We didn't offer Josh Rosen, and I doubt if there has been a more discussed topic in 2015 than why we didn't. The general consensus seems to be that Shaw didn't think Rosen was coachable.

I think there were lots of people who shared that opinion. Rosen didn't do himself any favors in his appearance on the ESPN's Elite 11 hour-long show last summer. Trent Dilfer and the rest of the coaches talked repeatedly about how stubborn and overconfident he was. Before watching that I wondered how the top ranked quarterback in America, someone who called Stanford his dream school, didn't get an offer. Then it all made sense.

What doesn't make sense (to me anyway) is how few other coaches Rosen's attitude seemed to bother. He had offers from UCLA, U$C, N.otre Dame, Michigan, and Texas, among many others. Now, after one spring ball at UCLA, he appears to be the front runner for the starting job. So, if he turns into a star at Bruinland, you will have to wonder a bit if DS made the right decision.

I'm not convinced that a thumbs-up from Sarkesian or Brian Kelly Is evidence of Rosen being a high-character guy. Keep in mind that DS is looking for football players that become men who represent the Stanford name well. I'd like to think that bar is higher at Stanford than the other schools mentioned.

Wow, is this the earliest a commit has ever been admitted? Is admissions working with the coaches to expedite admission as a way of dealing with the early entry issue other schools can present? I thought these decisions usually came starting in October at the earliest?

Barton was an August admit. But yes FB with its LOI date in Feb usually is later

Athletes start to receive admissions in August. So I think several dominoes will start to fall in the next 2 weeks, as those interested in LSJU (committed and uncommitted, verbal and silent) start to find out if they are admitted and make decisions. Of course a number of commits and interested athletes (in all sports) still have to complete their apps or are waiting for Autumn grades or better test scores.Â
OT: One of JH's great innovations (or his staff's, in collaboration with admissions) was being able to give recruits clear guidance as to what they needed in grades, AP classes and test scores to be admitted. It appears that DS took this to a higher level, and has been both more discriminating in who receives offers and better at working with uncertain recruits to keep their commitment levels quiet until they receive the admissions decision. Â

FWIW, I see that pkpk is a 1st time poster on this site. It's notable that pkpk's 1st post relates to the subject of admissions of 2016 recruits. It makes me think that this person may be a new fan. :)
Based on my limited knowledge, I haven't heard of too many recruits receiving negative news in August. The staff tends to have the strongest applicants submit early, and urge the borderline applicants to wait for an SAT re-take and/or 7th semester grades. Therefore, my understanding is that negative news would have to be informal guidance based on some data point like grades or SAT scores. A kid may receive negative guidance after junior year grades come out, but I don't know of too many other data points until October, when SAT scores and mid-semester grades come out. In August, the fan boards sometimes hear that a kid decided not to take the AP classes that Stanford requires, but that's the kid's decision more than negative news from the school. pkpk, do you have more information about the admissions process that leads you to believe that there are borderline kids who might get negative news soon? Thanks for your input.

I wouldn't have sweated out my Stanford acceptance so much if I'd know I was already registered on their premier fan board 8 years before I was born!

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding where Long stands. I saw on Twitter that when Gorney, the recruiting reporter, listed Stan U.SC and UCLA, a bunch of Wash. fans felt that they were in the final two. And now it seems U.SC is a finalist. But didn't Long, just a week or two ago, openly declare that Stanford was leading? Isn't that why 24/7 Sports has Stanford listed as a "Favorite" for Long?Â
Did something happen in the last week to change this?

I remember reading that Gashouse Gang member Dizzy Dean repeatedly gave different birth dates and places to different reporters, just to "give them something to report on."Â Maybe that's what's happening here...
