Interesting tidbit from the interview: Williams says we are recruiting him as a 3-4 Defensive END, not DT. If he really is only 6-2, then I'm really surprised by the position switch(if it actually happens) I could see him as a guy who will occupy at least an OT, and maybe both an OT and an OG, and thus free up a LB to rush the QB. But the 6-2 300 lb. numbers seem an ideal build for a DT/NT.

His dimensions aren't far off from Shittu's, who has spent more time as a DE than NT.

His ESPN insider scouting report says he has the range and speed to play DT or DE, but most likely a DE in a 3/4 defense.

He sure seems to play NT in his highlight vid.  Not that Stanford coaches would ever mislead a kid to get his commitment, but I doubt too many kids are excited about playing NT.  That said, I'm sure Williams, like most other guys, will play wherever he can help his team the most.

Not that it matters a great deal, but what's up with Williams being a 3 star and being dropped from the #36 to #41 DT on Rivals?  He dominated the Oakland camp, didn't he?  I thought he might get bumped up, but he actually has gone down in ranking there.


I don't think I've ever seen a 3 star recruit with the offer list Michael Williams has.  FWIW, 247 has him as the #23 DT and composite 4 star and Scout ranks him as the #14 DT and a 4 star.  Safe to assume Rivals will be getting its act together on Williams before long and he'll get bumped to 4 stars?

Williams was coming off a significant injury and missed the entire spring prior to the Oakland camp.  I thought he looked good on the film, too, but the film didn't include reps against the top OLs at the camp, such as Martin and Farniok.  This review seems to indicate he was probably only 3rd best among the DTs at the Oakland camp:

ICYMI, Carlo Kemp is the nephew of Stanford-in-the-NFL coach, Chuck Pagano.  Kemp also reports a 4.0 gpa. Do those 4+ gpas grow on trees these days?  He's joined by Pryts, R. Robinson, Butler, Costello, C. Robinson, and Antoine.

This is strange, but I'm sure it'll be remedied. One thing I've noticed is that Rivals really likes the Stanford recruits. Almost without exception, they rated our 2015 recruits higher than Scout, SI, and 247, sometimes significantly higher. But like you mention, the offer list usually tells you all you really need to know.

There's a run on Crystal Ball prognostications that David Long will commit to Stanford.  Long also has several Stanford-friendly re-tweets today.  All signs continue to point in the right direction.

And the Rincon Tribe and La Jolla Tribe! I'm mostly a lurker here, but somewhat stunned by the references to Pauma and Fallbrook. I grew up in Pauma Valley (and my dad was a social worker with the reservations in the area). As far as I know, i'm still the mile record holder at Fallbrook H.S. Wow, the world is small sometimes.

I think he does play NT now.  My guess is the reason they are recruiting him with an eye towards DE (and probably inside in our Nickel/Dime sets) is that Peek and/or Rand (for whom I think we're still the favorite) might be less able to play outside, and having three DTs in the class would be overkill.  I would also guess if Mike ends up being the best at NT, he might play there.

Also, remember we wind up playing a lot of nickel, in which case the NT leaves the field.  As a DE, if he's good enough, Williams would stay on the field for more plays than as a NT.

I just noticed that 247 lists Lucas Niang (3-star OT from Conn.) as a "target" for Stanford.  He's a mid-range 3-star recruit with a big frame so he might be an option if Hattis goes elsewhere. 

Anyone have info on this guy?  I know there are some well-regarded interior OLs and some undersized OTs who have camped at Stanford, but are there any other legit OT recruits potentially worthy of an offer?

My God, two fellow Fallbrookians!  Who knew?  Actually, it is the Pauma Band of the Pala tribe I was thinking of, both rather chauvinistically classified as "Mission Indians" by the good Friars.  Scandals??? What about the Knott's granddaughter's suicide, the Edwards Paint heir's front yard pig, or the worm composting operation?  (Fallbrookian Gold anyone?) Both of our children graduated from FHS, classes of 89 and 90.  You?
