Stealths have been hit or miss affairs. Some have been brobdingnagian contributors; others, like Nottingham, have not.
Anyone have a list of stealths we've had over the years.

What is your definition of a stealth? I consider Nottingham a flip who did so because of his parents, not because he was a stealth who was waiting on admissions.

There were rumors about a QB who was looking on changing his commitment... that is the very definition of a stealth. The underlying reason for it doesn't matter; it's the fact that we were hearing about someone who was committed to someone else (Tennessee or UCLA, I can't remember which was Nottingham), who was considering coming to us.

On the scary DL recruiting front, Stanford has offered 3 star Rice Commit Zach Abercrumbia.

Don't know if this means the plan A guys are in peril or if this is just an indication Stanford is loading up on DL in 2015.

Interesting profile if accurate -- committed to Rice, but offers from Oregon State, TCU, Wisconsin, Louisville, Vandy? That's not an excellent offer list, but it's not a shabby one either.

11.68 100m so not very likely to be a 4.48 40yd electronically, but certainly within bounds of a handheld 40 time. based on his track numbers, Bailey looks to be a good athlete but not an elite one (sprints or jumps).

The fastest combine time on record for a kicker was SC's David Buehler, who went 4.64. OK, so Jake Bailey is .16 seconds faster than the fastest kicker on record? Sure. Compounding the unlikelihood of Bailey's time is that Buehler only started kicking in college because Pete Carroll had enough freak athletes lounging around to spare. IIRC in high school he was a pretty well-regarded safety, and was recruited as such. So Bailey is faster than a guy who was recruited a legitimate athlete?
Extend the analysis even farther. Looking at the combine record for last year, about 13 guys ran times faster than a 4.48. You can't just extend the analysis and assume that that means about 13 guys matriculate into college football with such times, but it's not obviously hugely off either. (A bunch of factors why and why not: doesn't include small colleges, D-II, etc.; doesn't include perhaps some really good athletes with mediocre football skills; OTOH everyone's training specifically to ace the combine and so don't really run that fast in a football sense, etc.)
Allegedly Bailey is 6'2" 185. So, he's 6'2", 185 and a 4.48 runner? If true, Bailey's almost certainly the best athlete on his team. Hell, one of the best in the country. He'd be a credible NFL draft pick on measurements alone. Why is he being wasted kicking?
You have to assume an awful lot to believe that Bailey is a 4.48 runner. The more likely assumption is that Bailey doesn't run anything close to a 4.48.
Now, to be clear, I don't think this matters all that much. Tall tales are part of sports and they're part of what makes them fun. One of my high school friends went from starting one game and relieving the next to a complete game in the first and relieving the second to starting pitching and completing both halves of a doubleheader in a few short years of reunions. That's just fun. On the other hand, I happen to believe journalists shouldn't peddle highly-unlikely-to-be-true tales without some verification. It's a pretty minor misdemeanor, considering the significance, but still.Â

To be fair to Lombardi (and I can't believe that I'm defending him), he is hardly the first "journalist" to have taken in a questionable 40 time hook, line, and sinker. There's an entire cottage industry in the inflation of questionable metrics, to the point that unless it is electronically timed and unaided, I don't even bother remembering athletes' reported 40 times, no matter who is reporting them.

The Big Kahuna (great movie, btw), 5 star DL Rasheem Green interviewed by Drukarev.
Green says he has "high interest" in Stanford, talks to the coaches a lot, and plans on taking an OV, but does not have a copy of the application yet. Has anyone ever heard of a Stanford football commit who didn't have a copy of the application in November?Â
Can't imagine the coaching staff spending time on a kid who isn't likely to get admitted, this late in the process, so this one is a little bit curious.Â

Green has an offer, but he is not a commit. and it is odd that its November, he's a 5 star offeree and he has no application yet.

Drukarev is reporting an offer to outside linebacker Anree Saint-Amour, a three-star prospect out of Stanford's Georgia pipeline. Saint-Amour says the obvious, that Stanford is his dream school. His offer list is impressive: Michigan State, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and about fifteen more.
