Another Giant trade

This is like changing the draperies in a house that needs a complete renovation.

It is still a dump but has beautiful window coverings.

Update: two more deals…

Rosenthal to Milwaukee
Boyd to Seattle

Neither player ever saw the field with SF.

No word yet on what the Giants received in return.

Here a deck chair, there a deck chair, everywhere on the Titanic we're rearranging deck chairs...

Rodon and Peterson are staying in SF.  Both are eligible for QO’s. I doubt SF would extend one to Peterson.  As for Rodon, he would certainly decline thus giving SF a draft choice after he signs elsewhere.

Don't the that's an appropriate comparison. More like the Giants are a Buick compared to the Dodgers and Padres Ferrari and Lamborghini, and management just changed the spark plugs and tires.

Wish SFG management would just break down, get rid of the Buick and buy a Bugatti Chiron SuperSport 300+. I'd settle for a Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut.

I don't know, I haven't read Baldacci in a long time.  But both cards can be seen at this link.  At the end of the article:

I should have kept my Avanti.

RE: 2022 Giants thread - OutsiderFan - 08-03-2022

The Dodgers and Padres are playing take no prisoners chess. The Giants are playing pick up sticks with their butt cheeks.

I went in to yesterday convinced the only move for the Giants to make was to trade Rodon at minimum. This was no longer me wanting it to happen. This was looking at it objectively and realistically, based on the fact the Giants aren't as good as the teams ahead of them who would get better. Hell, even the biggest Giants Cheerleader Grant Brisbee wrote a column two days ago saying the Giants should sell, and followed with a trade deadline day story about possible trade assets the Giants could get for Rodon. Then the Padres and Phillies make their moves and it is obvious they are getting better, so now it's not even a question the Giants will trade Rodon because they can't keep up. It's literally as obvious as taking your hand off a hot stove after feeling the burn. So I was convinced the Giants would trade Rodon, and no longer had to wish it or just see it as the obvious move, but not sure it would happen. No way they would keep him.

But no, the Giants didn't "make a trade to make a trade," as Farhan said. They decided to flail away just to flail away, instead. At least had they traded Rodon they would have demonstrated a situational awareness the fan base is dying to see. The fans want to see an organization that is honest with itself, because if it can't be honest with itself, how the hell are fans suppose to trust it? Instead, the Giants insult their fans' intelligence and pretend that they can still be relevant with Rodon in a way they couldn't without him. The Emperor is threadbare, which SHOULD crater ticket sales for the remainder of the year and teach the team a lesson that the fans will not tolerate their intelligence being insulted. You are either all in, or all out, building for something better. This fence sitting, let's pretend we care a little to get butts in seats hoping the fans don't get wise to our bullshit is simply unacceptable.

After the trade deadline yesterday I found myself thinking of the Giants as having owners like Chris Cohan or the Yorks pre Jed running the Niners. When Cohan owned the Warriors I not only tuned out the Warriors but the entire NBA for like a decade. I didn't follow the Niners or NFL very closely in the lost 2000s. If the Giants don't do some big and I mean BIG things this offseason, I will tune them out too, because there is nothing more toxic to a fan's relationship with a team than lack of ownership trust. The Giants under the current ownership leader are on the verge of losing my trust and I will not hesitate to turn away if they don't do something to earn it back soon. Rant over.

Epic fail. Getting only a compensation pick for Rodon is pathetic.Pirates got a 24 year old major league reliever and 21 year old infielder at Double A level with 17 homers from the Cardinals. Quintana is a rental. And no where near the pitcher Rodon is. Pirates threw in Chris Stratton.  Giants could have thrown in Leone.  And got more.

RE: 2022 Giants thread - BobK - 08-03-2022

Turn em out please
However rant continues I am so f tired of runner on third one or no outs and the batter takes the third strike. I get 3 and 2 close pitch but Geesh last night again 1 and 2 Wade takes the third strike
Ok with our relief pitching turns out it didn’t matter

But loved the 5 run inning

RE: 2022 Giants thread - Phogge - 08-03-2022

OF should have coffee with Anne Killion. She is a delight usually but totally pessimistic about the Giants future this morning. Probably correct.

Still I can’t wait to see Harrison on the hill.

The absolute great thing about baseball is that you can watch a crappy team take down a great team every now and then. That doesn’t happen in college football except for a miracle like what happened in 2007.

I watch the game within the game. That’s the beauty of the pace of baseball. Lately I watch the MLB Net because DISH broke up with NBC Bay Area. If the game is boring there is always Law and Order reruns on some channel.

So OF and Lex wear your hair shirt. I’m hoping for an NL playoff between the Pads and LA. Godzilla vs King Kong. Entertainment!

RE: 2022 Giants thread - Phogge - 08-03-2022

Giants promote Randy Rodriguez from Eugene to Double A Richmond, joining Harrison. 6.2 IP, 13K.

Probably both start in Sacto in '23.

RE: 2022 Giants thread - OutsiderFan - 08-03-2022

Very pleased to see how pissed off Giants fans are in the comments on two articles in TA today.

Farhan is way too smart to believe and actually say he thinks they have the players to contend on this team. He's absolutely nuking his credibility with nonsense like that.

I want nothing more than to see the bottom fall out of attendance and ratings for TV/Radio/Online the rest of the season. Fans need to vote with their wallets and pay no attention to the product to send a loud and clear message.

I think fans have been voting with their feet, largely.  They've been spoiled by three World CHampionships, now many distant years in the past.

Here's a few stats.  SF Giants #12 in overall attendance:
2022 Major League Baseball Attendance & Team Age | Baseball-Reference.com

My favorite attendance page.  Contains W/L records over the years for the Giants, attendance, overall payroll, and attendance position in the league:
San Francisco Giants Attendance, Stadiums, and Park Factors | Baseball-Reference.com

Game average attendance started to crater after the failure in 2017, then subsequent failures in 2018 and 2019.

RE: 2022 Giants thread - BostonCard - 08-03-2022

I’m not a Giants fan, so IDGAF, but I’m just checking to make sure there wasn’t a big ownership change or management shake-up after the team won 107 games, right?  I’m not hallucinating, that was only last year, right?

Talk about “what have you done for me lately…”

RE: 2022 Giants thread - Phogge - 08-03-2022

You can stick a fork in them for 2022. Dodgers better at every position, starters, bullpen, manager, general manager, organist, trainers, owner.........
