Eldridge has been promoted to Double AA. He will finish the season with Richmond. Could he make it to SF by the end of 2025?
He may make it to SF by June 1.
He has a very good spring - send him to AAA. Has a good April/May, call him up.

Much like Bart, I think SF should give Schmitt an opportunity to play regularly by trading him. Villar? That ship sailed sometime ago. He is a classic AAAA player.

I'm not even sure that Villar is an AAA player. His stat line, in a hitter's league (the PCL) is .253 .355 .435 .790. He actually has a higher BA at the major league level (.257).
Nice to keep Chapman. Now we just need to hope that Lee, Bailey, Ramos, Fitzpatrick, Wade sustain an equally high level all season long with no injuries, and that McCray, Lee and Yaz can step it up a notch. And hopefully Encarnacion, Luciano, Schmitt, Wisely and Matos mature.
Assuming the Giants lose Snell, Estrada, Canha and Conforto but keep Ray and Yaz (still arbitration-eligible), and no one picks up Taylor Rogers or Flores, their active payroll commitments are $130,333,333, not including 15 pitchers who will probably make $15 mms. to $20 mms. collectively and 12 position players who will probably make $30 mms. I assume $25k for Chapman and $18 mms. on Ha-Seong Kim at 2B, the Giants payroll for next year tops out around $198 mms. Tax threshold is $241 mms. I think we (C. Brown) should go after Soto (Lucy) so the football can be pulled away one more time. But maybe not.

Tough call. Right now, SF is #7, based on a current $170k Spotrac estimate with LA and Philly neck and neck at $236 mms., Yanks at $189 mms., SD at $177 mms. and Atlanta at $172 mms. All those teams are at least 13 games over .500 except the Giants, currently four games under .500. At the other end, no surprise, is the Oakland/Sacto A's at $21 mms. Yes, $21 mms.
My opinion, we didn't get the bang for the buck this year, too many hurt/underperforming/expensive free agents and we're the only one of the top seven that didn't make the playoffs. $2 mils. a win is a good number, $2.2 million a win...not so good.

Maybe Ha-Seong Kim is the high dollar infielder, but he's not having a great year...97 OPS+, though he was a gold glove last year, he's cut way down on his strikeouts, and he has speed (22 SBs so far, 38 last year). His fielding has fallen off a bit...he's -1 Rtot, first time in his career he hasn't been solidly above neutral Rtot. He has 11 errors, fielding .974....worst since his rookie year, although he has a career high for DPs. His range factor has fallen off, he's solidly below league average. At least he can play short and third. He's best as a leadoff hitter, though he typically bats 7th or 8th, and he does well in the 8th slot. I don't really think of Lee as an ideal leadoff hitter, I think of him as more of a #2...why not Kim, then Lee?
I'd take any of the others you mentioned in a second. Soto, too.

According to Ken Rosenthal and a few others, Blake Snell will opt out after the 2024 season. On the one hand, he's had a strong season when he wasn't injured. No-hitter, 15 strikeouts in six innings (first pitcher in 120 years to do that), Giants have won 9 of 11 starts, 1.42 ERA since May 1, best in MLB by 1/2 run.
And yet...he's been on the injured list twice this season. His last start was one inning, two runs. He's only pitched 87 innings, he's 2-3 in 17 starts. We know he likes it in SF, he likes playing for BoMel.
Could he be an early signee, like Chapman? Chapman, I get...durable, terrific player, best fielding third baseman in the game. Snell...probably under "antonym" for durable. He's nearly the best in the business when he's on, but he has only pitched more than 130 innings twice in nine years.
Snell implied that it was in the Giants' court. Maybe they are talking...but Boras has already said he expects Snell to do much better than this past deal.

The Melvin and Zaidi contracts are only guaranteed through 2025, not 2026. I thought it was a three year deal through 2026, but the guarantee is only through next season.

Brewers just took a 1-0 lead in the 7th inning when Doval walked Willy Adames and threw three wild pitches to score Adames. By way of comparison, Logan Webb has thrown two wild pitches in 189 2/3 innings.
Casali's catching...maybe Bailey could have caught one or two of those wild pitches.

Now that the Eastern League season has ended, Eldridge will spend the upcoming week in Sacramento, then it is on to Arizona to play in the Fall League with a focus on improving his defensive skills at 1B.
It certainly appears as though he is on the fast track to SF.
Of course, this leads to a trivia question….
Who was the last Giant to start his MLB career as a 20 year old?

It was my buddy, Ken Henderson. Ken was a terrific guy when I knew him (probably still is, he moved to Philadelphia, last I'd heard). Ken's son and my son played on a few of the same sports teams...
