Daniels with one of the most egregious beyond the line of scrimmage throws I've ever seen.
Neither of these QBs is any good. Would take Nunes over these guys.

At least we were not embarrassed. Sucks to lose by 1 when Karty missed 2 FGs.

Classic playing just well enough to lose.
Oh well, the score was a lot closer than most people expected it to be.

Elijah Brown licking his chops at how easy the QB "competition" will be when he comes in.

Key play was that third and three from the 34. Perfect play call. Filkins wide open on a swing pass. Easy first down. Daniels missed him badly.
Also on last drive wanted to see Lamson on first down at 25. Run the ball.
Between the two, I’d rather see Lamson. Daniels may throw it better. But he does not make decisions quickly. And his pocket presence is nonexistent.

I think we need to be realistic but not disparaging. This is the last game we play with a realistic chance of winning. That’s not to say we won’t pull an upset but it will be one big upset. And we have to play three teams that could seriously injure our underage, undersized and under skilled team. That’s realistic.
I am very proud of this bunch and of their coaches for the way they played tonight. They played with heart and with more skill than they really have. To use a cliche, from what I saw,” they left it all out on the field.”
The coaches did a very , very good job of pulling this team together after a crushing loss to USC and an embarrassing loss To Sacramento State. I’m proud of them, too.
I do t know whether the team will play with heart the rest of the way. That would be truly remarkable. And I won’t fault this coaching staff if they can’t keep them motivated week after week of crushing losses.
But tonight , the team played like men and made me proud. And the coaches did what they needed to do also. I think they deserve our respect.
The rest of this season is less about rebuilding than surviving . They need support , Not analysis.
THATS MY OPINION AND IM STICKIN’ To IT

Filkins swing pass, illegal forward pass, missed Karty FGs. De Laura was out injured and the defense couldn't capitalize...and also Pac-12 referees don't call at least two intentional grounding penalties. It makes a one point loss really hard to take, but I hope the team is motivated for the long grind ahead of them. Oregon coming off a statement win against Colorado will be a tall order.

A valiant effort
A lotta good play
Could even claim improvements
Just still too many mistakes & breakdowns to bring home a win
Unfortunately gets ridiculously tougher now,
More USC-like than Hawaii- or even Arizona-like
This season will be running a gauntlet of duress
Well wishes to the players

For those despairing of another win this year, consider Northwestern, whose program is in as dire straits as Stanford, if not worse. They were trailing Minnesota by 21 going into the 4th quarter. They tied the score at the end of regulation. After holding the Gophers to a FG in OT, they connected on a 25-yard pass on their first OT play to walk-off 37-34 winners. They were led by a 6th-year QB grad transfer from Cincy, Ben Bryant (34-49, 396 yards, 4 TD)

"...underage, undersized and under skilled..."
Pretty much sums up the 2023 squad. Worse, we can't look for any inspiration in comparison to EUTM's debut season of the shocker wins against USC and Cal. This team will not win again until it stops finding ways to lose like ast night. Where the hell are the playmakers?

Obviously it's bad that they can't finish off two pretty weak teams but the extreme youth is some consolation.

What about the student section?
This was the first game I attended in a couple of years.
I’d estimate 15k actual attendance. Student turnout was excellent: the student section was filled by the end of the 1st quarter.
The atmosphere was surprisingly good. The weather was gorgeous and there was decent if low-key energy from the crowd.
The highlight for me though was seeing Christian Mccaffrey and Andrew Luck up close.
Mccaffrey was introduced down at field level. Luck was in dad mode, quietly hanging out in the cheap seats with his buddies and playing with his kid(s) on the grass.
I wondered how many people didn’t recognize him, or if they like me simply didn’t want to bother him.

looking from the sunny side I'd guess there were maybe 10,000 people there. The shady side was sparsely populated with the exception of the student section, the end zones mostly empty, I'm assuming the sunny side was no more full than the shady side. Lot 2 was the least occupied I have seen it for a conference game, wide swaths of area usually occupied by tailgates were empty and many that were occupied were smaller/less well attended (our included) than even last year
