Re: Class of 2015 - socalstanfan1 - 08-05-2014

Q: if we end up with both Edwards and Buncom, and they both end up rated as top 10 safeties, would this be the highest pair of DBs Stanford has ever admitted in a single recruiting cycle? I know we have brought in Lyons and Carter, both top 10 DBs, but in separate years.

I've heard rumors that we want Buncom as a CB,much as we moved Carter and Lyons.  Anyone have info on that, if we should end up with Buncom?

Yeah supposedly he's being recruited as a CB. But Stanford recruits most DBs as DBs and plays them where they are needed. Lyons has played out of position since we had Reynolds and Richards. But he seems like a much better fit at safety. It's too bad we didn't get Peppers or Watkins in the last recruiting cycle. We'd probably have solved our FS conundrum.

Re: Class of 2015 - OutsiderFan - 08-06-2014

It's looking like Manu and Donelly are the the most likely DL in the 2015 class at this point.  Missing on Canton Kaumatule seems like a pretty major blow, but would be softened if Stanford can pull Wilkins and/or Green.  Is Stanford doing better with these guys than the "experts" think?

And what about other DL options?  Does Ude get an offer now?  Anyone else in the picture?

How do you know Kaumatule is no longer a prospect? All I have heard is vague unsubstantiated rumors.

Re: Class of 2015 - StannyBoy - 08-06-2014

Andy from Rivals has said Kaumatule is a long shot at this point. And if Green is taking 2 AP classes at his private school and planning on applying I would say we lead for him. I don't see Wilkins coming to Stanford though. It sounds like Penn State or Ohio State are most likely for him.

Re: Class of 2015 - washingtonismoney - 08-06-2014

Seems Folau's having problems with his test scores: http://stanford.247sports.com/Bolt/Folau-Remains-Committed-to-Stanford-30102207

Re: Class of 2015 - OutsiderFan - 08-06-2014

Didn't see this story from a week ago posted, but... Iman Marshall's dad speaks highly of Stanford:
https://stanford.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1664449

Some really good stuff in there.  Of course, we don't know if Marshall is taking 2 AP classes, how his test scores are, or if he's filling out a Stanford application...

Re: Class of 2015 - stan01 - 08-06-2014

Hm...

"@rivalsmike: Per 2015 QB Brandon Wimbush, #Stanford is no longer in play or a candidate for his services, he is all #PennState"

I'd ignore that for now. Seems more like a PR play to get everyone off his back.

Re: Class of 2015 - OutsiderFan - 08-06-2014

What reason does Wimbush have to mislead Penn State?  I may be gullible and naive, but he sure seems authentic in his denial of further interest in Stanford to me.

P.S. So it doesn't get lost in other topics, someone(s) please do offer thoughts on DL recruiting options per earlier post re: Kaumatule.

"Mom, James Franklin is calling me at 4 in the morning and saying we won't hang up until I re-commit."

"Mom, the Penn State fan on Twitter knows our home address???"

"Mom...who's that in the bushes over there?"

What WIM said. Plus ...

What information do you have to evaluate the level of authenticity in Wimbush's lack of interest in Stanford?
All from a tweet by somebody called rivalsmike?

rivalsmike is known as the godfather of college recruiting - Mike Farrell is one of the first involved in the business. When he says something about high profile recruits, recruitniks tend to listen. In this case I think Farrell is simply reporting what Wimbush told him but if you dig further, there are many reasons to think contrary to his tweet.

What Stannyboy and WIM said is spot on, but I would add the recruiting cycle for QBs is a bit more troublesome. Most schools only take one QB per cycle, so commitments happen earlier on average than any other position to ensure the QB ensure a slot at a choice program.

Wimbush's commitment to Penn State happened before he received a Stanford offer and probably under pressure from the Penn State staff. Once Stanford did offer, why should he risk losing his spot with a traditional football power if he is not certain that he would make it past Stanford's admission requirements? He took bridge classes in the summer that were necessary to enroll in AP classes and if he has two AP classes this coming semester, I would bet you my car it is because he intends to be Stanford's 2014 recruiting class QB.

Despite how I worded things, I was actually more wondering just how one could evaluate the authenticity of Wimbush's denial of Stanford interest based upon somebody else's tweet.
I was thinking there may have been an article somewhere with actual quotations from Wimbush or something similar.

I began by answering the second question before answering the first question :) Sorry about that. I have read a few stories that quote Wimbush reaffirming his commitment to Penn State. Here is one of them:

http://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/index.ssf/2014/07/qb_brandon_wimbush_opens_up_ab.html

He can say whatever he wants, but the actions he has taken academically point in our direction.

Re: Class of 2015 - Bruce Wang - 08-06-2014

If you see Wimbush recruiting other players to Penn St, Stanford is likely out of the running.  If he flies casual, as in keeps his distance but doesn't look like he's keeping his distance, then we've got a shot.

Re: Class of 2015 - OutsiderFan - 08-06-2014

Wimbush has been quoted as recruiting guys to PSU.  He says he is taking the extra courses to challenge himself, not to go to Stanford.  If someone has knowledge of him submitting a Stanford application, I'll be a bit more skeptical of his reaffirmation to PSU.  But Jameis Winston not only submitted an application but was admitted and chose Florida State, so even that is no slam dunk.

Based on his public statements Wimbush is no longer considering Stanford.  I'm taking the kid at his word until there is some evidence he is applying for Stanford admission.

Re: Class of 2015 - PrinceLightfoot - 08-12-2014

Looks like the third (and possibly final) OL slot for this cycle will be filled by this incredibly tall player, Jack Dreyer, who impressed at camp this summer. I hope he pulls the trigger and commits soon...tons of potential!

Quote:Stanford has offered San Mateo (Calif) Serra OL Jack Dreyer, don't be surprised if there's a quick decision here, been high on Cardinal

Eubanks tweeted something that suggests someone pulled the trigger and committed.
