Remember how Messina squared off after throwing a pitch? He could field anything.
Bruno does a pirouette and can’t field anything. He might have handled that ball up the middle if someone had taught him how to pitch.

I’ll put it like this, if that had been a Stanford batter at the plate and that pitch was called a strike, I would’ve been livid.

I probably should not have watched that video, as it has not helped my mood. When you watch it, keep in mind that blue was giving a very generous high outside corner this afternoon. If the ump gets to set the strike zone, which we allow by refusing to allow machines to make the calls, his strike zone should be consistent. Given that umops strike zone today, that was a gorgeous pitch. You can't ask a kid to do anything more on that pitch than he did. If he would have grooved it down the middle and watched it ssil over the fence, we eould have been on his case for tering up the ball for a power hitter.
Btw, in my previous post, I forgot to credit the Wake kid for a great hit. Even if they force the pitcher to throw meet, the batter has to hit it. Good on him for foing so.

Looked high and outside to me. The camera is on the left field side of dead center so in reality the pitch is even further outside than what we saw.
I think we should use robots to call balls and strikes. Literally no good reason not to, tradition be damned.

Great play by Rios to gun down the runner at the plate.
I like the lineup with Cobb at DH (not in the field). Gives us a strong bat at every position. Montgomery back in RF.

I assume Joey Dixon will return. He gives us a pretty good Friday night starter, though I'd like to see him be able to regularly pitch seven innings. He's not there yet. Saturday and Sunday night probably will be Dugan and Scott. Both are promising but have a ways to go. IF the latter two each improve over the offseason, our weekend rotation could be pretty good.
The relievers should mostly, perhaps all return. And, we have a couple highly recruited freshmen coming in. Hopefully neither takes the MLB money and actually decide to show up on campus. The bullpen could be anywhere from "meh" (as in this year) to "pretty good" if guys improve and the freshmen contribute. We should also get back Tommy O'Rourke from injury, who supposedly was greatly improved heading into the season before he got hurt.
