Is Henry Roberts the other likely OT commit?

So, in Eubanks tweet, if Dreyer's commitment is the future (#cardclass15), what are the past (#StanfordNFL) and the present (#gostanford) that make it a "Helluva a day for the Cardinal?"

no and they aren't likely to take another o-line commit. Dreyer was the plan B behind Roberts.

In that video, is it just me or does it look like Dreyer jumps early in all his reps

Because they offered him later, and because he is ranked "lower," doesn't mean necessarily that Dreyer is plan "B." They obviously like him in camp and, then, offered. Sometimes something equal or better comes along

In man-on-man line reps the offensive player "knows" the snap count and the defensive player is suppose to react to the offensive players movement simulating in-game situations, so every offensive player should seem early.

Thanks for this.  Most of the other ones looked like the players were starting at the same time.  I was watching without sound and just assumed a whistle started it.

I understand that. I was just pointing out that they haven't said they would take more than 3 for the o-line in this class. And they didn't even offer Dreyer at the camp or right after. They waited a few weeks. Seems related to Roberts' pending announcement. I do think he's going to be a good player so I don't consider him a Plan B type. I just meant he was Plan B at OT because Stanford isn't likely to take more than one.

Re: Class of 2015 - TrumpCard - 08-14-2014

With the 2015 class about half full, I wanted to take stock of Stanford's remaining needs.
The current class is: 3 OL, 2 LB, 1 WR, 1 S, 1 K, 1 FB, 1 NT.
It seems to me that Stanford needs something like 2 WRs, 1 RB, 3 DBs, 2 DLs, and 1 LB.
Here are the current reported offers at those positions, listing only those players who haven't eliminated Stanford:
WR: Irwin and St. Brown (One of these elite guys would be fine, and maybe we see a Plan B emerge for the 2nd spot.)
RB: Warren, Scarlett, and Love (Good shape.)
DB: Marshall, Buncom, Edwards, Meeks, and Rookard.  (I question whether the Rookard offer is real, but Shaw is still in good shape.)
DL: Wilkins, Green, Kaumatule, and Donnelly.  (Any two of these would be great, but I am nervous that Stanford won't get that.)
LB: Jefferson, Gustin, and Reid.  (None of these guys seems particularly likely, so maybe Warren can play LB if Shaw gets 2 RBs.)

Overall, Stanford looks to be in pretty good shape, assuming Shaw continues his historical record of landing a high percentage of the guys he recruits.  However, the report that Kaumatule is not an option really hurt.  A commitment from Rasheem Green would be giant.  And it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility.  He has a 3.5 GPA and is reportedly taking an official visit.  We will probably have to wait until the bitter end, but if he commits, it will have been worth the wait.

At WR, we also stand a good chance of flipping Alex Stump from Kentucky. We should be fine at RB and DB. I think we definitely get Donnelly but could strike out on the rest of the DL. Maybe Russell Ude eventually gets an offer. At LB, I don't think we stand a chance for Jefferson or Gustin, but we could well get Reid. Not sure who's the backup plan there, or if we really need one considering we already have two LBs this class (as Folau is going on his mission but Sean Barton is coming back from one), and we took four LBs last year.

Re: Class of 2015 - TrumpCard - 08-14-2014

This just shows the difficulty of recruiting a great college football team.  Shaw could easily land 8 (or more) consensus four-star players this year and still be subject to valid criticism if he leaves a big hole on the DL.

However, at least for now, I remain optimistic that Stanford will land a top notch DL, whether it be Green, Wilkins, Kaumatule, or someone not on our radar.  Aside from the usual arguments for Stanford, Randy Hart is a great, proven position coach who is unlikely to leave anytime soon.  Any academically qualified DL recruit would be crazy not to seriously explore the possibility of attending Stanford.

the academically elite - TrumpCard - 08-18-2014

Equanimeous St. Brown appears to be an academically elite student-athlete.  He reports a 4.0 GPA and is quadralingual.  I have to think Stanford is a great fit for him.  Yet the 247 predictions have him joining Tristen Hoge (another academically elite recruit) at the university of cheaters in bumble Indiana.  What gives?

Re: Class of 2015 - Spiny_Norman - 08-18-2014

Eric Sondheimer (the LA Times HS sports writer) on Trent Irwin after seeing him this summer.

Quote: Trent Irwin can catch: In winning the Edison passing tournament that was stacked with top teams, Newhall Hart showed off Irwin, a receiver who has been starting since he was a freshman. He rarely drops passes, always runs precision routes, and he and quarterback Brady White have that "sixth sense" between them. He has college offers from Stanford, Arizona State and UCLA.

All of the predictors at 247 have to give their opinion on hundreds of fickle high school kids they have never met. Sometimes these "experts" have valid information. Sometimes they don't. But, they have to give their opinion. They don't have a lot of time. And, when they are wrong, no one cares.

Re: Class of 2015 - BobK - 08-18-2014

What gives?  Hoge will enter ND in Feburary.

the dad was at a camp a few months ago and the rumor was he was talking up Notre Dame the entire time. But the rumor I heard last week was now they think it is too far from home and they are leaning towards Stanford and USC. So really hard to say what is true and what isn't.

I thought I read that the dad was pushing Notre Dame while the mother was pushing Stanford?

Re: Class of 2015 - TrumpCard - 08-18-2014

I get that Hoge is not changing his commitment.  He's from small town Idaho.  Even though he's closer in distance to Stanford, he'd probably suffer a lot more culture shock in Palo Alto than in South Bend.

I have no inside info on St. Brown, but I tend to believe the theory that the St. Browns have decided to focus on the California schools.  I just cannot see an academic high-achiever from the O.C. foregoing a Stanford offer and instead choosing to attend college in bumble Indiana with a bunch of cheaters.  USC maybe, but not University of Bumble Indiana.Â
