Coming up after the break. But I guess you already knew that!

Herbig to Stanford!

Re: Class of 2016 - Papa John - 06-25-2015

Per Herbig: "If I didn't commit to Stanford [my grandpa] would break my legs."

Seemed like a really good kid. Happy we got him. "Fear the Tree."

Re: Class of 2016 - socalstanfan1 - 06-25-2015

Also happy that he's a really good kid who kicked a** at the camp, and also apparently had a great showing at one of the other prospect camps just before he came to Stanford.  Without a doubt his rating will improve right away.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-25-2015

Glad to have Herbig on board. Need more tackles too. What about Marcus Tatum. He volunteered that he was interested in Stanford in an interview a few months ago. I know he's got a major distance hurdle, but you never know.

Re: Class of 2016 - OutsiderFan - 06-26-2015

When I look at Herbig's video I can't help but think, "David Parry."  But when I see Michael Williams' video I think "That guy sure looks like a NT to me."

AND...smoked Kal...again - Redrum - 06-26-2015

Supposedly Herbig's other finalist was Washington St., so technically we beat the Cougs and bad news if we couldn't do that.  But Herbig also had a Kal offer and declined.  One could argue maybe Kal needs another kind of OL for their quick-pass offense,  but they offered and once again, a mutual recruit chose Stanford.  So far, head to head w/ the Be.ars
RB  Bisharat
QB Costello
DG Edmonds
OG Herbig
WR Robinson
OT Yarbrough  have all had mutual Stanford/ Kal offers and opted for the good guys.

Or, put another way, checking the 247 recruit database, Kal doesn't have a single recruit win vs. Stanford this year.  OTOH, few of those Kal commits have to sweat out the admissions process like our commits do. I think Bisharat is one close to the edge and it merits some concern.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-26-2015

Has Stanford lost a single recruit to kal in the 2013-2016 classes?  During that time period, I know kal signed Devante Downs, who had a Stanford offer.  I think he was not admissible, but I am not certain.  I do not remember another player who had a Stanford offer (whether or not he was admissible at Stanford) who signed with kal.

Re: Class of 2016 - BobK - 06-26-2015

It has been a rare occurance for at least 10 years.

Re: Class of 2016 - FarmBoy - 06-26-2015

Bryce Tr eggs?

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-26-2015

I stopped at 2013 because there were several kal kids in the class of 2012 who had Stanford offers.  Treggs was certainly one, though I don't know/remember whether he was admissible.  Scarlett was the last clearly admissible recruit I remember losing to kal, which makes the transfer especially fun for gloating purposes.

Now that he's been offered, he is a must get, IMO.

Hattis isn't just a "Must Get" - Redrum - 06-26-2015

He's a "Must Get His Ass in Gear" academically.  A 25 ACT?  and a 3.5 GPA.  Might have waited too long for the motivation bug to strike.  He could probably walk into the UCLA program right now without having to go through all the stress...a point I'm sure the UCLA coaches will stress with him.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-26-2015

25 = 1710, which is the equivalent of 1140 on the two-part SAT.
I think Steve Durrett's heuristic looks at GPA * 300 + SAT.
Under 2200 is unlikely to gain admission.
Over 2300 is likely to gain admission.
2200-2300 is anyone's guess.
Hattis is at 2190 right now, with plenty of time to bring it up.

Edit: For what it's worth, Christian Folau was quoted as saying that the Stanford staff wanted him to get his ACT score up to 25, so that's a pretty good indicator that Hattis' score is okay, especially since there is time for Hattis to improve his score even more.

Re: Class of 2016 - yvonne - 06-28-2015

Chacho Ulloa comes off the board. There's a pretty strong chance he'll play against us. The top three are Arizona State, Michigan State, and Notre Dame.

I don't think we have room for him. We already have commits from 2 DBs, we probably lead for Jordan Fuller and Treyjohn Butler, probably prefer Andrew Pryts, David Long is probably coming in as a DB, and there are others in the mix like Robbie Robinson.
