Hoping at the very least, the seeds hold and Stanford, Utah and UCLA advance to the round of 16. Would be great if Colorado or Arizona could pull off the upset, I'm sure they will give their opponents a fight.

The real test is how things go tomorrow and Monday, how many get into the sweet sixteen. I hope it's all 5 that are playing in the 2nd round!
I get the sentiment, and I know it is better for Stanford if our league does well.  But I have reservations about cheering on Colorado, UCLA, or Arizona.  UCLA is a traitor school, and I feel committed to hoping that they and USC lose all their games in all their sports for eternity.  Colorado....well Colorado is coached by JR Payne, and I detest her style of play.  (On the other hand, they could do us a favor and knock Duke and Iowa out of the tournament, assuming we get by Ole Miss and Texas--a big assumption.) I liked Arizona when they played us for a national championship, and respected Adia Barnes.  But then she seemingly weeded out her players (7 players transferred out) and I found that disturbing.  So I am not very enthused about any of the remaining Pac XX schools other than ourselves, and possibly Utah.  I would have gladly cheered for WSU.

I'm with you emotionally in everything you say, but I do want the Pac12 overall to do well to show up the SEC and Big10. That's my main motivation here, and yes, I find it difficult to be for UCLA and Colorado in particular. As for Arizona, I have wondered what's going on there with the transfers, made me have doubts about Barnes.

Creme has now reseeded the tournament. He now has Stanford as the #2 #1, moved UConn up to the #3 #1. He's reseeded Virginia Tech to the second #2 behind Iowa. As for Ole Miss, he now regards them as a #6.

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - OCcardinal - 03-19-2023

Here's the updated conference comparison after Sunday:

The SEC has outshown all other conferences by far and was clearly underseeded in the tournament.  Not only 7 wins, but 2 upsets (an 11 seed and a 10 seed). (Let's hope they are done with the upsets!)  Their only loss was 10-seed Alabama's 4 point loss to Baylor. I don't understand why the committee gave the 4th best team in the SEC (Ole Miss) an 8-seed, but hopefully we'll still take care of business today.  Today's game vs Ole Miss is more like a Sweet 16 matchup, but with home court advantage.

The Big 10 and the Pac 12 have performed about the same but neither has really proved anything yet. If seeds hold the Big 10 will have 4 teams in the Sweet 16 and the Pac 12 will have 3 (I'm really hoping for 4).

The ACC has been okay. 6 wins plus they did get one upset (but it was a 9 over an 8, while they had two 7 seeds lose).

The Big 12 has 3 teams left but only 1 (Texas) is favored in round 2.

The Big East is down to UConn and Villanova.  Villanova gets quirky FGCU in round 2, so who knows how that matchup will end up.

Notably, there were four conferences where the regular season champ didn't win the conference tournament. Big 12 Tournament Champ Iowa State and Pac 12 Tournament Champ Washington State were both upset in the 1st round this year. Virginia Tech and Iowa are the other two conference tournament champs that didn't win their conference. Will either make the Elite 8? (History does not bode well for surprise conference tournament champions. Last season Kentucky lost in the 1st round and Iowa lost in the 2nd.)

What the heck is up with this? Sure, speculating for 11 months as to what the seeding committee will decide is fun, but what is the point of this crazy reseeding? If Creme is bored, there are loads of games to watch, or, heck, he can come clean my house since little gets done during this weekend.

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - PVTree - 03-19-2023

Watching Iowa-Georgia. So far, the only impressive part of Iowa's game is their accurate 3-point shooting. They are outstanding at that. Otherwise, they have had trouble pounding it inside, they turn it over frequently, and they are average defenders.

They also don't seem to have that much height besides their 6'3" center. They like to run but don't seem to have a jet-quick player that typically burns us. Georgia is outhustling them, and the game is up in the air.

Clark is an awesome player, but Georgia is keeping her in check so far (41-40 Iowa halftime lead). She has Carry Jacobsen range taking very, very long three pointers, making 1 of 2 so far. Clark is a complainer, arguing every call against her with the refs.

Overall, I'm feeling better if we meet up with them down the road.

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - Hoops9092 - 03-19-2023

Georgia hanging in there with Iowa, which is good to see. Iowa certainly doesn't look unbeatable.

Iowa up 58-56 with 8 minutes to go.

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - BostonCard - 03-19-2023

70-66 with about 15 seconds to go.  Iowa looks like they will move on.

I haven't watched, because I'm at work.  But I glanced at the box score and the minutes played by Iowa's starters is:
39, 38, 38, 37, 37.  I know that benches shrink come tournament time, but jeez.

Some on this Board would be calling for an ethics complaint to be filed…

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - PVTree - 03-19-2023

Georgia turned it over 3 straight times with under two minutes and trailing by 2. That is not going to get it done, and they get to go home now.

I remain with the sense that the main thing to fear about Iowa is their terrific three point shooting. Everything else seems in the norm of good teams. Iowa does seem to have many careless turnovers. Not sure if it was the Georgia defense or an usual Iowa game.

Arizona up 33-32 over Maryland at the half!

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - 82 Card - 03-19-2023

After playing well in the first half, Arizona laid an egg in 3d quarter. Down 19 at end of 3d.

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - Card Fan in OR - 03-19-2023

I was certainly rooting for Georgia to take down Iowa--at least until the last minute or so of the game. Three straight turnovers surely saps one's enthusiasm, but the two flagrant (Is that the right designation?) fouls by GA were completely unacceptable. I almost, maybe, possibly (but probably not) could overlook the first one, but it did look like an intentional face hit to me. The second was a very clear and forceful shove to Caitlin Clark's back, knocking her down. I don't know what they ought to be or how to be levied, but I believe their should be sanctions for that kind of behavior.

On the plus side, Iowa did not look unbeatable to me. I have really been fearing them.

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - old spanish trail - 03-19-2023

I fear Miss more than Iowa.

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - bl82 - 03-19-2023

Maryland is not a team I think we match up well against

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - BosCard - 03-19-2023

We can only meet Maryland if we make the final four and some team (presumably Maryland has beaten South Carolina).  I would take that.

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - martyup - 03-19-2023

LSU just makes it so difficult to like them.

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - OCcardinal - 03-20-2023

Aside from being a tough matchup for Stanford, Ole Miss is just a good team.  I'm baffled why the Committee gave them an 8 seed.  Ole Miss was the 4th place team in the SEC (which is 10-3 in the tournament so far), lost by only 2 to Utah, and took South Carolina to overtime.  Of the 16 favorites in round 2, Stanford had the 4th toughest matchup per the net ranking:

Favored Seed Opponent (NET) Result

Texas 4 Louisville (20) TBD
Ohio St 3 N. Carolina (21) TBD
Duke 3 Colorado (23) TBD
Stanford 1 Ole Miss (25) L
LSU 2 Michigan (26) W
Maryland 2 Arizona (27) W
UCONN 2 Baylor (32) TBD
Iowa 2 Georgia 33 (W) TBD
VA Tech 1 S. Dakota St. (34) W
S. Carolina 1 USF (35) W
Villanova 4 FGCU (36) TBD
UCLA 4 Oklahoma (38) TBD
Notre Dame 3 Miss State (39) W
Utah 2 Princeton (40) W
Indiana 1 Miami (50) TBD
Tennessee 4 Toledo (67) TBD

RE: WBB: the NCAA tournament - martyup - 03-20-2023

Well, #1 Indiana just got beat by #9 Miami.  Great ending.
