maxpreps has Mills with 5 TD throws and 1 rushing TD.  I didn't see any INTs in its "play by play."

I did say "almost meaningless", not "meaningless".

Browning is not an outlier at all. This season is not even over and there are players such as Nick Gerber (73 TD / 4 Int), Alex Huston (76/12), JT Daniels (63/2), Grant Gunnell (63/9) and many others with video game numbers. A few are top recruits; the vast majority are not.

Perhaps it's better to say that high school statistics are almost meaningless absent major adjustments based on state, division, team strength, etc.

None of those players have numbers like Browning.

The truth is stats absolutely matter they just need to weighted against the level of competition and the level of supporting cast(relative to the competition). The same context you would give stats in college or NFL apply to HS it just takes more work.

For example the QB committed to Clemson who most sites have ranked ahead of Mills has inferior numbers, plays worse comp and with better teammates(relative to the comp). Its a pretty good indicator who's better

Hunter Johnson (now committed to Clempson, previously committed to Tennessee)?

he camped with Stanford.  I recall Andy Druk's reports, and Andy was high on him.  no offer though.

Gerber has 73 TD and 4 interceptions with games remaining this season, can't say that none has numbers similar to Browning.

We are saying the same thing about the need for context, but high school requires a dramatically larger adjustment as compared to college or NFL obviously, to the point where evaluators don't put much weight on raw numbers.

Hunter Johnson's case (and the other top QB recruits this season) proves my point; college recruiters are not driven by raw numbers in making their evaluations.

Anyone want to provide an update on the outlook for the 2017 class? 

I feel a lot less informed about where things are at and who the potential candidates might be than I was last year at this time.  Sure, the class looks like it will be on the small side, and there have been a few blurbs about specific recruits, but it just doesn't seem there has been as much big picture discussion about the class as usual.

Has recruiting momentum slowed down?  Are the top targets still in play?  I have always held out some hope that Jaelen Phillips might flip to Stanford from UCLA (maybe the 4-8 flameout of a season helps that cause), but I have really no sense of the chances of that now.

Yeah, I think he chose UCLA over Stanford because of family ties. So UCLA's lousy season probably hasn't affected his decision.
