Not bad for a 33 year old. Frelick has the best metrics, and is probably the favorite.

All three names correct, year was 2016, which was the year that Panik and Posey won their sole gold gloves. Crawford won four through his career.

Yes to Gary Matthews (1973) and the Count (John Montefusco, 1975), both of whom were MLB and Sporting News Rookies of the Year.
Maddox, unfortunately, was a rookie the same year as Matthews. He had eight Gold Gloves, and patrolled centerfield in Candlestick's swirling winds for four years, but...he didn't win the Gold Gloves until after he was traded to Philadelphia, when he won eight consecutive GG's. George Foster, Maddox and Matthews were all drafted in 1968, all from Southern California high schools.
The other three were catcher Dave Rader (1972), John D'Acquisto (1974), and Larry Herndon (1976), all of which were awarded by the Sporting News.
Rader finished 2nd in MLB RoY voting. He was a passable catcher. No power or speed, but didn't strike out much, so his OBP was usually good.
D'Acquisto had one decent year, his rookie year, when he won 12 games with a 3.77 ERA, struck out 167. Notable only because he was wild, (2nd in the NL in walks twice), had 7 losing seasons in 10 years, just one winning season as a reliever.
Larry Herndon had a decent rookie year (hit .288, but with zero power). A full time starter, he played for the Giants for six years and hit 24 home runs. The next season, traded to Detroit, he hit 23 home runs. He had one season over 100 OPS+ for SF, then averaged 110 OPS+ for Detroit.

The Mercury News' Dieter Kurtenbach savaged the choice of Buster Posey in this morning's article. Pretty good summary here:

Long story short, Kurtenbach accuses the Giants of having no direction or structure, no overarching philosophy and that Posey is just a feel-good hire without the qualifications or even a plan in place to succeed. Basically, he's cashing in his slack with the fans and ownership. DK says the press conference was empty rhetoric, implied that Posey is not remotely qualified, and that the Giants are taking a step unprecedented in modern baseball. Culminates it by saying hiring Posey is beneath the Giants.
In an article dripping with Snark, Kurtenbach notes that Posey will need to build up the farm system, improve player development plan and optimize the 40 man roster. He says that he'll have to do it with Zaidi's staff, and that this was a pure crony hire. Says Posey wants to be a figurehead, and questioned whether Posey's appointment was about winning.
Kurtenbach is often wrong but never uncertain.

Dave Rader went back to Bakersfield and became a plumber, which his father and grandfather were before him. Larry Herndon became a hitting coach, and was a hitting coach as of 2022. Matthews became a broadcaster, mainly doing on field interviews and middle inning commentary for the Phillies. His nickname was "Sarge" given to him by Pete Rose during a hot streak.

Re Lopez, Gyros preferred Donny Walton.
To be fair to the guy who was in charge at the time, Walton wasn’t called up until the end of the season. Since Estrada was entrenched at 2B to begin the season and because Lopez is not a true utility guy (85% of his playing time with Miami was at 2B) there really wasn’t room for him on the roster.
Fitzgerald at 2B would be great. Of course, that means SF needs a SS. I’m not a fan of either Adames (not strong defensively) or Kim (coming off a major injury). I would like to see a trade for a SS who is superior defensively and can hit in the .230-.250 range.
I am hopeful Posey will be more open to trades than his predecessor.

Giants had the 7th shortest average game in 2024.
Melvin was successful in 51% of his challenges, 22nd in MLB.
Giants had the second youngest pitching staff on average, and the 9th oldest hitters on average in 2024.
Giants attendance was 2.647 million, 12th in MLB. They had the 7th highest attendance growth, growing by about 150k, 1,822 extra fans per game.
Giants hitters finished 17th in MLB in runs per game and 13th in OPS+. They were around league average in most categories.

The Giants were over the 2024 CBT. You didn’t add in the benefits total of roughly $17MM. Both Spotrac and Cot’s baseball contracts have SF around the $250M total.
I look for a total payroll (excl. benefits) in the $200-$220 range in 2025. The CBT max. will be $241.

Hope he does well. The Guardians have an even bigger hill to climb that the Giants. They pitched reasonably well, 8th in runs allowed, 10th in ERA but just 18th in WHIP, suggesting that they got lucky in the field. They can't hit well, having finished 27th in runs per game, and their fielding is just average -- fielding percentage just above MLB average, Rtot just below MLB average, DPs 24th in MLB.
Their starters were a bit above average, relievers a bit below average. They had three strong rookie starters (Tanner Bibee, Gavin Williams & Logan Allen). They were weak up the middle -- both SS and Catchers were 27th in WAR, CF was 25th. Only 2B was 2nd in WAR. Corner infielders were 13th (1B) and 7th (3B). 7th in LF, 26th in RF.
They finished 13 games back of the wild card with a -35 run differential but won the AL Central in 2022. Vogt has his work cut out for him. He replaces Terry Francona who retired after 11 years and is likely a future HoFer.
Cleveland interviewed SF Giants bullpen coach Craig Albernaz, along with LAD 1st base coach McCulllough, and the Cubs and Yankees bench coaches. Also interviewed Brewers manager Craig Counsell.
Vogt indeed had his work cut out for him and absolutely crushed it. The Guardians lead the AL Central at 76-58.
Former SF Giant/former Oakland A Stephen Vogt was just named AL Manager of the Year in his first year. They finished 92-69 improving on last year's record by 16 wins. The Guardians finished first in their division, beat the Tigers in the ALDS, and lost to the Yankees in the ALCS.

I don’t put too much stock in Manager of the Year awards.
Bruce Bochy and Gabe Kapler have the same number of MOTY awards (1). That tells me everything one needs to know about the award.
Vogt did a great job in the regular season but he had a poor post-season. Like so many rookie managers he exhibited a tendency to over manage when the spotlight became brighter. His pitching changes were too frequent and costly.
I ‘m sure he learned some valuable lessons and won’t be so anxious to use the hook next time.
By the way, Bob Melvin has won the award three times. Hmmmm…..
