With apologies to wheel of fortune:
Yes Pat I’d like to buy a Block

That slide is a killer
Blockers need to start guessing some

The 2nd set was a lot more fun to watch than the 1st. I wonder why?

1-1. 25-15

Baird is a big part of the difference

Poor start to set 3, down 4-8, timeout.

Well so much for momentum in set 3.
First block.
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball -
SkiBum80 - 12-09-2023
Part way thru 3rd set I think we finally got first block
Service errors killing us any time we get momentum

Yaeh I know we want service pressure but this is out of control
Set 3 slipping away

19-25, ouch. Close until near the end.

Service reception seemed very shaky that set. Confusion especially with Oglive on who was receiving and some shaky passing overall. And way too many service errors.
Set 4 slipping away now if they aren’t careful

It's always a little worse when we underperform our seeding.

Texas wins. They were better today. Skinner was the best player on the floor.
I am happy Baird ended on a much better game. She deserved that.
For me the core today was too many service errors and no blocking. The middles were also mostly without impact the last 2 matches though we at least had some blocking vs. ASU. I am not seeing how that is better or even the same next year.
in the end this has been a very good team, but not Final 4 level. They have had their shots the last 2 years at home. It will be a big rebuild next year.
The big positive is Rubin has emerged as a star.

When Texas lost to Stanford at home in September, Skinner hit .083.
Tonight, she hit .383.
Stanford had 20 hitting errors tonight, Texas only 11.

Blocks 12 or 13 to 3. Texas has an odd BA count. I Don’t know if the live stats missed one if it counted a triple block. And service errors 14-7.
That’s 25 points.

Pretty devastating for the 5th years, but I'm not surprised by the result.
This team just doesn't have the swagger of their immediate predecessor:
Freshman Class of 2016 PLUMMER / HENTZ / GRAY / FITZMORRIS
(add McCLURE and once-in-a-blue-moon transfer GATES)
and, more importantly, the consistency to stay at the highest level.
So looking at next season,
Stanford will have returning starters:
Jr RUBIN at OH1
Sr MINER at S
Sr FRANCIS at MB1
Sr OGLIVIE at L
And then most likely:
So BLYASHOV/ RSFr KURT at OH2 (replaces BAIRD)
So HARVEY at OPP (replaces KIPP)
Fr ANDREWS at MB2 (replaces VICINI)

I hope Andrews is ready but I am somewhat skeptical.
