Is this the stealth?

Add 4 star and #26 rated WR Paulson Adebo to the 2017 admit, commit post! (And to Card Class '17)

Re: Class of 2017 - SUBuddha - 01-09-2017

I think he is being recruited as a CB.

Well, sure.  It was just 1/13th of the season, but it was the most important 1/13th.

If I had to choose between the win vs UNC and the win vs Southern Cal I would choose the latter.
If I had to choose between the win against UNC and the win vs Kal I would choose the latter.
If I could trade the win vs UNC for a win against Washington, Washington State or Colorado I would trade.
I would also keep our other conference wins, particularly vs UCLA, if forced to choose vs the UNC win.
I would also keep the win vs Notre Dame if forced to choose, others may feel differently.
Everyone is entitled to their own ranking but for me the bowl game win clearly ranks below each of the conference games in importance, as well as ranking lower in importance than our win over recruiting rival (and decidedly unpleasant fan base) Notre Dame.

I was among the first to object to the Sun Bowl being characterized as "meaningless" or "an exhibition". It was a nationally televised game against a strong opponent, and every game is critical in getting to 10 wins which I consider an important milestone. But in terms of importance to the program the game was far less important than a number of other games on the schedule.

You may well be correct. But, apparently ND was very excited about him as a WR (he's 6'2" same as Irwin, Meeks, Holder).

The level of despondency on that board almost makes me sad. Vitriol laser-focused on the AD and HC as opposed to indignation at Adebo de-committing from there to join Stanford.

Except I don't think anyone is grabbing pitchforks. Those of us who thought CMAC made the wrong decisions aren't going to toilet paper his house. I don't any of us will go on any fan boards and trash him as a player, call him "weak" or anything of the sort. I think most people in that camp just lost some of their motivation and desire to follow him as closely in the NFL and have a little less pride in his participation on the Stanford team. I personally still want to see him kick butt in the NFL and prove the draft pundits/GMs wrong for overlooking him. But I probably won't adjust my Sunday schedule to watch him play, like I will certain other former players.

Well, sure.  It was just 1/13th of the season, but it was the most important 1/13th.  To put it in terms this board will understand, it's the Deltas giving up after Wormer's visit.  It's Animal House without the Deathmobile, the parade, Flounder's marbles, Stork's marching band leadership, Otter punching out Gregg Marmalard and Bluto riding off in the distance with Mandy.
[/quote]

Well, we have now run the gamut from a "meaningless" game to the most important 1/13 of the season. That's quite a spread.

Re: Class of 2017 - donkey687 - 01-09-2017

Is Adebo the stealth that some were referring to (who as of today would no longer be stealth since he decommitted) or is there another stealth out there?

Re: Class of 2017 - Hank 91 - 01-09-2017

There's an article on 247 saying that Adebo has been admitted. Any other confirmation of that out there?

For me, it was the culmination of the season.  It's the postseason, the last game.  The last chance for the fans and scouts to see you.  You mentioned how important it was to get to ten wins, it was the 10th win.

I don't find your "If I had to choose" comments particularly meaningful.  Every in-season win is precious, chiefly to get to the best possible post-season win.  And of course, you can't choose and you can't trade.

The Sun Bowl had the third-highest TV ratings of Stanford's season, behind UCLA and Washington, and ahead of all the others.

You have your opinion, I have mine.  But to circle back to the original discussion...I think it was silly of McCaffrey to sit the game out.  The game had a tremendous impact on Thomas' desireability, some sites have him as a Top 10 selection.  That game probably made him two million dollars.  McCaffrey?  We'll see where he goes.  Four different mock drafts including USA Today, the Bleacher Report, SI MMQB and thebiglead.com thinks McCaffrey will go to New England at the end of the first round.  Maybe they know something.  Maybe New England told his agent "Stay out of the game, we'll take you with our first rounder."  Two days ago, Yahoo sports put McCaffrey mid-second round for the Vikings.  Walter Football and Land of 10 both say Ravens, w the #47 pick.

So there's the range.  Last pick of the first round to mid-second round.  We'll see where he falls.

Yep, Adebo was the (only) stealth.

Looks like no Chaz Ah You at Big Visit. Are we still in play for him, or has that ship sailed?

Re: Class of 2017 - MustardtheBallCarrier - 01-09-2017

I think it is entirely fair to question Christian's decision for any number of reasons.

However, to say that he hurt his draft position because of the lost opportunity to perform in the Sun Bowl is, I'm sorry to say, completely ludicrous.  He is a known commodity and was not going to show anything in the Sun Bowl that he hadn't already shown in the hundreds of prior touches.  He was a Voldemort runner-up and set the all-purpose yards record.  He was the best player on successful team for three years.  He's been interviewed and highlighted nationally for multiple seasons.  His profile does not need to be elevated.  I understand the comparison to Solomon Thomas, but it is apples to oranges.

McCaffrey's draft position is a product of RB being devalued in the last decade of the draft and questions about the value of his versatility relative to the fact he doesn't have the size to be an every down back.  He will be drafted based on fit with a particular team and the GM/football ops that most value his versatility.

Unless he switched to defensive back or made a 60-yard field goal, what could he possibly have shown in that game from a football standpoint?  We've already seen him throw touchdowns.

If you think a team will ding him because he made a business decision not to play and that says something about his dedication to his teammates or passion for the game, fair enough.  I think that's B.S., but who knows?
