Yaz isn’t eligible for FA until 2026. He is going nowhere. SF has to keep the cost-controlled guys to put them in a position to sign FA’s. Given the ages/health status of most of the other guys, Rodon is the most realistic possibility.
Besides as Bob noted, churning players is not the answer…

Slater is having a great season:
* His OBP is .389, good for 9th in all of MLB, if he had enough ABs.
* He's doing the same whether he faces RHPs or LHPs. His lines are:
LHP - .276/.391/.447/.838
RHP - .271/.386/.438/.824
* He's a very good clutch hitter in a variety of circumstances
* He's 5 for 5 on steals, now 36 for 39 lifetime.
* He's 135 on OPS+

After a 2.66 ERA season in 2020 and 2.72 last year, the 7.17 ERA this year stood out in a not-so-good way. WHIP last year was 0.905, now 1.547.
Giants, second worst rTot (cumulative fielding statistics) in MLB at -41. 20th in ERA at 4.07, 19th in WHIP at 1.281. 11th in runs scored, 14th in OPS.

It doesn't matter that the Giants don't have that many trade assets as much as it does that they have two with high value and a couple others who have some.
The Giants trade assets:
Rodon: Would be the most coveted trade deadline player by a lot, IMO
Pedersen: What contender doesn't want an All-Star OF who has 30+ HR power, especially when he can DH
Junis: This one is tricky due to his injury, but is having great season and expected back after AS break, before trade deadline
Leone: He's had two bad outings this year, but otherwise been pretty solid, and quality bullpen arms have great value for contenders
Rodon throwing CG and allowing 1 run against a contending team certainly solidified or maybe even boosted his already high value.

I think they let him do it partly for that reason. Lack of arms in the bullpen is another, but the Giants have sort of enforced a 6 or so inning max, even when it seemed the pitcher had plenty left.

Slater, sadly, might be in that mix. Great on base player, very good hitter, can't stay healthy, will be 30 next year, inexpensive. If SF is selling, he might be going...

I suspect Rodon really wants to listen to all the offers available and will wait until it is "legal" to receive them from other teams. If the Giants offer X dollars today, no matter how big X is there will be the suspicion that somebody else will offer 1.05X. It costs him nothing to wait, except possibly the risk of injury. Why should he sign at this point?

I don’t expect any action until the last couple days before the deadline. Only then will they know whether to buy or sell. If I had to choose, I would lean towards putting them into the buying category. If they can secure a wild card spot, who knows?

19 games. If they stay where they are (2 out in 8th) I suspect they are small Nothing major. And certainly no rental that costs any higher end prospects.
If they get hot and get themselves in the 6th slot, perhaps more aggressive.
But if they go, say 8-11 and are 5 or so out in 8th position, I suspect they will sell.
Staying pat to me is the worst of the three options.
In 2019 a mediocre at best Giants team got hit in July. Gave hope to competing for the WC. Zaidi had Bum and Will Smith as his biggest trade chips. Held on. (He did trade Dyson, I believe). But he was in a tough spot. Bum was an icon. A brobdingnagian fan favorite. And it was the beloved Bochy’s last year. So, they kind of “owed” him a run. Had they dumped, Zaidi who was in his first year, would have been roasted by the fan base. Giants cratered after the deadline.
This year, they faltered prior. Now 29-34 since May 1. Course, you can point to last years Braves. But the Giants don’t have enough chips to make the kind of moves the Braves did.
I think it’s a high pressure time for the players. They know the situation.
It will be, if nothing else, interesting to see how this plays out.

The Padres are a joke. They have had innumerable chances - with what was recently the top farm system in MLB, hefty free agent spending, and trades - to solidify themselves as a threat in the NL over the last three seasons and have yet to do so. They lose 3/4 to the Dodgers, drop 2 at home to the Mariners, and then can't win a 4-game series against a mediocre Giants team at home either.
The Dodgers, Braves, and Mets are the only contenders in the NL. Everyone else is just pretending.
It would be shocking to see Rodon or Pedersen signing an extension with the Giants this season.
