Quote:It's always been weak sauce to me when kids previously committed to Stanford all of a sudden claim they lost interest in Stanford, when the reality is they were admissions casualties. Just man up and say "I wasn't able to get in." It's even OK to add "I disagree with the decision and will use this as motivation wherever I do attend, and throughout my career." One can also say "It wasn't meant to be."
I agree with the sentiment, but I don't think kids should feel any need to discuss their academic shortcomings in public. All I ask is that they don't have a sour grapes reaction to their admissions feedback (or any reason for decommitting, quite frankly). Just move on and say you're really happy with your new choice of school.

It's good to be able to pontificate on how others should respond to not being let into the club, and on their fully developed, 17-year old character.

It's nice to see 17 year olds who can handle admission denials with grace and not sour grapes, but perhaps we shouldn't be too "judgmental" when they can't.

Two prospects, OLB Jordan Fox and QB Brandon Wimbush, are playing on ESPNU right now against Bergen Catholic.

Kirk Tucker. To this day I keep hoping he will be able to transfer to Stanford someday.Â

Second that. I'm also a big Tucker fan.

The Rex Manu "saga" reminds me why I don't follow recruiting closely. There simply isn't enough information to really know for sure what's going on, but that doesn't stop people from speaking as if they 100 percent know what's going on in the minds of 18 year olds.
For the record, "Rex Manu said he will be calling Stanford to apologize for making comments that may be deemed as negative toward the program," according to the reporter who wrote the story.
I wish Manu well in all his future endeavors except for maybe on a few upcoming Saturdays.

Good for Manu. We all say things we regret in the heat of the moment, but good for Manu for recognizing it and making it right.

Well unfortunately, that seems to confirm what we've heard about Canton, and that's that Stanford's chances of landing him don't look very good now.
I won't speculate that the problem is academics, since that seems to bother people, but others have.
Let me just say that I've followed recruiting for some time and if people are speaking as though they are 100% certain of what is going on in a recruit's mind I've missed it. We all realize it is just speculation, and mostly harmless speculation.

We need to foster a better island connection. I think Stanford needs to finance a select committee of CardBoarders to travel to the islands for this purpose. Any volunteers? 8)

As someone who grew up in Hawaii and went to Stanford, Hawaii knows where Stanford is. We are going to get the kids with the grades.

Nice for Christian Wilkins to be in the house to see a shutout. Can't think of a higher priority recruit in the class of 2015 for David Shaw.

Love this comment, doesn't matter how many stars you come in with but how many you leave with.

Minor detail... Zach Ertz was not a 3* recruit. He was the #4 ranked tight end (in a tight end class that also included Levine Toilolo, Jordan Najvar, and Ryan Hewiitt).
Some other 3* recruits: Jarek Lancaster and Drew Terrell. BTW, on Gardner, he was a 2* in the final rankings, but was unranked when we picked him up. I think Scout automatically gives 2* to anyone who signs an LOI with a major team.

True, but I do think there is a correlation between the two. Not a perfect one, but one nevertheless.
Having said that, I think the Harbaugh/Shaw regime has done a very good job of taking non-heralded recruits and turning them into excellent college football players.

Why is it assumed that just because Mike Farrell or Tom Luginbil doesn't rank a player high that he isn't an excellent recruit? Toby Gerhart checked every single possibly box of a 5 star RB recruit but was rated a 3 star fullback. Stars are based on hype nothing more, nothing less.
