Good lord Cardboarders most of you are typing like surrender monkeys.

Have you learned NOTHING from this rivalry over the past decade?  Anything can happen and it often does.  USC is the better team on paper, no doubt.  They were also the better team on paper in 2007 & 2012.  Stanford was the better team on paper in 2013 and 2014.  That's almost half of the games in the last decade, including each of the last three.

I'm not saying that Stanford is going to win, but as I scroll through this thread it reads quite painfully - I wonder if many of you will even watch the game.  Will I be the only one at the Goose tomorrow wearing my Biggest.Upset.Ever t-shirt and my red & white kola nuts

You guys should know better - anything can happen in this rivalry and it often does.

If it helps, I'll be a few (thousand) miles away wearing my Biggest.Upset.Ever t-shirt and red and white kukui nut lei. Because ya never know. That's why they play the game.  8)

So perhaps we do get some respect after all...

Actually, it seems 4 of 7 picked us to cover the spread (i.e. won't lose by more than 10.5. this includes winning). But that's ok, I'll pick us, straight up.  8)

Actually, it would seem to me that the most common posts match exactly what you say. The post says something about how much better $C is, then predicts Stanford to win.

One poster you should take issue with, however, is me. I said Stanford really ought to be almost as good as $C but predicted we'd lose a close game. Obviously not a rooting choice, just a prediction.

*****
Grammarians - I think I remember that in using the verb "to be", "I" is the correct form either before or after. Thus, it would seem my phrase above would be, "the poster you should take issue with is I". However, that somehow sounds excessivly pretentious.
What's correct?

Feel free to explain this to those that don't fall into this category.  I am just a Stanford fanboy by geographical upbringing enjoying the cronyism the Cardboard affords me.

I think we can win this game, but that assumes a much-improved level of play (particularly on offense) than we have demonstrated in the first two games.

Will we get it? Stay tuned.

I remember this podcast from a few months ago.  In it, Megan McArdle talks about tweaks you can do to improve your life.  In it, she discusses betting against yourself (basically, hedging), and she brings up betting against your team:

Quote:MEGAN MCARDLE: Well, I think sports is probably the best example and this is going to make me unpopular, but look, if you really love your team, you know, lay a little bet on the team on the other side.

GOLDSTEIN: If, for example, you're a fan of San Diego Padres, bet against the Padres, just a little, just enough to take the edge off if things don't go your way.

MCARDLE: Then when something bad happens, you've got that little psychological backstop, you know, like, I won money. Everyone loves winning money.

So, that's my strategy.  I'm going to bet* against Stanford and hope I lose the bet.

U$€ 27, Stanford 13

* No actual money, just in the picks.

Never been so happy to be so wrong on the picks... ever.

Desmond Howard (I may have a man crush on him) picked us on Game Day, to universal laughter.  He said hey!  I picked them for the Natty I can't back down now.

Don't take it too hard, my friend.  Remember that you don't have to put the results on your resume.  Plus, it's a long season and we're all subject to over-reactions and swings of emotion.  Also, I'm really just trying to comfort myself for what I know is probably looming in the future.  :D

As the video points out, there aren't any rules in a knife fight.  And our weekly picks can get a little like a knife fight sometimes.

But then I never go to the others bulletin board that shall remain unnamed, so what do I know about knife fights?

Anyone who didn't predict a Cardinal win is so far beyond wimphood in the wrong direction that there isn't even the possibility of a word being invented for that.
