Stanford's former DL recruit Canton Kaumatule was in Eugene this past weekend. He committed to the Ducks on the spot. He will graduate HS early and enroll in January.Â

FWIW, all three of Reid's 247'updated predictions since this offer are for Stanford. Would probably be pretty cool for the kid to be go to a school out of state in the same place his brother plays in the NFL.
Drukarev also reports OLB commit Casey Toolhill from Tyler Gaffney's school, has been admitted.

It would be another very strong DB class if at least 2 of the Buncom, Edwards, or Meeks group commits in addition to Reid and the already committed Farrar.
I would not think they would target more than 4 DB's in the class after taking 4 last year.

I tend to view new offers in November as a sign that the Plan A recruit is leaning elsewhere for one reason or another.Â
We already have a kicker on board so I don't understand bringing on a second one in the same class, unless maybe there's anticipated attrition among those with remaining eligibility.Â
We also already have offers out to a bunch of highly ranked DBs. Aside from Farrar and the three you mentioned, there have been scattered reports that we had a chance to land Marshall or Taylor. A new offer to Reid at this point suggests to me that things aren't going as expected in DB recruiting.
However, I'm okay with Beall instead of Bailey or Reid instead of Edwards (hypothetically). I just want to see Shaw land Wilkins.

DB recruiting is probably fine. You have to realize Hoffpauir is probably gone, carter is probably gone, Lyons could be gone, Whitfield could move back to WR, and Lloyd won't ever play at DB. They need to bring in 5-6 DBs in this current class. Some may have to start next year. And there haven't been any reports linking Taylor and Marshall to Stanford. Taylor announced his finalists and Marshall never even visited or scheduled an official visit.

Today, he reported that Frank Buncom has been admitted. Yesterday, Buncom said he would wait until after his official to Stanford in January to make his decision. I wonder if today's news will change his timeline.

Not to be pollyanna, but as I've understood it, Farrar, Edwards, Buncom, and Meeks are Stanford locks. There hasn't been another DB that has been in that category, so if they want five, and if there are no options other than Reid, a late offer to him makes sense. Stanford is still trying to land its first ever 5 star CB, so the fact there isn't one lining up for 2015 shouldn't be taken as DB recruiting isn't going well. To the contrary, Stanford has a real shot at landing four 4 star DBs in the 2015 class. Has that ever happened?

I saw a video interview with Jake Bailey, the kicker commit from San Diego. In it, he says Stanford is recruiting him as a punter. This likely explains the walk on kicker. It would be great if there was competition between the two, as it would push them both to improve. Our margin of victories and losses is so small. An excellent kicker or a poor kicker has a big impact on the results.

That's a good point re: potential loss of 3 DBs with remaining eligibility. I was assuming Shaw wouldn't take more than 8 DBs in a two year period. I was just saying there might be a problem if 1 or more of the 4 presumed DB commits had a change of heart.
As for the K/P situation, if Bailey is a punter, then bringing Beall as well makes more sense.
I guess I need to stop with the doom and gloom.Â

We always note how hard it is to get DBs. My thinking is, knowing that, why not prepare a bit in advance and just take whatever good ones are academically eligible? If you can get Farrar, Edwards and Reid all in one class...well, why not? So it may mean nothing more than that.

Bailey is a 5***** kicker as well as a 5***** punter. Five 50yd+ FG's this year. The preferred walk on guy is just insurance.

Regarding DL recruiting, does anyone have an idea about what might be a reasonable expectation in terms of numbers? I would think we need at least three (in light of those graduating and the overall depth), but given the targets I'm not sure that is a reasonable number, which is quite frightening in my opinion...

It seems reasonable to think Donnelly and Wilkins might be realistic, but I've always doubted Green. The trouble is Stanford really needs four DL, and maybe even five.
Parry, Anderson, and Lueders have all exhausted eligibility after this year. Then throw in Nwafor's retirement, and subtract Kuamatule. Three DL would seem to be the minimum, but only Donelly, Wilkins, and Green seem to be even possibilities, and none are committed. Losing Manu and missing on C. Kaumatule were big blows for sure.
At this point the 2015 DL would be something like:
Thomas, Shittu, and Phillips, backed up by Lohn, Yazdi, Watkins and Hayes. Any big bodied True Frosh DL will have a legit opportunity to play right away for Stanford in 2015, so that may in fact help the recruiting pitch a bit for DL.

I like the idea of the stealth recruit so much that sometimes I wish they were all stealth recruits and simply showed up on Signing Day.
