This may sound a bit hyperbolic, but McCaffery looks like a potential Voldemort trophy candidate.  If he can run, catch passes, and return kicks, on a good team and be as big a playmaker as it seems he will be, it seems quite possible.

Watching him run that perfect corner route, and how easily he caught that pass, made it clear he's an all-around great football player, who could be dominant as a runner, receiver, and kick returner.

It will be interesting to see what Shaw does with the offense next year, given how much he likes to pound the football and the fact that our best backs (Young, Sanders, and McCaffrey) aren't really pounders.

Of course, he could always play Joey Alfieri there, but then do you just let the above trio be spot players. I think they are too good for that.

Garrett Dickerson has apparently narrowed his choices to Stanford and Northwestern.

Seems like this is another Ifeadi Odenigbo story.  If he is admitted by Stanford, he is farm-bound.  If he doesn't get admitted he chooses another academically prestigious private school, rather than Michigan or Ohio State.

Not sure we have seen enough of him to really judge one way or another.

Hopefully he will be the guy we're looking for next year.

Considering his amazing athleticism and balance, it is scary to think he will add 10-20 pounds of muscle to his frame once he has one off-season with Turley.

Uriah Leiataua, an OLB from Richard Sherman's high school, has been offered by SC and UCLA recently. Leiataua has a very good offer list for an under-the-radar player: SC, UCLA, Wisconsin, Utah. (and, of course, us.)

Terrence Alexander is listed at 5-10.  That looks dubious to me.  Based on the highlight video, he looks closer to 5-8.  He does appear to have good ball skills, but seems to lack the size Stanford prefers at CB.  That said, Alexander looks like a superior kick returner and someone who could be another TJ Rushing-type.  Maybe he plays some nickel and dime, but is primarily a kick returner and special teamer.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

This worries me. I am still holding out hope that the coaches are going to put out an offer to a late bloomer. It makes sense that we would considering we had an offer out to Downs.

Rivals story on Okereke...

Got to give U.S.C. credit for honesty.  They are telling Okereke a Southern Cal degree is as valuable as a Stanford degree in SoCal.  While that is debatable, at least they aren't claiming a Southern Cal degree is as powerful globally as I believe they used to say in years past.

But I don't think it's purely the degree itself that puts Stanford academics over the top of Southern Cal's for undergrads.  It seems to me it's the environment and the priority placed on academic pursuits that sets Stanford apart. 

Anyway, it sucks losing to U.S.C. on the field, but it's almost worse losing to them in recruiting because there are so few guys Stanford can admit that U.S.C. will offer.  So hopefully if/when Okereke and Jordan Perez are admitted they tell U.S.C. they are solid to Stanford.  It would really suck to lose to U.S.C. more than once between November and February's signing day.  Maybe Stanford coaches can get Kyle Murphy, Josh Garnett, Aziz Shittu, Noor Davis, or Andrus Peat who chose Stanford over U.S.C., to talk some sense into these recruits choosing between those two schools.

Certainly.  That doesn't exonerate concern that it could happen.  Look no further than Anthony Sarao, a former Stanford commit (and admit as far as I know who de-committed when Harbs left), who actually led U.S.C. in tackles Saturday.  Sure would have been helpful to Stanford if he had been wearing a Stanford uniform that night.

Sure, there should be concern. I think there also should be concern if we are recruiting kids from the LA area that U$C doesn't think are good enough to want to poach.

Doesn't sound like he is interested.  Only U.S.C. has the hubris to tell a recruit their school is as good as Stanford academically and athletically, so they still think they can get anyone they want.  It's not going to work on Stanford recruits very often.  As much as I hate all things Southern Cal, I do have to admire their relentlessness going after what they covet.
