Not sure what to think after watching UCLA/USC. UCLA was slightly better for most of the game but USC hung around. Watkins really struggled. This was the worst I've seen her play and she still scored 27 but on a lot of shot attempts. USC just plays so much 1x1 and attempt to find the mismatch on offense. It works in stretches and other times, everything is just so stagnant. They chose not to double Betts.
Neither team looks like a juggernaut. No way UCLA is going undefeated in conference.

The USC UCLA game was instructive. UCLA looked to me like the better team, but Juju Watkins is a unique and unstoppable force. I got the feeling that USC became too reliant on her, though. Hard to believe she is a freshman. She moves around the basket as well as our Jones did, and she shoots the three as well as Jump does. My guess is that she won't stay 4 years.
The real revelation to me about USC was McKenzie Forbes, the Harvard transfer who leads USC in scoring. She has a very smooth move slashing to the basket.
Betts looked much better defensively than she did with us, and was more athletic. I think she probably got in better shape for this season. 6 blocks for her. She was always paired with another super sized post, like Dugalic, making the high/low passing interesting.
But with all the hoopla about UCLA's posts, I think their strength are the guards. Osborne and Jones and Rice are three superstars. Jones going 5/8 from three point range will do for UCLA and Betts what Lepolo did for us yesterday.

Jones impressed the heck out of me. She was the only one on the floor who didn't seem flustered at all during the game.

It's really frustrating for me to read about all of these players you've highlighted and know that virtually all of them had Stanford under consideration (and in Betts' case, on the roster). I know there's nothing that can be done now, but I can't help but think about what could have been.
Instead of wishing for some more consistency or more development from some of our current players, in an alternate universe, it could have been Juju Watkins spreading the floor for our offense. Considering how well Brink and Kiki have done this season given the opposing team's focus on them, imagine how much more room they would have to operate with if defenses had to also account for a superstar like Juju too.

And Juju WATKINS, although she missed a ton today, is definitely 1st team All-American
even as a freshman. Along with Notre Dame's Hannah HIDALGO, South Carolina's Milaysia FULWILEY,
Arkansas' Taliah SCOTT, LSU's Mikalya WILLIAMS, etc, the top freshman guards in the nation
are simply outstanding.

Osborne is excellent defensive player, very important to UCLa, but IMHO not a superstar. She is a "volume" shooter, not a great shooter. She was 4/15 yesterday, Rice 4/14; between them 1 of 8 on 3s.
Well, may have to bite my tongue - she does have good 3 pt pct .438. Leads the team

I think UCLA has great guard play and a solid center, but they are lacking in the SF and PF spots, well at least for a team that has it's eyes on a National Championship. Jones, Rice and Osborne are solid perimeter players, but I'm not sure any of them have that killer instinct, perhaps Osborne. Rice has been steady, but definitely has flaws in her shooting and finishing. Jones, while she had a great game last night, if you watched her against Ohio State, she was awful - horrible shot selection in that at key moments too. Betts is a total difference maker, but if she gets in foul trouble, there isn't much there in the way of post play. Both Jones and Osborne are undersized for their positions at 5'5 an 5'9.
What I am saying, is I am pulling for them to go as deep as they can, but with such a balanced crew and outside of Betts, no real imposing mismatches against top teams, it wouldn't shock me if they were upset prone in the tournament.

Is it just me, or do both teams look terrible? I think we can handle both with ease. Oregon is offensively challenged to say the least. OSU has played a cupcake schedule and has no noteworthy wins despite being undefeated. Will see how they both do next weekend at the LA schools.

Wos, is the Pac-12 tough, and going to be. Colorado just beat a supposedly weak Arizona by 2, and Oregon State almost took down USC at USC.

In the USC-Oregon State game, Juju Watkins took 33 of the Trojans' 68 shots. She made 11. She also had 5 blocks and 6 rebounds and a single assist.

I would guess all charter flights next year and rightly so as Tara mentions. Surprising that we even fly commercial at all now. Many programs do only charter. Our nonconference schedule intrigues me for next year. How regional we stay and what current Pac12 programs we try to schedule if any.

We can probably put together a very strong non conference schedule by scheduling some of our nearby (former) Pac 12 teams. I would guess that UCLA and USC will be priorities, but also other former Pac 12 schools in regions in which we regularly recruit. It could make our out-of-conference schedule very tough. But the states of Oregon and Colorado and Washington have been fertile recruiting grounds for us, for example. There won't be a lot of room to schedule Connecticut or South Carolina--or even Indiana.

Anyone have any luck buying a yearbook? I’ve tried the last few games and nothing.. I got here early and they said they already sold out today. Anyone know where else I might have luck finding it?

Tara is at 1200 wins. Krzyzewski had 1202. (Geno is 8 behind Tara) There are two road games next. Potentially, she could be come the all-time winningest coach on Jan 19 against Oregon at home, or maybe Jan 20 vs Oregon State.
It seems likely she will do it on the PAC-12 networks as our next 6 games are on the PAC-12 networks. (It would require at best a 2-4 record if she does not hit 1203 in those 6 games. But, the PAC-12 is clearly the best WBB conference. It is a gauntlet.)
I'm really hoping she gets the record against Oregon, and ends the year at 1224-266.
Somebody bring a Stanford jacket to put around Tara so she doesn't have to be so cold after a congratulatory drenching. One of those parkas that the swim & water polo teams use?
