True Frosh or Redshirt?  I know he plays both positions, but isn't he recruited as a LB?  What makes you think he will be better than Son of Ed? Or for that matter Son of Barry. With the amount of depth we have at RB nowadays combined with the complexity of the playbook, a frosh making an impact is a tall order.  I hope you are right because that means he is a stud.

True Freshman. Alfieri a different kind of runner 220+ lbs "powerback" than any that we have on the roster for next year. Obviously this can go out of the window if we end up recruiting another powerback in this class but unless I am mistaken their aren't any publicly on the board right now

Stanford has a new offer out for the 2014 class: defensive end Uriah Leiataua from Compton. Not sure if this is a plan B or if his performance on the field attracted Shaw and assistants. Anyone?

Went to the same school as Richard Sherman.  Is he really LDS?  That's pretty cool, I've never heard of a Mormon from Compton, but good for him.

But I hope you'll forgive a mostly non-partisan current affairs comment.

Garvin wrote a pretty good description of the sometimes overlooked war narratives at the museum.  The letter from the Marine describing reaching the beach by going through floating arms, legs, torsos and heads. More eloquent history than any scholar could write.

Query:  Do you think the current crop of politicians of all stripes who have this country tied in knots,  would be acting as they are if they'd had to fight on Tarawa or Omaha Beach, or Bastogne or Bataan?  There was something about that shared national experience and the effect it had on servicemen and all Americans that made them more practical and reasonable.  Not without differing ideas,  but not so immune to the common good as a value or a "given" in how we viewed our political differences.

How about a separate thread for this topic?  When we see a new post in the class o 2014, shouldn't that mean there is a new post about a recruit in the class of 2014?

This is just nostalgia talking. Somehow the WWII generation's practicality and reasonableness didn't stop Joe McCarthy, massive resistance to black civil rights or the Vietnam War (among other things.) They did great things, but let's not make them into supermen.
