RE: K-State game thread - thunder_chik - 09-04-2021

Our performance is so pathetic I've had to turn the game off.
What possible excuse is there for what appears to be such a poorly coached team?
Neither QB has been in long enough to establish any kind of rhythm or feel for the game.
If Shaw throws the team under the bus for this one, I think I am done with Stanford football for the rest of the season.  Just too painful/frustrating to watch.

RE: K-State game thread - ADPinWDC - 09-04-2021

West is done.  8 for 12 and 76 yds, 0 TDs, 2 INTs.
His throws downfield were high and outside.

Meanwhile, Stanford has all of 37 yards RUSHING after 55 minutes.

RE: K-State game thread - All Right Now - 09-04-2021

I watch every play of every Stanford game.
I have season tickets and go to every home game.
I follow recruiting.
I read the CARDboard.
I listen to the Treecast.
I hang a Stanford flag in front of the house on Saturdays throughout the fall.

Why?  Why do I continue thinking that I want to invest time and energy in watching Stanford football?  I could echo all that's been said about coaching, play calls, delay of games, terrible defense, etc, but it's all been covered before.  It isn't just one game, or even one season, it's the identify of the program at this point.  Even when they've won games in recent years, the vast majority are painful to watch, and they do just barely, barely, barely enough to win anyway.  I think I'm done.  If this first game is an indication of how (another) season is going to go down, it will likely be my last.  Some great memories with Luck, McCaffrey, and many others, but this hasn't been fun for quite a while now.

Our last shutouts were 2006 UCLA and USC games...

And so it shall stay!

178 - 37

That (rushing totals) are the difference in the game. Forget the QB, the play calling, the delays of game, or anything else. If we give up 6.6 yards per carry and only get 1.8, we are going to lose every time.

Considering that we thought the running game might be the offense’s saving grace, this is a disaster and bodes poorly going forward.

Minimal chance but why not go for 2? Pretend we want to win this game.

RE: K-State game thread - old spanish trail - 09-04-2021

Well, if at least this means McKee has the starting job, he can get most of the reps and get in synch with the OL and receivers, etc.

Didn't think I'd walk away from this game more concerned about the offense than the defense, but here we are...

I was planning to go to the ASU game, for several other reasons as well. Reconsidering...

If he is NOT the new starter....I will be extremely pissed!

Tanner McKee won the starting job today.  The two QBs:
WEST: 8 for 12 and 76 yds, 0 TDs, 2 INTs. Rating 86.5
His throws downfield were high and outside.
McKEE: 15 for 18 and 118 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT. Rating 156.7.   That's Andrew Luck neighborhood.

I agree. The chances of us tying the game and sending it into OT were remote, but why make them zero?

Also let’s you practice two point conversions.  In the same way that the insides kick is meaningless, but you might as well practice.

RE: K-State game thread - qwerty49 - 09-04-2021

I’ve had more fun watching Emmett Smith’s family than the players today.

Jeez I’m starting to wonder why we don’t start Sanders at QB and just run the ball. Neither McKee nor West has great downfield vision or accuracy. West seems to throw off his back foot a lot.

Why is Sinclair listed at ILB? Seems like he could be a good safety. And we sure need help there.

RE: K-State game thread - winflop - 09-04-2021

The (very few) positives from the game:
1. The Tree-fense played well in the second half. Really only gave up a FG. One TD after an INT return inside our 30 is not on them.
2. We know who the starting QB is

Other than that, this game was a complete and total disaster.

If Shaw starts his presser with "lack of execution" I'm gonna scream my head off. He needs to own this from the first words out of his mouth. His team was woefully unprepared.

RE: K-State game thread - pcgoode - 09-04-2021

Generally agree. Defense played better than I though they would, and McKee is clearly a step ahead of West.

RE: K-State game thread - BostonCard - 09-04-2021

I mean, I don’t know why people get all bent out of shape about saying we didn’t execute. In my mind, it’s the coaches’ job to get our players to execute, so saying “we didn’t execute” (and Shaw usually says “we”) is taking ownership.

It’s also true. We executed poorly. Different play calling would not have led to a different result.

Hey guys!

Had an outing with the kids this morning, so missed the game. How did it go? Did our running game dominate? Was our o-line strong? Did West command the line of scrimmage with his vast knowledge of the playbook? Play action got us on the board? Defense, while green, good tacklers? Smart players avoided pre-snap penalties? Solid coaching by our experienced staff?

Excited to watch the replay!

Boring. Uninteresting. Not worth paying for a ticket.

Giants last night frustrating, torture, absolutely captivating win or lose.
