7.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - BobK - 07-24-2022

Ok. So what Giant hit a HR shortly after Armstrong landed on the moon?
Hope this isn’t a repeat

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 07-24-2022

Gaylord Perry, of whom Alvin Dark had said 5 years earlier, "a man will land on the moon before he hits a home run".

Good
Ernie Banks and Ichiro are 2. Three to go

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Mick - 07-28-2022

Mr. Expo, Andre Dawson would be my guess.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 07-28-2022

Hey Bobbbb, I don’t know where you got the dope but Griffey played more games without a WS than Banks did and you credited me with Banks.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - BobK - 07-28-2022

I just wanted to see if you were paying attention finally pulling your chain lol
Griffey Jr and Dawson are now 4.
