They’ve never required tickets in the past, but, of course, these days it’s all about the $$$$, so, who knows…

Stanford was solid. All 5 players were under par until Andrea Revuelta finished bogey-bogey to shoot even par 71 (which was Stanford's drop score).
The good story from today's round was the lead score of 68 by Megha Ganne. She missed a few tournaments during the spring season and then struggled at the ANWA, missing the cut by 8 shots. We don't know if she was dealing with injury, illness, something else, none of these. But it was good to see her game return today.
Both Ganne and Kelly Xu are seniors who are playing their final tournament at Stanford as Stanford golfers. I imagine that it will be an emotional experience for them and for Coach Walker. Ganne and Xu are players we have watched grow up during their 4 year careers. Their roles have changed from freshman contributors on a team led by Rose Zhang to senior leaders themselves. They have been on teams that finished 3rd, 1st and 2nd at NCAAs. You cannot really ask for more from these two players in terms of their play and leadership. Now they have a chance one more time to lead Stanford to a title, first regionals playing at home, then down the California coast to La Costa. Let's hope for the happy fairy tale ending.

Oregon State is the team ranked lowest (#50) among the 9 ranked teams competing in our regional, yet they finished the first round with a strong second, 4 behind us and 4 ahead of the 3rd place team. OSU played at Stanford Golf Course each of the past 3 years (and of course many times before that). I wonder if their familiarity with the course gave them a tangible advantage over the other teams?

Pepperdine, ASU and Arizona played in the Stanford Invitational tournament back in the fall. But OSU did not. Let's see if OSU can keep it going over the next 2 rounds. They will be in the spotlight tomorrow playing with Stanford and Pepperdine.
BTW, the individual leader is Emma Bunch from New Mexico State who is playing as an individual. She shot 64!!

For the individual title, Martin Sampedro is 2 behind the leader from yesterday who still has 5 holes left to play, and 1 behind a Pepperdine player who was 9 under for the day until she bogeyed 17 and had to "settle" for an 8-under 63. Revuelta is 1 behind Martin Sampedro, and Ortengren and Xu are 1 behind Revuelta.

Stanford set a school record yesterday for a team score on the Stanford course with -17 total of 267. They came up one shot shy of that record today with -16, 268. But there still was drama. Andrea Revuelta was in the bunker on 18 green with a one shot lead in the individual race. She holed out for a birdie and 2 stroke victory. What can you say except on to nationals! The NCAA tournament starts Friday, May 22.
The only real news of note from the other regionals is that #8 Oregon did not advance. And Kiara Romero from Oregon, the #1 ranked amateur in the world, did not qualify as an individual either. She finished one shot out.
