Last I heard, we are looking for 3 OTs and 1 OG in this class.

Things with Farniok are not favorable. When we do not hear a peep from a prospect in recruitment videos concerning Stanford while holding an offer, it usually doesn't turn out well for us.

I like the Luke Wattenberg angle. There was a lot of optimism surrounding this prospect earlier in the year but I am guessing that since we did not offer him, he took the Washington offer and ran with it. Perhaps we can flip him?

The other option is offering a kid from the Stanford camp who showed incredible potential. Follow Rivals for more info...

Kinda off topic, I do find it interesting that Bloomgren and John Raridon (top OG prospect from Iowa) recently started following each other on twitter, but I think Nebraska is where his commitment will stay.

Re: Class of 2016 - OutsiderFan - 06-24-2015

Hmm, I thought Hulk was bullish on Hamilton to Stanford.  Perhaps Michigan offered him as a DL, and that's his preference?

For every other school, it's not over until LOI day, but with Stanford you pretty much know there is no shot if the recruit isn't bothering with two AP courses his Senior year.  That in mind, is Hamilton gone gone.  Or is there still a shot if Stanford stays on him and things go south with Michigan for whatever reason?

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-24-2015

Yes, Hulk was optimistic on Hamilton in recent posts.  Nevertheless, I buy into Hulk's prior prediction (earlier in the cycle) that it would be difficult to land OL recruits from 2,000-3,000 miles away.  We got Yarbrough and should be very happy with that.  I am thinking that the rest will be from the western region.  Rivals' database shows 22 OLs from the western region who are listed at 6'5" or taller and who are rated at least 3-stars.  11 of those guys are already committed elsewhere.  Of the 11 remaining, 5 are junior college students, which generally means they are not in Stanford's pool.  The 6 uncommitted high school OL in the western region who are rated at least 3 stars and stand at least 6'5" are: Henry Hattis, Thayne Jackson, Alex Akingbulu, Francisco Perez, Bryson Cain, and Logan Bathke.  It would be great if Wattenberg flips or another elite OT recruit decides to come across the country to attend Stanford, but I'm predicting that Stanford will end up signing at least 1 of those 6 guys.

Henry Hattis

I don't think a position switch is the issue.  Hamilton talked about Michigan being a great public school and the credentials of the coaching staff, including the OC Coach, Tim Drevno. Drevno also has a background as an OL coach, but I'm not sure if he is filling both positions at Michigan. No talk of position change (See article below)

Harbaugh can be a pretty charismatic recruiter, and he has a coaching staff with lots of NFL experience, and those things are going to appeal to a number of prospects, particularly when combined with a school where you can get a good education if you want it.  Its a similar combination that have made UCLA a recruiting power since Jim Mora took over a few years ago. (Rivals team recruiting ranking: 2015, #13; 2014, #18; 2013, #8; 2012, #13) Good news, of course, Stanford was ranked higher than UCLA in two of those seasons: 2012 (#5) and 2014 (#14).  But the overall point remains: Harbaugh/Michigan are going to win some of these recruiting battles, even when the student flies out to Stanford and gets the full experience.  But, we will win our share, and then some.

Farniok hasn't said much of anything, but he did fly out to visit, didn't he?  I won't expect much, but maybe he is just a kid who likes to play his cards close to his vest.  I'm not behind any paywalls, so I may very well be missing a lot of info, but I also haven't heard that he has been talking up any other program, either.

The fact that Michigan just offered Farniok a few days before Hamilton committed makes me wonder if the offer to Farniok was a way of pressuring Hamilton to make a decision.  And if Hamilton took that spot, does that improve our shot (if we have one) with Farniok.  We're all circling the same prospects, I think it remains to see how this all works out before NSD

This is a link to video of the 1-on-1 OL/DL drills at the Oakland Nike camp:

It includes interesting clips of Farniok, Hattis, Perez, and Jackson.

Mike Williams and Henry Hattis dominated their opponents in this video!

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-24-2015

My sentiments exactly. I was hoping to see more from Farniok given his high rating.

Re: Class of 2016 - Hank 91 - 06-24-2015

Drukarev reported that he wasn't the only one surprised that Hamilton chose Michigan. He said he contacted another Stanford recruit who said, "That was surprising." Also, he hinted that Nate Herbig could commit tomorrow.

Re: Class of 2016 - OutsiderFan - 06-25-2015

Is an offer in the offing for Hattis?  He looked like a great athlete in that video.

It looks like Nate Herbig will commit tonight at 6 PM Hawaii-Aleutian Time. I believe that's 9 PM in Palo Alto.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-25-2015

Results from the most recent SAT exam come out today.  The next exam isn't offered until October.  For those recruits who want to be comfortable with their score prior to committing, today is a big day.  If things turn out well, we could see a couple of commitments from kids in the group who appear to have Stanford in the lead (Simms, Fehoko, Butler, Stewart, Long, and Williams).  I wouldn't be surprised if Herbig wanted to see his results before committing too.

In fact SAT scores were available late last night (I know my daughter was up late to check hers out online). So I hope TrumpCard is right and we have lots of exciting news today!  8)

JJJ--I hope your daughter was happy with her score.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-25-2015

Most other twitter commentary suggests UDFG, PSU, and OSU are the top 3, but this is still encouraging:

Thank you, she was reasonably pleased with her score, although there is room for improvement (but that is always the case unless you score 2400!).

Streaming the 6 o'clock news now. Sports usually comes on later, but I don't know if this qualifies as something that is worth showing earlier.

Lead story on KHON2 News is the extreme drought in parts of Hawaii. Did not know that.
