Close notes that Betts is due back this season. Osborne noted that "it was embarrassing playing out there." Close was really disappointed, not in the loss, but in the "character" of her team. "I've had losses where I was proud" but this was not one of those nights. "This was unacceptable in a Bruin uniform."

Close trying to get Stanford to schedule a non conference home and home series with them starting next year. They would not be a team I would prioritize putting on the non-conference schedule. Will see if it happens.
Agree. We probably want to do some sort of game in So Cal for recruiting, but I wouldn’t want to play either of the schools that blew up the PAC-12.
In total agreement, don't schedule the four schools that split for the big 10, they did in the PAC 12. It is because of Tara and Stanford that women's basketball is as strong as it is in the PAC 12. If there is a decision to play any of those schools, Stanford should charge two arms and two legs each, and let Cal, WSU and OSU in on the action if they so desire to play those schools.

Cory Close and her team didn't choose to leave the P12. Decisions on scheduling WBB should not include punishing the P12 traitor schools. Scheduling decisions should only be about what is best for Stanford WBB.

I repeat my earlier forecast. After a few games in MI, WI, MN in February the transfer portal will not be big enough to accomodate those leaving the two LA schools. I lived in that region until I started high school near St. Louis. Winters there were positively balmy by comparison.

Yeah, but basketball is played indoors.
I can see just the opposite happening, where kids are attracted to the L.A. schools for football and basketball. You get sunny skies year round and still get to compete in the B1G.

You gotta get into town, then to the court. I promise those trips will be … unpleasant.

(I was out of town on Sunday so I'm just getting through the video of the game. I watched most of it in an environment where I couldn't have the sound on. But, in this last bit of the game, I am wishing these announcers would move to SEC pickle ball.)
I rather doubt it, but I hope Close's statement about unacceptable was about the last few minutes when the refs let UCLA actions go.
Regarding the 10-second violation at Q4 2:00, the shot clock on ESPN's banner at the bottom was not synced to the shot clock visible in the frame. By the TV clock, the shot clock ticked to 20 in the same frame as the ball was on the floor in the forecourt. But that clock was slow. There was something funky in the way ESPN's clocks ticked. It appears ESPN's shot clock started 2 seconds late and tried to catch up. Gads, don't the NCAA and the TV networks have an interface so the official time can be shown???
Let's see, on that play, the UCLA defender touched Lepolo with each hand early in the dribble, and then used an arm bar toward the end. By rule, that's two fouls. This play was sandwiched by plays in which UCLA was allowed to push the Stanford ball handler out of bounds.
Regarding Dronin' Mowins' comment about a possible technical foul since only one shot clock was working, that is possible but uncertain. The forward of the rule book indicates certain administrative issues can be waived by agreement, and certain other administrative issues cannot be waived. The shot clock rule is in neither list. I've seen those fail so many times in multiple sports, I kinda think it is good to not penalize for it.

The players were fully aware of the shot clock being on the floor

I felt at the time that they should have turned off the other shot clock over the basket and put it on the floor too, so that both teams had equal treatment. Rotating by quarter certainly "equalized" in a sense but it was jarring as a fan to be able to see the shot clock at one end and not at all on the other. From my seat I could not see the clock on the floor.

I just noticed that Betts played 26 minutes for UCLA in their game against Arizona Friday night. She was 2/6 with 9 rebounds and 4 fouls. Anyone see the game? Did the announcers say anything about her come back, her health, etc?

She didn't start. Don't recall if she didn't come in till second quarter. Announcers kept waiting for her to appear. Repeated she was out for undisclosed medical reason..She patrolled the paint, for sure, but seemed slower.

See the WBB 2023-24 thread for more comments re all this -- more appropriate place. At any rate, totally agree, the game is Corvallis is going to be tough. OSU has a lot to play for, and it might even be the Conference championship

Just finished watching Notre Dame beat Florida State in 2 OT's. All I can say is it would be nice to have Hannah Hildago.

Of course, but that's unrealistic.
Not unrealistic to think we might have got Hannah or Juju.

Just having either Hidalgo or JuJu in our lineup would put us up there with South Carolina as the favorites. Look at what Tara has done with our current lineup and then imagine adding a versatile scoring threat, like Hidalgo or Watkins in there as well, so that teams can't pack the paint to defend Brink and Kiki or just focus their perimeter defense on Jump only.
