The most amusing thing in this article is providing the following names as examples of great QBs from California: Barkley, Clausen, Sanchez, and Wright.  Rather than say Brady, Rodgers, and Kaepernick.  OK Barkley still has a chance, but I doubt it.

The other interesting QB mentioned is Kevin Dillman who was hyped in a SI article a year ago.  I had figured him for a Stanford prospect eventually.  Impressive offer list with heavy concentration of Pac-12 schools.  We may see him across the field.  Hopefully on his back courtesy of Mr. Phillips of Nebraska.

Brady was, he went to Michigan. Rodgers went to Junior College and Kap's only offer was Reno

Arrington Farrar is set to make his commitment on August 16th and after reviewing his twitter, it seems his top two choices are Vandy and Stanford.

He recently gave a "Ask me a question" (http://ask.fm/amadeotheking) and this question/answer seemed most promising.

Q: Best final two ever. Is there one factor that will be the most important factor in deciding between the two, and if so, what is that factor?
A: Academics

We have had great success with players from his school, Woodward Academy, having signed players like Julius Jenkins, Henry Anderson, and Jordan Watkins to name a few. Hope to keep that pipeline strong!

After reading that Farrar story by Drukarev (who is KILLING it on his recruiting coverage), I'm gonna say he's committed to Vandy.  Anyone who wants to compare Vandy as an par with Stanford academically or on the football field is convincing himself or trying to convince others Vandy is as good a choice as Stanford.  Throw in the bit about the Vandy coaches, and it's a clincher for me.

Vandy may be the best choice for Farrar, in terms of comfort level, etc., but Vandy doesn't stack up to Stanford academically or on the gridiron.  Its achivements are solid and it's surely a very good school, but to suggest it is on par with Stanford on these scores is just silly.

My guess is he likes the Stanford academics/athletics combination, but just doesn't want to go that far from home, so he is trying to convince himself a closer school is just as good.

Distance is definitely a factor for many kids here in the Southeast. It certainly was for the local HS kid here in Tallahassee (his coach played HS football with my sons) who was offered by Stanford but just chose FSU.

Funny how distance is never seems a factor for USC recruits from the east coast.  It's like something other than the school itself has a pull on 17 and 18 YOs.  I wonder what that could be?

I haven't read the piece, so I obviously don't have much to work with, but I would take anything a recruit says with a serious healing of salt. Why say publicly that one school is inferior to the other in any way?  Why take any chance at creating hard feelings at all, when this most politic, and painless, thing to say is both programs are equal? He may in fact have chosen Vandy for all the reasons an 17 year old might: proximity to home, comfort level, etc. But he may say all the things about the equality of the institutions just because, at this stage of the process, that's what many kids do. If he does pick Stanford (didn't Harrison Phillips supposedly have a great relationship with the coaches?), we may hear him turn around and say that Stanford's academics were the deciding factor.

I didn't read the article about Arrington Farrar, but I glanced at his Twitter after I saw your comments.  Twitter accounts of teenagers might offer few clues, but follows and favorites are a quick way to get an idea about which program might be leading.  Farrar follows half the Stanford football team, it seems, and recently added TedX Stanford.  He favorited another recruit's comment about a Stanford coach: "Russell Ude ‏@chief_50 14h
coach kotulski and coach wilson r great dudes #Stanford #UGA."  He also favorited an incoming freshman's comment about Stanford weather: "Alex Robinson ‏@arobkicker 20 Jul Excited for some #Stanford weather."

True but the rumor was Randolph flipped because the coaching staff advised him to look at other schools. Doing so allowed him to secure a spot at ND before they ran out of room. They took a bunch of LBs last year although they lost Mattingly to Oregon and Anzalone dropped them last second for Florida.

a recent piece on Hoge.  as of now, it looks to be a USB and Stanford race for his services.  after Tillery's early commitment elsewhere, it would be nice to secure Hoge.

Buncum has been on our radar for a while, and he participated in Stanford's Friday Night Lights event a few days ago.  he graded out in top 5 (?) at the recent Nike Oakland event.

Tristen Hoge was at Friday Night Lights and was one of the best (if not the best) O linemen there. It's understandable why so many top programs are after his commitment. Here is a free Rivals article with video of Friday Night Lights drills.
