Tucker High School safety Kirk Tucker has de-committed from Stanford after taking an official visit with the Cardinal last weekend. Everybody knows how tough it is to get admitted to Stanford, and he didnt make it, said Tucker coach Brian Lamar, who has been in contact with Ohio State the last few days about Tucker. Ohio State is interested. Were trying to work something out. Hes also interested in going out to the West coast and playing in the Pac-12. Weve contacted U.SC, Oregon and some of those schools like that.

I don't understand the enthusiasm for moving Lyons to safety. Yeah, sure, availability bias and all that, but the depth is scarcely better at corner and Lyons improved (generally speaking) over the course of the season.

It kind of is. Only Stanford recruits, and by extension, fans, have to face this dynamic. Sure there are schools with low standards who have recruits denied by the NCAA clearinghouse, but when that happens, it's pretty easy to accept because you know the kid isn't going to play for any other major college program either.
Other schools have recruits de-commit and go somewhere else because they just felt more comfortable somewhere else or whatever. But no other fan base in the country knows what it is like to have a recruit de-commit who doesn't want to, because he can't qualify for school, even with a 3.0+ GPA, and taking at least two AP classes he doesn't need to go to any other school. Frankly, it sucks.
I wish there was some "second chance" for kids like Kirk Tucker, to prove themselves after being denied admission. So many people are told they can't do things and ultimately prove they absolutely can, especially those in competitive sports.

The service academies have a prep school for kids (mostly athletes) who want to go there , but don't quite have the academic credentials. Maybe Stanford should consider it. (I say this only half-jokingly).

It appears very likely we will lose another committed recruit. Most Stanford recruiting fans will consider it a major loss.
I really cannot add anything. No wiggle room, no tiny clue, nothing. I mention it only because several itchy and antsy posters have suggested that I have promised a total sweep and a shot at the number nine ranked class in Scout. I do think we will sweep the uncommitted guys if each of them is admitted and I think that is more likely than not. But only admissions knows and admissions may not yet know in each player's case.

I was friendly with a locally-grown high school player a few decades back who maybe didn't quite have the academic chops to get into Stanford. His family was well off, he went to one of those tony, recognizable Eastern prep schools for a year, and presto...was admitted to Stanford...and has an undergrad and a master's from Stanford as well. Great player, was all Pac-10,

I totally agree. I felt even worse after seeing that. That's gotta be one of the toughest things. Just a couple days after building a bond with all the other recruits, he loses out on that. Any chance Kirk could still make it once you get the first wave of people turning down Stanford?

Good to see. It is still something special to be invited to Stanford for an official visit. There are 5 star players that would like to visit. You could be Jadeveon Clowney, but if you don't have the grades, you won't be invited. I wish Tucker the best of luck. Hope he thrives wherever he goes and his coaches don't stand in the way of his education.

Terrence Alexander said in a Rivals interview yesterday that Mason was coming to visit him tonight, with news of his admission status. Hopefully the fact Mason won't be showing up won't negatively impact Alexander's affinity for Stanford.
