Fair enough, but I believe Sarell said he plans to spend the next 4 years at Stanford, and that Stanford has been his "dream school since he was a little kid."  To me that has a much different feel than saying he plans to stay 3 or 4 years (with all that implies), but maybe I'm just an old grouch.

Your 17 years old, feeling immortal, a football God at your school, told by the top college coaches in the land that you are destined for stardom and an NFL future, part of a sporting culture that encourages arrogance, sometimes even argues it is necessary for success in your chosen field.  "Full of yourself" is the default position, I think, for this cohort, and true humility and perspective is the exception. Thank god for Stanford and some of the other true "scholar-athlete" institutions, that there are enough exceptions to gather excellent recruiting classes.

By the way, read some articles on Colby Parkinson, and you will find a good dose of football arrogance.  Which, really, is not such a bad thing.  When Brevin Knight brought that same kind of attitude to Stanford basketball, good things happened.

I think the latter paragraph probably more accurately covers things than the first.

Stanford has no shortage of people full of themselves - often justifiably.

I dunno about athletes, but when it comes to regular students I'd say the great ones I knew were universally more humble than you'd expect. I didn't see a ton of braggadocio but when I did it wasn't justified.

This is indeed a great get by Stanford. Additionally, there were numerous commentators and analysts this week who mentioned that Little was in their opinion the most impressive lineman at the Army Bowl practices and drills. Monster recruiting class indeed.

I folded three threads together, and then later Yvonne must have folded that thread into the Class of 2017 thread. Then still later someone started a fourth thread (this one).

If, after three years, the NFL is dangling seven figure (or more) contracts in front of Sarell, he will be gone. We won't hold it against him, just like we aren't holding it against Solly.

Well, sure.  It was just 1/13th of the season, but it was the most important 1/13th.  To put it in terms this board will understand, it's the Deltas giving up after Wormer's visit.  It's Animal House without the Deathmobile, the parade, Flounder's marbles, Stork's marching band leadership, Otter punching out Gregg Marmalard and Bluto riding off in the distance with Mandy.
