if you sign a LOI in Feb 2015, does that makes you class of '19?
edit: sorry, Yvonne, I've now read where he will take a mission (hence your '17). thanks.

WIM you should have beaten me to the punch and started the Class of 2017 thread! ;)
If you want to feel better about LB commit Perez - Redrum - 07-30-2013

Perez gets down and sticks it to some pretty good OL that outweigh him by...lots. One OL that has opened up his recruitment after initially committing to Iowa is 4-star Ross Pierschbacher who has visited Alabama and Stanford. The size difference is noticeable and almost funny when they line up. But in a couple of these one-on-ones Perez holds his own and on a couple gets the better of him. And you'll get to see Hoge, who seems like the real deal. Perez is just a ballplayer...like Gardner, like Tarpley. Might end up on offense.

Stanford offered QB Ricky Town today over Josh Rosen. Rosen can't be very happy about that. He'll probably end up at Kal now.
Re: Class of 2015 -

All I can say is the staff better know what they're doing letting a guy who really wants to go to Stanford end up at Cal. I guess when he didn't get a call after camp, we should have known he wasn't getting an offer.

That's gotta hurt. I feel bad for the kid.
On the other hand, it seems like a high risk strategy to go after the kid that Alabama and Texas are targeting (i.e. Ricky Town) in place of a kid you know wants you.
I like what it says about Shaw: we're not going to settle for "good enough", we're striving for the top of the podium. I just hope it works out.Â

We were on Town way before any of these big time programs were and Town was talking up Stanford a very long time ago. He has a high GPA - 3.8 range. I'd be shocked if we haven't been his leader this entire time.

Well, Patrick Schmidt doesn't see it that way, but what does he know?
Quote:Id handicap the race as a 75 percent chance he picks Alabama, 20 percent for Texas and 5 percent Stanford. Obviously its early in the process for Town, but it would take a monumental effort to unseat Alabama for the lead.

Rosen once said he "would apply to the [Stanford] if it had nothing to do with football."Â If he doesn't get an offer, I say he should go ahead and apply and try to walk on.

Well, guess we can take the "Shaw is risk averse" meme off the table.

Yeah, that'll happen.

Other than this year (Chryst), when was the last time we only offered one QB at a time? Even when we offered Burns, we'd already offered Tyrone Swoopes and Kevin Olson. Any chance we'll offer Rosen in the next few months anyway?
Re: Class of 2015 -
yvonne - 07-30-2013
Here's how it will go: Josh will commit to kal. Ricky will commit to Alabama. We'll offer Josh. Josh will be so pissed off that he wasn't our number one that he'll stick with kal.

I missed why Rosen wasn't at the camp for a head-to-head showing with Town. Anyone know?

He was at the previous one, where supposedly he was really good.
What's odd is that if they were both so good, why not just...offer them both?
Re: Class of 2015 -
JohnR34231 - 07-30-2013
Just because he was at the previous camp didn't mean he couldn't have come to this one also.
Of course, we could do what some schools do. Offer them both and take which one is the first to commit.

Very odd to me that this wasn't the strategy they pursued. Unless they think they can come back later and get Rosen, but that seems very risky in this case.

Anyway, here's a nice article about our 2015(ish) commit, Christian Folau. Sounds like a nice kid:

I just watched highlight film of both Rosen and Town. With the caveat of selection bias, Town looks much more mobile (not surprised considering his considerably faster 40 time). Town throws impressively on the run. Of the video I saw of Rosen, he had good protection and was a statue slinging it (accurately).
