Hannah!" as Haley got the ball near the baseline with 2 seconds left and threw up a long shot.)
Would love a hybrid of Hannah Jump's shooting with Haley Jones size, athleticism, and playmaking capabilities.
On Jones' defense, given the emphasis that VanDerveer places on defense, I have to wonder whether what looks like breakdowns by Jones are by design.

Isn’t it a trade off with Haley’s defense?
She plays off her assignment and gives the offensive player plenty of opportunities. But she also, because of it, is good on help defense. And significantly she has unusual rebounding numbers for a 6’1” player.
Either she is a poor defender or this is by design.

On re-watching the game, it appears that our switching D is a man-zone combo. Jones frequently looks like she's playing an area rather than a specific opposing player.
There is no arguing that our defense has been highly successful. Tara seems to be dialing it in to match our personnel. My guess is that the bench players that are pulled quickly, sometimes after just a minute or two, are not executing the defense Tara wants to play.

Shooting a mid-range jump shot off the dribble is hard because you need 1) good shooting ability and 2) good body control to stop and go straight up and not let your momentum cause you to drift. Jones needs some of Jump’s shooting ability and Jump needs some of Jones’ body control. Standing mid-range jumpers are easier because it’s sort of like a free throw. I’m glad Brink is taking them (even though they aren’t going in as often as we would like) because that is the shot elite defenses will give her and we need her to make them to win a Final Four/National championship. Similarly, Boston probably has to make some of them for South Carolina and Edwards for UConn.

Brink is the new "Queen of Swat", now averaging 3.8 blocks per game; number 1 in the country. Flowers (from mid-major St. Louis, I believe) is down to 3.7. Hail to the new Queen. Or do you prefer "the Eraser"?

Our two wins this weekend, along with Ohio State's swandive into an empty pool, has us back to #2 in the AP. LSU and Indiana round out the top four. UConn is 5. Utah up to 7. UCLA drops to 14, Arizona drops to 22. USC at 28 and on the rise.

I don't think it is good for us for the top ranked conference teams to drop games and drop on the rankings. Better we have wins over top 10 or top 15 teams than a bunch of lower ranked teams.

Indiana is 19-1 with some signature wins. They are poised to be a 1 seed.

2nd request for no politics. it becomes very hard to stand by silently. yes, there is wokeness from the left. but it's mostly the conservatives who act from the state house to ban courses and books. cf florida.
You request no politics and then make a blatantly political comment.

Please don't escalate the politics while asking for no politics.
Gosh, folks, can't we just get along?

yes, i made a blatantly political counter-argument. and i stated why. to repeat:
if folks are going to trash liberal wokeness
after being asked nicely (not by me) not to be political, i reserve the right to balance the argument.
i notice that folks challenge me for escalating while saying nothing to MV72018 for ignoring the request to stay apolitical.
i do not wish to collude with the position that the right gets to play dirty and the left has to behave.

"...one of the changes we've made is moving Haley back to the 4 where she played for 3 years, and how people are playing us it allows us to play smaller, so that does impact all of our posts' rotation time. There is a long post line, and there are games when we will play 2 true posts, but we've made some adjustments and are playing smaller and faster."
"There could be games when Lauren Betts is out there with Cam, but the way they are playing us, so soft on people, that when Brook came in and knocked down her shot, Elena hit her shot, Agnes hit her shot, Talana hit her shot...we have to go with what the other team is basically saying to us."
"Have Agnes make a three, having Elena make a three, if I'm Cam I'm getting them a Chipotle or something...keep shooting those threes, Talana...rewarding your shooters because that opens it up for you inside. Otherwise they are just camped on top of Cam."
Cam should not have to buy breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even a snack for anyone on the perimeter with the same Stanford scholarship that she has just because that player finally made a “completely unguarded” perimeter shot. There were not even defenders running out to contest Agnes or Lepolo. That’s the problem in a nutshell with the current “thinking.” There is no expectation that these players should be able to make open shots at a high clip, and if they do they should be rewarded.
Cam should be treated to breakfast, lunch and dinner every day by every single player on the team for what she does for each of them on offense and defense. You don’t just rack up 10 blocks a game because your perimeter defenders + Haley are elite defenders. It is in fact the exact opposite. And Agnes and Lepolo (and Hannah) don’t even help defensive rebound consistently which is a component of defense.

Uh, I think it was a joke, not a serious suggestion. The coaches keep saying they want those players to take and make shots. Dang, this is all getting way too serious and angry (general observation, not specific to this one post to which I am replying).

I do hope you watched the presser and saw the element of humor in that answer. Tara is trying to encourage all the perimeter players to shoot the ball when they are open since she knows that they are excellent shooters in practice and they obviously need to gain in-game confidence so their shots will fall when taken under stress. It was a lighthearted moment between Tara and Cam about doing everything possible to encourage her teammates to heat up the outside game with the knowledge that it will make Cam's job easier.

She did check video review once, but besides that I barely noticed her. During a couple timeouts she was talking and joking with a couple people sitting near the TV announcers. I wonder who she was talking to?
