I'd prefer if KSU does so.

Good point. But on the other hand, I still expect Cal to be a bottom half of the conference team. If they beat the B12 champ, that might say more about the relative strength of the conferences than a P12 contender beating the champ.

But there's still a lot of football to be played, so best that P12 wins as many OOC games as possible to cover any scenarios.

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - 82 Card - 09-17-2016

Utah is not exactly lighting up San Jose State. They are up 20-10 in the 3d. Of course, Stanford used to have fits with San Jose some years and Utah is playing on the road.

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - jacketree - 09-17-2016

They've played nearly 3 minutes of the second half in Berkeley with no scoring, so I think the O/U just cracks 100.  Horns just missed a field goal.

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - BostonCard - 09-17-2016

They actually made it through an entire quarter where neither team scored.  Texas breaks the second half shutout with a TD to retake the lead with 13 min in the fourth.

BYU scored on UCLA and is now down 17-7.

BYU scores and closes to 17-14, but UCLA gets the onside kick, game UCLA.

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - CompSci87 - 09-17-2016

Kal game continues to be entertaining as they score quickly to go up 50-43 on Texas.

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - CompSci87 - 09-17-2016

Kal running back goes 55 yards to ice the game...but looks like he dropped the ball before crossing the goal line. Play is under review. Weenies!

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - CompSci87 - 09-17-2016

Kal given the ball at the 1 because the play was blown dead (?), even though Texas picked up the ball. They run out the clock and win.

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - 82 Card - 09-17-2016

So both UC schools managed to escape without embarrassing the league.

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - BostonCard - 09-17-2016

I'd be pissed if I were Texas, since a Texas player picked the ball up in the end zone.  Dumb-a** Enwere honestly should have taken a knee at the 1, as Texas couldn't stop the clock.  Turns out he tries to score, but celebrates early and drops the ball at the 1.  The refs ruled the play dead, so they gave Cal the ball at the one.  That bonehead play actually left Cal in a better position.

Notre Dame is now 1-2 with a loss to a team that lost to Cal.  I'm sure Wilner will find a way to rank them, though.

Thanks Enwere for messing up my mid-thread O/U prediction. What a gibrone.

Texas guy grabbed the ball pretty quick. Think replay booth pulled that one out of their ass.  Ursines are entertaining, but they can't win anything meaningful with that brand of football.

Amazing...?  ???

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - Mick - 09-18-2016

I just like the sound of it:

"California beats Texas."

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - fullmetal - 09-18-2016

That Texas QB is the son of a Stanford baseball alum...he's also a true frosh, and it showed a bit all over the place this game.  Sigh.  And the refs definitely didn't help, with an incorrectly-ruled catch inbounds and the dropped ball (is that contagious, this DeSean Jackson butterfinger TD technique?)...

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - stupac2 - 09-18-2016

I didn't see the play, but the refs who are active on /r/cfb say it was correctly ruled. Apparently the Texas player didn't jump on the ball immediately, just sort of strolled over and picked it up, and because the field refs ruled TD the play was dead, so you can't award possession without the immediate action thingy. Sounds kind of like the McCaffrey fumble against WSU last year where the unwashed hoards think it was wrong but it was actually the correct ruling.

Did you mean "jabroni"?

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - OutsiderFan - 09-18-2016

If you are relying on a missed call of a guy running in for a TD, 10 yards behind the defense, and dropping the ball before he scores, on a play you had to stop the opposing offense form converting 3rd and 1, or you lose the game, I have no sympathy for you.  Kind of like I didn't have any for Oklahoma State allowing the hail mary off the miscalled intentional grounding vs. CMU.

Re: Looking ahead to Week 3 games - needle - 09-18-2016

I was rooting for Kal to lose in a novel and embarrassing fashion, so I was disappointed that the refs did not award Texas the ball.

Kyle Bonagura got an explanation from the official after the game:

Quote:  There wasn't an inadvertent whistle. The ruling on the field was a touchdown, which replay determined that there was a fumble at the 1-yard line. The ball rolled into the end zone, came to rest, Cal players ran past it and many Texas players ran past it. I think it was 14 [Texas DB Dylan Haines] that picked up the ball and handed the ball to the official. Replay determined that there was no immediate recovery and that is replay's sole responsibility. We ruled touchdown. He has video evidence that the ball was fumbled short of the goal line. Once he determines there was no immediate recovery, by rule, the ball is returned to the team last in possession at the spot of the fumble, which is the 1-yard line.
