I've wondered how important it is to win in front of recruits.  On the one hand, they think "I should join a winner" or do they think "If I go there, they would win these games"?

Of course, all top players want to go play for a winner. However, as mercurial as they are, I think it is rare for anyone to make a decision based on one game.

The important note here is that Myles Jack comes from the same school as Branch, so presumably the coach has first hand data to compare.

Well, I believe Jack was lower rated than Kalambayi, in the same class.  Branch doesn't have nearly the recruiting rankings of Jack, but this could be a function of Branch not going to as many camps, etc.  Interesting that this ST story says he is 211, but the Drukarev article quotes him as being 225.

Guys like Doug Randolph and Rex Manu don't show great character when they try to make a decision to de-commit from Stanford look like it was their decision when it wasn't. This is why you root for a kid like Christian Folau, who admits he has a lot of work to do to get into Stanford.  He's not afraid to make it clear the only reason he would de-commit from Stanford is if he is denied admission.  Similarly I'm rooting for Kirk Tucker and Deante Gray, as I'm sure all Stanford fans are.

It's a real shame, because the kid really wanted to go to Stanford. But he's doing the smart thing by re-opening his commitment, before the other schools on his list write him off and look elsewhere.

In light of the discussion on another thread, I wonder if weather is going to be a factor in Buncom's decision (advantage Stanford).  It's really nice in San Diego right now:

The recruiting losses are mounting, and that doesn't include losing Reilly Gibbons or Ikenna Nwafor.

There are now only nine commits for 2015.  Anyone want to handicap the potential class?  I feel less sure of what's going on with Stanford football recruiting this year than any other year I can remember.  Buncom is a Stanford lock, but aside from him it seems like a giant mystery.

Remember a lot of our commits wait until January/February to commit.  We have 9 commits, which is the fewest in the pac-12, however, only 5 teams have more than 12.

Update on prospect Jabiari Tyler from Newman (alma mater of Peyton and Eli Manning).  Versatile, smart, high character player.  Son of former LSU quarterback Herb Tyler.  Coincidentally, Herb Tyler and Terrence Alexander's father were high school teammates.
