Very Intersting about Hodson. Thanks for the update
I thought one concussion at Stanford. Two with the National team before Stanford.

Her case was finally scheduled to go to a jury trial last week. I just checked on it and found that a settlement was reached last week between Hodson and Stanford.
Over five and a half years, literally hundred of motions and documents filed with the Santa Clara County Superior Civil Court and now they decide to settle. If both sides had settled back in 2018 they could have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees and put that into the settlement
I have no idea about the settlement. I had read Hodson and her parents were asking for a boatload of money.
I know next to nothing about the case other than that some of Hodson's public-facing statements struck me as somewhat ungracious. That said, eve-of-trial settlements are *very* common: often courts don't rule motions in limine (who and what can appear / be argued at trial) until just before trial begins, and how a court rules on those decisions affects the strength of each side's case, and therefore what they're willing to settle for. Not sure if this happened in this case, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it did.

I think Stanford is ranked right where it should be. Fact of the matter is... they have the players to beat anyone in the country... but they also have the ability to lose to anyone as well... and badly. Fact of the matter that all three losses were straight set losses is not a good look, imho. Stanford has trouble with consistency and we very well could win it all in December... or we could come away with a crushing loss before the Final Four. Nothing is a gimme with this team (unfortunately).

Some ESPN volleyball analysis. Can't say I disagree much at all with what was mentioned about Stanford.

Good find Card10Fan. I agree with Paul Sunderland when asked who makes it to the final four.
"Sunderland: Tough one but here you go. Stanford has the best collection of wins in the country, but unless the Cardinal find a way to get more production out their middles, they will be vulnerable as the tournament unfolds."
Stanford's inconsistency was magnified last weekend. But a fundamental problem is the need for more offense coming out of the middle. As good as the pin players are, they struggle against double blocks from strong blockers. The pins need much more offense from the middle to keep the opposing middles guessing where to block.

I could not agree more on our use of MBers. When our middles only get 3-4 attempts/set, opponents will double up on our pins which makes it tougher for our big 3. It also makes it difficult for them to get a rhythm. I'd like to see MBers should get both more attempts and hit over .400 consistently.
Francis was doing great offensively before she got hurt and it doesn't seem the timing and rhythm is back with her and Miner. They've mostly been using her on the slide which is fine, but she is even better when it's a well timed quick set in the middle. Francis needs to return to her pre injury form for us to make the Final Four. Vincini is better on the quick set in the middle than on the slide, and has been quite effective at times.

Is Stanford's problem of not using the MBs effectively a knock on the setter, or the passing, or the MBs? Or maybe a credit to the defense, or maybe a coach's decision?
In the 3-set loss (which I didn't see), Vicini only had 4 attacks while the team had a total of 107. She's not going to have much chance to do well with only 4 attempts. Francis had 14.
The attack chances were given equally to Kipp, Baird, and Rubin with Francis getting half as many as them.

I'd really love to see the quick set in the middle used more often. When used effectively, it really messes with the Defense's head, and leads to freeing up the pins to get more kills.

Agree. Been thinking this for a while.

Another slow start. Let’s see if they can continue the momentum they had toward the end of the first set.

Well #3 Lousiville lost tonight at GT in 4 sets and we beat #9 Washington State in four sets.
Nebraska also needed five sets to beat Penn State. 15-13 in the fifth set.

Is no one going to comment on the 3-1 win over WSU? Sammi Francis with 12 kills to 2 errors answers our call for better play from the middle.

I asked at the chalk talk about next year's schedule, and Coach Hambly provided some details about how it is shaping up:
20 ACC matches; one each vs. the other 17 schools; an extra match with the travel partner (Cal); and two more based on this season's RPI. (The conference will be divided into three tiers based on RPI). E.g., could be Louisville and Georgia Tech.
Five weekends back east. (If they are back-to-back weekends, may stay in the East.)
Non-conference may be a lot of road matches. Starting with Wisconsin and Minnesota. (Playing at home is expensive, since you pay to bring teams in, and it's not clear what the budget will allow.)
There were follow-up questions about recruiting, and Hambly seemed to indicate the conference change was not hurting Stanford (Stanford being Stanford). I think he said he got five commitments during the period of turmoil (from collapse of Pac-12 to joining ACC).

Excellent thanks John. I missed one point you cleared that up.
Yes on the 5 commits. 2024 and 25
