It's kind of a coin flip for me which opposing coach just rubs me the wrong way the most. Pretty much a tie between Mulkey and Geno. And that's with the sound off.

I stumbled upon this great interview with Nneka Ogwumike from 4 months ago. Really interesting to hear her experiences and her take on the Stanford years.
But what really was eye opening was, since we all love the recruiting stories, is that she said around the 13:40 mark Nneka says "I would say, and a lot lot of woman my age have said this too, if Coach Goestenkors hadn't left Duke, we were all going to go to Duke." She also adds that her mom wanted her to go to Baylor.
Really fascinating to think of how that would've impacted Stanford and of course, Gail and Duke.

Nice win by Oregon State over Colorado tonight. I watched most of the game and of course couldn't help rooting for OSU.

The Pac 12 gauntlet is severe. The next three games may be decisive for us. Although we have that road trip to the Oregon schools in the last week. I would not be the least bit surprised if the regular season champ loses at least 2 in conference games.

Surprised? Maybe not. But I'm hoping the regular season champion has only one loss in conference games.
Hehe, which would be the card, since Stanford is now the only team with only one conference loss

Notre Dame is taking down UConn in Storrs. Impressive. UConn looks distinctly mortal. 82-67. UConn just collapsed in the 4th quarter.

Yay! One less win for Gene-O. USB appears to be a serious contender for the title. They still have their best player from last year out. They will be a beast when she returns.

Hidalgo for ND is fearless. She scores 34. Bueckers held in check. Citron had a nice game. ND is talented. They did say Olivia Miles is not coming back this year. I suspect Uconn will lose big at SC. There are not in the elite tier this season. However, the rest of their remaining schedule is not challenging. The weakness of their conference shows when they face tough competition. They would not be running the table in conference if they played in the SEC, Big10, or Pac12.

But with a three-hour time difference and a Pac-12 schedule that would limit her family’s opportunity to take in as many of her games as possible, Citron chose the Irish."

When a recruit we want goes elsewhere, it is not always (or even usually?) about coaching. A lot of the time, it is about family, and performing in front of family. We have been the beneficiaries of that too--Jump and Jones said as much that a big factor in favor of Stanford was playing in front of their families. We got Nneka in spite of family pressure to play closer to home at Baylor. Nivar's return home may have been the same consideration.

This consideration may strike some as irrational, but I remember when I was choosing a college, I applied to Stanford and did not bother with the Ivy league, since I lived out West (in Idaho.) In reality, the culture shock and travel would not have been much different had I gone to the east coast vs. coming to California, but something psychologically felt better about being closer to home. Leaving home for the first time is scary to many 18 year olds, and it is comforting to know that your family will be available if you need them.
This makes what foreign players do, like Bosgana and Papadaki, quite amazing. Smith had a very rough time with the transition, but was much better with it by her junior year.

Just saw that WSU is up 16 on UCLA at the half, at Pauley.
Apparently, Betts is not playing today.
Only 5 fouls called on each team at the half.
Leger-Walker has 15. Murekatete has 13. Both shooting 6/8. WSU is shooting 65.5%, 50% from 3.
UCLA is shooting 43.8% but only 22% from 3
