Hey all.
Long overdue, but getting around to updating the personnel list. Did offense first.
Changes:
- Removed senior fullback Reagan Williams (transferred to Rice). Houston Heimuli now marked as starter.
- Removed senior center Brian Chaffin (tranferred to Rice). Drew Dalman remains marked as starter.
- Added freshman walk-on wide receiver Diego Preciado.
- Moved freshman walk-on Wakely Lush from tight end to tackle. (Note: That's interesting. Coaches must have decided he's a better fit there.)
Scholarship and walk-on numbers adjusted accordingly.
Will update defensive side anon.

As of yesterday Williams was in the portal not a transfer. So is this new news ?

Perhaps I am jumping the gun, Bob. I had figured that Reagan to Bloomgren was all but a done deal; I do not believe he has officially been admitted there, so maybe I am counting chickens...

Defensive/ST changes:
- Removed rising sophomore walk-on long snapper Jack Chapman; retired, I presume. He was actually more highly rated out of high school than Kyle Petrucci, so I have to believe that the coaching staff is recruiting a replacement for senior-to-be Richard McNitzky.
- Moved freshman Aeneas DiCosmo from outside to inside linebacker. We do indeed have a bunch of OLB and not enough ILB. Was hoping we'd move one of the frosh OLB to DE, however.
- Moved rising sophomore Andres Fox from defensive end to outside linebacker. A bit surprised here given our depth at OLB and Andres's play at DE toward the end of last year, not to mention Shaw's praise of his play. I guess they believe he can be a difference-maker there.
I saw that they are planning on moving Curtis Robinson to ILB; he's still listed as OLB on the official roster. I'll make the appropriate changes here when they make any and all roster switches with spring ball.

If you could list someone as EDGE on a college roster, that's what he'd be. 6'4" 240 is already pretty damn close to ideal edge-rusher size at the next level. I'm hoping Tobe Umerah can develop into something similar.
Pakola to DE seems necessary now. Dude's already 6'3" 270.

The amazing thing about this chart is to see how few players we have in their 4th year of eligiblity. Toohill, Beecher, Scarlett and McNitzky. That is absolutely crazy. Is that unprecedented? Parkinson, Little, Costello are all prospects to go pro early and a bunch of 4th year juniors may not return for a 5th year, but you can kind of see why Shaw has some unallocated scholarships going into the next recruiting class.

Donkey687, Toohill, Beecher and Scarlett will be 5th year seniors next year. Here are the number of 5th year seniors on the roster in recent history as a point of comparison.
2019 - 3
2018 - 10
2017 - 6
2016 - unknown (roster on GoStanford excludes class information)
2015 - 10
2014 - 13
2013 - 9
2012 - 4
In general, I think that the team benefits from the experience and leadership of 5th year seniors. We'll see going forward if the big dip in 2019 is an anomaly or a trend.

2016's 5th-year seniors were guys from the insane recruiting class of 2012, and there were 10: Davis, Rector, Hoffpauir (technically), Lloyd, Jones, Ukropina, Caspers, Watkins, Harrell, Kaumatule. Aziz Shittu should've made 11, and I'm still mad his waiver was denied.

Yes, of course. But we are talking about a potential replacement for McNitzky, who I'm pretty sure will still be around in 2019.

Two more changes.
- Rising senior Curtis Robinson is now officially an ILB.
- Rising sophomore walk-on Jake Lynch is now an ILB, too. Way fewer bodies in front of him for PT there. Seems his body type is suited for ILB as well. Hope he hits like his dad.
I have zero idea who the starters at ILB will be once the season starts; it might be Robinson and Ricky Miezan. But for now, I will keep it demarcated as Andrew Pryts and Ryan Beecher since they are the ranking returners at the position.

One change:
Switched rising senior CB
J.J. Parson from walk-on to scholarship player. Overall numbers adjusted accordingly.
Congratulations, J.J.!

Hey Langdude...
Based on the following email (
http://cardinal.gostanford.com/nl/jsp/m.jsp?c=%40ab96rsfx5iUHFrZ9kM4n2q3LLtZ0vVblgqnAYHFO5lU%3D), it looks like Eboh may have the inside track to being the starter at CB opposite Adebo:
Quote:A year after cornerback Paulson Adebo became the breakout story of Stanford’s 2018 spring practices (and followed up with a school-record and FBS-leading 24 passes defended in the fall), his new starting position mate may have been solidified by a breakout 2019 spring. Junior Obi Eboh finished his spring with a strong performance in the Cardinal and White Spring Game, showing fans why he has earned the inside track for the starting cornerback position opposite Adebo. Obi is a conscientious technician of the game, and he is playing faster and more confidently, allowing his athleticism to show up.
Also, I wonder if it makes sense to pencil Curtis Robinson in as one of the ILB's:
Quote:One of the biggest unknowns for Stanford this offseason is the replacement of four senior inside linebackers who have graduated this year. Junior Curtis Robinson took a big step forward for himself and for the Cardinal defense, after he switched from outside linebacker. Curtis has a high football IQ and is proving to be a quick study at his new position. Curtis looks quite promising, and after the redshirt year he took in 2018, he has two seasons still ahead to play. Two true freshmen also piqued our attention in the spring: Ricky Miezan and Jacob Mangum-Farrar. Both demonstrated their exciting athletic abilities and showed us flashes of their playmaking ability. Look for all three of these new ILBs to progress and compete intensely into the fall.
"Looks promising" is not as definitive as the accolades given Eboh, but the tea leaves are probably favorable for him and/or one of the two RS freshmen to go in front of Pryts/Beecher.
Lots of other good stuff in the e-mail, but much less suggestive of a change in starters.

Our corners might be Eboh and Adebo. Catchy.
RE: 2019 Stanford Football Personnel -

Thanks for the heads-up on this, BC.
Yes; marking starters for next year is all about tea leaves at this point. It's easy when a past starter returns. When it is an open position, then you have to look at if any returning players had any starts. Then, if none did, it is a subjective call. Both Kendall Williamson and Obi Eboh started one game last season. I'd been thinking that Williamson played more than Eboh last year, but I could be wrong on that score. Eboh had slightly better stats. Given the quote you reference, I agree with you that Eboh looks to be penciled in. I'll make the switch. Williamson will likely be the nickel back and will see lots of PT.
ILB is a hot mess. I actually do think marking Curtis Robinson as a starter make sense; they did not switch him to not play. Two years ago, IIRC, he was a larger contributor on defense than either Andrew Pryts or Ryan Beecher were last year, though admittedly at a different position. Robinson has two years of eligibility left; he thankfully regained his redshirt last year. (It was a mistake to burn it frosh year, IMO.) Maybe the future of the position will be Ricky Miezan and JMF, but I'll wager Robinson will be starting game one in 2019. The question is who will start with him at ILB. Will one of the sophs? Maybe so. For now, not enough evidence. I'll keep it Beecher for now since he has the most seniority.
