Schultz to Utah would be surprising. Always instructive to see what is going on vis-a-vis application status before drawing conclusions on these things with Stanford recruits.

I have no idea who that guy is. He just notes that someone close to Utah Recruiting told him. If this is true, that will be a big loss for our 2014 class. Shultz is the top TE recruit in the nation and would fill a key need.

I may have spoken too soon. Lombardi from Scout is saying it isn't for sure and another insider posted on Rivals saying this rumor is probably false.

Somebody on the Bootboard posted that no good would come of Jesuit having Joey pack the ball as much as they were.
I thought he was being a Nervous Nellie but I guess he was right. Jesuit was up 30-0 when the injury occurred.
Hopefully it won't require surgery. I wonder if it will solidify Joey's preference for defense in college.
P.S. If you need some good news Keller Chryst threw for 4TD's last night, albeit against some not-so-great competition.
Also, for the "why haven't we offered Josh Rosen yet?" crowd.

Damn I was really starting to think Alfieri would play RB for us next year. I really hope the coaches are looking at another Rb for this class

With McCaffery and Brandt-Sims already in this class, I doubt it. Not even a sure thing at all that Alfieri was going to play RB here. HS stats can be pretty deceiving,min any case, when predicting success at the D-1 college level. Anthony Wilkerson dominated his league in HS, but is a lot less productive at Stanford (on a side note: I'm hoping Shaw and the coaches just slot BSJ into the spot right behind Gaffney; at least when Gaffney comes out we can put someone on the field who,has lashed the ability to make tacklers miss and break big plays).
If the coaches agree with you, then maybe it just takes a year of learning the offense, and rehabbing the knee.

Agree with everything you said(except I think Sims will be a WR) but I am really worried about the position for next year. The biggest back on the roster is going to be who... Remound Wright? That just doesn't sound good to me.

People, the offensive line is what we need to worry about with this class. David Bright is the only lineman enrolled from last year's glass, and right now the only commit is Austin Hall. Seems to me that Casey Tucker is the key remaining recruit.

Thomas Oser was also a 2013 guy. Brandon Fanaika, a Mormon missionary from 2012, will be returning next year. Jesse Burkett and Casey Tucker are the outstanding offensive line recruits. Allegedly we're doing well for Tucker; not sure where we stand with Burkett, a Vandy commit.

OL shouldn't be a concern the #s are in order. We took 6 in 2012, Bright and Oser last year. Fanaika, Hall and one more this year we'll take 4 or 5 in the 2015 class. Going in to next year with Remound Wright as the most powerful RB on the roster is a MAJOR concern

I wouldn't say RB is a major concern. Wright and McCaffrey are Stepfan-sized.
NT is far and away the most major concern for 2015. We need some sort of running back in 2015, and it would be nice if it were a big back, but I'm not stressing over it.

Stepfan was unique a small guy who ran with the power of a guy much bigger, highly doubt Wright or McCaffery have the same ability.

Wright's gotten several snaps in the past two years as a short yardage back -- that's part of the reason his career YPC is so low. So if they think Wright doesn't have power, they have a funny way of showing it.

According to this article, a team doctor says it's 90-95% chance that he won't need surgery. Alfieri is getting a MRI today.

Never heard of a knee injury actually being a broken bone with no knee ligament damage. Any doctors in the house who can comment or make sense of this?

It can happen. It's unclear exactly happened in the article, but it sounds like he either fractured the articular surface of his femur or fractured his femur right above the joint. It's less common then knee soft-tissue injuries, and is relatively rare to occur in isolation. Usually it happens in a higher energy impact (e.g. car accident) that also would cause knee soft tissue damage. I'm not an orthopedist so that's the best I can do for now.

The femur is the bone between the hip and knee. If his femur is fractured it is a stress fracture. A complete fracture is actually a very scary injury. The thigh muscles are very strong and broken bones are very sharp. When the femur completely fractures the muscles pull the bones segments together 4 to 6 inches. In the process the femoral artery is often severed and if not treated quickly the victim can bleed out. A fat embolism is another possible outcome that can kill someone. Bones protruding through skin is also common.
When my son was 13 his leg muscles split his knee cap in two while he was running. There was no nerve, ligament, muscle, artery, or tendon damage.
