I don't think there is such a thing as Stanford's fourth best pitcher.
For most of the season, there were a clear top two pitchers (Williams and Matthews) and a bunch of guys who could be really good or not on any given day.
Bruno has come along great lately, so I might slot him as a clear third best - or second depending on what exactly is happening with Williams. He also probably has the best arm on the staff - in competition with Montgomery.
After that, it's really outing to outing.
Pancer's stuff isn't electric, but he throws strikes and usually doesn't walk guys (despite 5 walks vs. Texas State and UConn). At the moment his WHIP is second on the team (1.19), and ERA fourth (3.26) so maybe he does have a claim to be in the top four.
What are you looking for in Pancer starting?
[He's never gone more than 3 innings this year, so he'd unlikely go a traditional starter's length.]

Perfect Game had Bruno at #37.
Of the 36 ranked ahead of Bruno, it looks like 19 went to the minors (mostly in the top 15) and 17 college.
So not top 5 (at least by that ranking). More guys are going to college these days.

Thanks for this, CT.
Optimally I am looking for a guy who can start a game and get through an opponent's lineup twice giving up two runs or less. Our starters haven't been doing well. I guess since Pancer hasn't been stretched out he can't go many innings, but maybe he could give us two or three innings to start out a game. I'm trusting Esquer here; just floating an idea since it seems we don't have any reliable starters right now.

I don't think it really matters who starts, and I don't think Esquer is counting on anyone to start and throw 100 pitches. He's been masterful in using almost the entire staff to get through the regional and super regional, and I suppose he will continue to mix and match and adjust to each situation. The pitchers who are throwing best right now (e.g. Bruno) will be used in the highest leverage situations, regardless of when they occur.

In case you guys missed this tweet from Troy Clardy a short while ago. Speaks volumes. Go Esquer/Eager!

This is the optimistic take that I will cling to when the CWS starts. A stable of effective no-ego pitchers, each with their own strengths, able to be deployed as necessary against a fairly static opposing lineup...backed by an electric offense. Oh yeah.

I think the optimistic take is that whatever is ailing Alex Williams is temporary and he suddenly returns to the Alex Williams we saw the whole regular season and in the postseasons of 2019 and 2021.
The super-optimistic take is that we also get Dixon pitching like he was the last four weeks of the regular season or Dowd as he was pitching in late April. (This latter one might be close.)

I think you nailed it. Only tweak I'd make is re Dowd. If he can pitch as well as he did as recently as his last appearance (about two innings against UConn) that would be brobdingnagian.

Casual fan here. Is there any sort of test (even eyeball) that the manager/pitching coach can do after his last outing to see if Williams has a sore/tired arm?
Or does Williams basically not do anything after his last outing and Esquer is just hoping he returns to form?

By the way, both Texas a&m and Texas lost today, so the winners bracket is both unseeded teams and the losers bracket features both seeded teams.
We play the early game tomorrow (11 am).

Another telltale sign of arm fatigue is ironically when the changeup speed goes up.

Top one bases loaded and Alex Williams gets the backwards K. Limits the damage to just one run. Is it too early to drink?
